It’s down to the final five, meaning after tonight’s results show (9 p.m. ET, ABC), we’ll have our four semifinalists. Which of these celeb contenders won the chance to dance another week in last night’s week-eight performances?
• Jennie Garth and Derek Hough
1st dance —Jive: The 90210 star looked fabulous in a green, spangly (and skimpy!) dress, but we had to agree with the judges that she looked a bit stiff during the saucy number. Score: 24.
2nd—Fox Trot: We thought Garth was as elegant as Jane Seymour in the retro gown and graceful dance, and the judges largely agreed. Score: 26. Overall, unless the fans really weigh in with the votes, it might be the bottom two for the former Kelly Taylor.
• Cameron Mathison and Edyta Sliwinska
1st dance—Viennese Waltz: The judges loved the soap star’s graceful dance, which, accompanied by the Harry Potter movie theme, was indeed magical. Score: 27.
2nd dance—Cha Cha Cha: Yet again, the judges tell the All My Children star that he’s a powerful dancer, but not a graceful one. Score: 24.
• Marie Osmond and Jonathan Roberts
1st dance—Rumba: Coming off a very sad week with the loss of her father, Osmond failed to wow the judges. “I knew this was going to be a tough dance for you because it’s supposed to be a young couple . . .” said judge Len, who drew boos from the crowd. Score: 24.
2nd dance—Jive: Osmond got a “little bit country” with her take on the Jive, but the judges didn’t go for her kinda cheesy boot-scootin’ boogie. The score: 25.
• Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough
1st dance—Paso Doble: Indy 500 champ Castroneves and the female Hough sib incorporated a lot of cape work into their hot bullfighter-themed routine, which earned them a 27.
2nd dance—Quickstep: The duo won the only standing ovation and unanimous judges raves of the evening. Score: 30!
• Melanie Brown and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
1st dance—Tango: Despite the weirdness of ballroom dancing set to Depeche Mode, the Spice Girl and her pro partner drew praise for their “angry” dance. Score: 27.
2nd dance—Mambo: “Your hips are hypnotizing,” said Goodman of the hot, hot, hot number. Score: 29.
Who will be sent home tonight? It’s a tough call, especially after spectacular performances by Mel B. and Helio C. Who do you think will be in the bottom two? —Kimberly Potts
