Mark Ballas’s Dancing Emergency

November 28, 2007

Minutes after pro dancer Mark Ballas and Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan performed a high-energy cha-cha on the season five Dancing with the Stars season five finale Tuesday night, Ballas was taken by ambulance to nearby Cedars-Sinai Hospital to have his right shoulder examined.

“He dislocated his shoulder last night during rehearsals and he should not have been out there on the floor tonight,” judge Bruno Tonioli told PEOPLE. “But he is so committed to this show and he is such a professional he said ‘I am going to dance.’ He came out her and gave it his all and now he’s made it worse. I am devastated. That boy is one of the best dancers we’ve ever had. He’s a star. I am so worried. I just pray to God he’s okay.”

Bryan fidgeted in her seat during the telecast, upset that she couldn’t leave to be with Ballas. During a commercial break during the second hour of the finale’s live telecast Tonioli ran over to Bryan to console her.

“I’m dying right now,” Bryan told PEOPLE. “I know I had to be here, but I’m so worried about him. I’m so mad they wouldn’t let me leave. But I have so much thanks for this show so I guess I had to stay,” Bryan said. “The ambulance came and took him away in the middle of the show, and I just want to get to a phone and call him.”

Ballas went to the hospital with his parents, Corky and Shirley Ballas, by ambulance, Bryan said.

“It’s reality television and a lot of things get manufactured,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “But our show has had so many roller-coaster moments this season. We all are hoping Mark is okay. He’s such a sweetheart.” —Monica Rizzo

You could tell that he was in so much pain last night and he was doing everything he could to hide it. He is a true professional!

Even with his injury both he and Sabrina still delivered the best performance.

I hope his injury isn’t as serious as it sounds. Get well soon, Mark!

My prayers to you Mark! You are a true champion!

Cheri November 28th, 2007

I knew something was up, he wasn’t moving his one arm. It seemed like he wasn’t doing much dancing at all. That’s so sad, he’s so young too. I hope this doesn’t damage his career.

Mark showed last night that he is a true professional, he went out there injured knowing that he could make it worse, yet he didn’t want to let sabrina, the show, and the fans down. He still showed he is the best the show has had. Hope he gets better soon We will keep you in our prayers. We love you Mark!!!

You can see right where he injured himself last night. I just watched their dance again. He must have been in so much pain! He did a good job trying to cover it up … I don’t think Sabrina realized what happened b/c she hugged him when Tom announced they were part of tour. Poor Mark!
