A Stunned Sabrina Bryan Leaves Dancing

October 31, 2007

Ballroom dancing is known for its elegance and grace. But Tuesday night things turned ugly when Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan was eliminated from Dancing With the Stars. The shocking revelation — possibly the biggest upset in the show’s history — led to an outraged room full of loud booing and tears.

While Bryan and partner Mark Ballas tried to fight back their tears and remain positive, host Tom Bergeron shook his head in disbelief.

“I had you so pegged for the finale,” Bergeron said, embracing the young dancing duo who were regarded by fellow dancers, fans and judges as this season’s couple to beat.

Bryan assured PEOPLE minutes after the show that she will be fine.

“I had such an amazing time with Mark. I cannot imagine any experience being able to remotely compare to this,” the 23-year-old Bryan said. “I’m not bitter. I’ve made some great friendships here and I’ve had the best time. This was an amazing opportunity for me and I feel so lucky to have gone this far.”

Bryan remained upbeat, but others were not shy about expressing their disappointment. Wiping tears from her eyes, a somber Carrie Ann Inaba told PEOPLE, “This is an outrage and an upset. It’s so disappointing and heartbreaking, not to mention complete shock. How do you explain Sabrina leaving? She’s been at the top of the leader board from week one. Everyone assumed she’d be in the finale.”

“It’s a big shock and a big loss for the show,” pro dancer Anna Trebunskaya said, tears streaming down her face. “She was one of the best performers on the show ever. I think the show might suffer a little bit because the level of dancing will go down. It’s so sad that America didn’t vote for the best dancer. She was so clearly the best.”

“This is when you have to remember that the judges are only one aspect and people tuning in have to vote who they want to see in the finale,” Inaba said. “It is a competition and some days it does suck. Tonight it sucks.” —Monica Rizzo

What a shocker. She should be in the final. There are at least three people who aren’t as good a dancer as she is.

We was robbed. They were magic. I won’t be watching the rest of the show.

broken heart for Sabrina October 31st, 2007

Sabrina shouldn’t have been voted out. It’s so unfair…. She was our favorite. I’m still shocked. Every week we watch the show to c her dance. This was a big mistake… The show won’t be the same without her… We love you Sabrina!

AMERICA MADE A HUGE MISTAKE

Bobbi October 31st, 2007

Why do the judges and others assume that people didn’t vote for the ones they wanted to stay? Perhaps Sabrina’s fan base, which is most likely a younger fan base, just couldn’t overcome other voters voting for their choice. I don’t believe there was anything nefarious going on here. It was definitely a surprise, but most reality shows that depend on voting have a “shocking” departure at one time or another. Remember Chris Daughtry anyone? It is one of the things that make these shows such hits! Unpredictability is fun!

I can’t believe she was voted off.Maybe they have to rethink having the viewers vote and just have the judges do it.This is horrible,Marie should have left but she was not even in the bottom two.

Shocked October 31st, 2007

It’s quite obvious that the public clearly voted based off who the dancers are( and I’m referring to the celebrities) and not their capabilities. This is an outrage.

What were viewers thinking? Sabrina was the best dancer that I have ever seen on Dancing with the Stars. What a waste. I think the honorable thing to do would be for another dancer who knows that they are not that great to step down and bring Sabrina back. This was the biggest shocker i have ever seen what a loss.I think given the chance again the viewers would vote different

Mare October 31st, 2007

What happened?!!!!!! The judges should handle the voting from now on.Bring Sabrina back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
