American Idol

David Hernandez Leaves Idol

March 13, 2008

After more than 29 million votes were cast Tuesday night, David Hernandez became the first top 12 contestant to leave American Idol.

“Things happen for a reason,” Hernandez told Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday’s live broadcast. “We all have a plan, and on top of that, you know, you’ll see me at the top … this isn’t it for me.”

The final results were announced at the end of the hour-long show, with Seyesha Mercado and Kristy Lee Cook also in the bottom three after Tuesday’s Beatlemania.

“I’ve never seen a stronger bottom three. That’s the truth,” judge Paula Abdul said. “[But] did America get it right? Yes, they did.”

Simon Cowell agreed: “America got this absolutely spot on,” he said, unsurprised.

On Tuesday, after Hernandez sang “I Saw Her Standing There,” Randy Jackson called the performance “overdone” and Cowell said it was “verging on desperate.”

Hernandez had better moments on the show, but facing reports that he was once a dancer at Dick’s Cabaret, a male strip club in Phoenix, Ariz., wasn’t one of them.

Despite the reports, Hernandez was allowed to stay on the show.

“We’re never judgmental about what people do to earn a living,” Idol executive producer Ken Warwick said at the time. “If there’s a stretch of the public that thinks, ‘Oh, dear, he was a male stripper, I’m not gonna vote for him,’ then that’s the luck of the draw.”

Tell us: Did America make the right decision?

why is Carly in this contest? Is she an American citizen? or Irish citizen? An American Idol should have lived American by his/her AMERICAN “BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS”

It is sad to see David H out.
He has a very nice and great voice.

All the contestants really great this year.
But I do hope to see Amanda and Chakizie out soon..

AMERICA got it wrong
HERNANDEZ was much better than
the 2 girls standing next to him
last night
(his PAST caught up to him)
according to DIalIdol (Mercado
was supposed to go so i guess
the judges have the final say)

wow, what a ignorant remark.

Mike…..what does it matter if Carly is a citizen or not? She lives here now and appears to be a really nice, hard working, entertaining member of our society. I’m pretty sure she has a green card otherwise she would’nt be allowed on the show. I think she has a great voice/personality.

I hate to see David H go. He had a bad night, but I think he’s got a ton of potential. I hope he still makes a career for himself.

I think the comment about Carly and her being Irish is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. A big part about America is the fact that people from all over the world are given a chance to make new lives for themselves in the United States. She is a wonderful singer and it doesn’t matter where she grew up, she lives in America now!

Amanda is original and awesome. She is a true American Idol.

Flash March 13th, 2008

What century are you living in? Is she a citizen? Wow! Today we have an African American and a woman fighting to be President of the USA and you want to get rid of a very talented woman who is on a reality show because you wonder if she is a US citizen? Get a grip! This is 2008!!!!!! Individuals before us have fought long and hard so that people will be viewed as equals - why don’t you try it.

Jade March 13th, 2008

well.. that american by blood sweat and teats comment was just a tad over dramatic…

i think david was the best of the bottom 3 and should not have gone home. kristy lee cook is out next week i’m sure. she’s the least talented and most annoying in the top 11.
