His character Peter may have saved the world from the virus, but after Milo Ventimiglia shot the final scene of the Heroes season finale, several burning questions remained: Is Peter going to the dark side? When will Heroes be back? And, is Ventimiglia dating his cheerleading costar Hayden Panettiere? The actor, 30, chatted with PEOPLE about who’s dead, who’s going bad—and what’s his dating status.—Charlotte Triggs
With Heroes done for the season and the on-going writers’ strike, what have you been up to?
I’m doing two features before Christmas—Game and this other great independent film—so I’m working kind of hard. Then I directed a claymation short for American Eagle. It’s a spin on classic holiday claymation tales, like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. It’s paying homage to them in style and tone with a bit of a twist.
You are one of the characters in the short. What’s it like to see a mini-Milo?
It’s pretty crazy to look at myself as a foot and a half tall with bangs again. Everybody else gets action figures. I get a claymation figure.
There’s buzz that your Heroes character Peter might go over to the dark side. Is it true?
My mom sure hopes not. I think that dark side is within everybody, and I think it’s only natural to explore it. So if they do [have him turn bad], I’ll play along happily.
So tell us, is Nathan is dead?
I hope not. That would be a big blow for me to lose Adrian Pasdar as a coworker. I just think the world of him. He’s like my big brother. From that first day of filming, he just dove right in like, I’m your big brother. We just developed a close friendship and it would really suck if he weren’t around.
At this point, are you just excited to get back to work? When is that supposed to happen?
We don’t know if we’re going back to work in January. It does upset me though because a lot of my friends who are crew are out of work around the holidays.
You and Hayden Panettiere have been linked as a couple. What’s the deal?
I think it’s only natural that people are going to pair us together. We’re both young and single! Everybody else on the show is taken. I’m just flattered. Hayden is a great girl and I’m flattered by the notion of it.
