With Sex and the City creator Darren Star executive producing, Cashmere Mafia could be just what Carrie Bradshaw fans have been missing. So before the show debuts this Sunday (10 p.m. ET on ABC), meet the ladies who are poised to become the next fierce foursome.
Mia Mason (Lucy Liu): She’s a publishing powerhouse who finds herself pitted against her fiancé (Tom Everett Scott) for a promotion. What’s a girl to do? Get her girlfriends’ advice: “They’re facing us off against each other for the publisher. Sudden death. One moves up, and the other moves out. The gun’s gone off, and the finish line is this Friday. So, I go for it, right?”
Zoe Burden (Frances O’Connor): She’s an investment banker who pencils in appointments to see her kids and husband (Julian Ovenden). While participating in a conference call from her home office, she tells her two little ones to keep busy by “drawing a very nice picture of mommy’s head exploding.”
Caitlin Dowd (Bonnie Somerville): She’s a marketing exec who’s looking for Mr. Right — or would that be Ms. Right? Even she’s not quite sure: “I’ve had a terrible time with men and no real experience with women so I’m kind of flying without the instruments here.”
Julie Draper (Miranda Otto): She’s a hotel exec who finds out her husband (Peter Hermann) is cheating. “She’s seems to have the perfect relationship, the perfect family,” the actress says of her character. But “there’s a lot of compromise.”
Their City: A Manhattan filled with impeccable lofts, chic boardrooms, and gorgeous, successful people.
Their Men: Range from good-guy Eric to laser-focused Jack to cheating Davis.
Their Style: If it has a designer label, they’re wearing it. In a word: enviable.
