A former job in the life of American Idol finalist David Hernandez may have come back to haunt him, now that the manager of a male strip club in Phoenix says that the 24-year-old performed in the buff at the establishment for three years, ending in September 2007.
“He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here,” Gordy Bryan, manager of Dick’s Cabaret, an establishment for men, tells the Associated Press.
What Hernandez’s past may mean to his future on Idol remains to be seen. In 2003, finalist Frenchie Davis was removed from the running once it was revealed her picture appeared on an adult Web site — though last year Antonella Barba stayed in the race, despite her racy photos on the Internet.
A spokeswoman for FOX did not return calls seeking comment, AP reports, but the news agency did cite a source who said there are no plans to remove Hernandez from the singing competition.
Hernandez’s first Idol audition took place in San Diego, Calif., on July 30, 2007 — precisely two months before he left Dick’s Cabaret, according to Bryan.
As of Tuesday morning, the singer was slated to perform with the other male contestants on Tuesday night’s program.
