American Idol

Idol: Hello, David Cook!

March 5, 2008

The men sure showed their strength Tuesday when at least four of the eight remaining male contestants — David Archuleta, David Hernandez, Michael Johns and Jason Castro — gave charming and memorable ’80s night performances and received high marks from the judges as the first half of American Idol’s sweet 16 took the stage.

But only David Cook, who played the electric guitar while he sang, stepped into the spotlight to give an exciting emo-rock version of Lionel Richie’s “Hello.”

Judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul told him that if he released the song today, it would be a hit.

Cowell told only two contestants — Archuleta and Hernandez — that he would definitely see them next week, but told Cook he “really, really” hoped he’d be one of the top 12 to perform (Tuesday March 11, 8 p.m. EST) on the (new and bigger) Idol stage.

Tell us: Who had the best performance of the night? Will David Cook make it into the top 12?

I personally thought that was really cool….I mean he could be a great producer too besides being a singer of course:)

I think the best performances was Micheal Johns and David Hernandez. David Archuleta was good this week and he is going to win this year. David Cook will make it to the final 12 because Danny Noriega and Luke Menard killed their songs. They will be going home on Wednesday. I did not like what David Cook did to the song. I love the song “Hello” and it should not have been mess with.

My top 2 favorites of the night were Jason Castro and David Archuleta. Although, I was impressed by David Cooks performance. Overall I was very, very happy that Jason did well because he has a really nice voice and he is different.

I love David Archuleta but was a little disappointed with his song choice. Now David Cook was excellent last night and deserved the praise. He did what the judges had been telling everyone, take the song and make it not only yours but relevant to today. Even my husband who is a Lionel Richie fan loved this version of it!

I loved his performance! :) Last night was the second time only of this season that I actually remembered to sit down and watch AI, and I voted for David Cook several times. I also voted for the Australian….he did an awesome job!!! :)

ps. I’m totally hooked for the rest of the season now! :)

David Cook needs a different look! Yes, he is a good singer, but come on…. he is creapy!

I LOVE DAVID COOK HE IS SO HOT AND HE IS THE NEXT CHRIS DAULTRY WITH THAT POWERFUL ROCKER VOICE I ABSOLUTLEY LOVE HIM AND HOPE HE MAKES IT TO THE TOP 12

There seems to be a double standard here. The judges tell Jason to lose his giutar yet don’t say anything to David C. about playing his every night! I thought his performance was good last night, but would like to see him without the electric guitar.
