Cheryl calls the shots with Drew, Marie’s tough week ahead and more…
It’s Strictly Ballroom: Cheryl Burke and her season two partner Drew Lachey will re-team for the third Dancing with the Stars tour, which kicks off December 18 in Seattle. Burke tells PEOPLE that she and Lachey “have a brother-sister, catty relationship. He fights me a little bit when we rehearse. He tries to give his input but I remind him that I’m the ballroom dancer and he’s the boybander. He needs to step down and listen.”
Heartfelt Sympathy: The ballroom lacked its usual sparkle Tuesday night because of Marie Osmond’s absence. Osmond was in Utah mourning her father, George Osmond. Osmond’s partner Jonathan Roberts received the news at the start of Tuesday’s show that they were safe for another week.
But things don’t get easier next week as the couples will again be required to perform two dances. “It’s going to be a rough week for her,” Roberts told PEOPLE, noting that Osmond will travel to Chicago with her brothers to tape an episode of Oprah highlighting the family’s fifty years in show business. Then, she’ll shift gears and focus on dancing. “Marie has been in a show family her whole life so I think she’s used to ‘the show must go on.’… I think it’s going to be the hardest week yet for her, but she did say to me that the dance will be good to get her mind off everything with her dad.”
That’s Fly: The ten-member Rock Steady Crew dance troupe performed a freestyle hip-hop routine during a pre-taped segment before the live telecast. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba, a former In Living Color Fly Girl, couldn’t sit still in her seat. And neither could judge Len Goodman, who, upon hearing the troupe did a second take. Goodman was then invited to join in by audience comedian Cory Almeida. “I want to join in. I can do it all!” Goodman exclaimed. —Monica Rizzo
