Denise Richards’s Reality Show: Dates, Pets and Yes, Her Daughters

March 30, 2008

After having her personal life splayed across the public arena, Denise Richards isn’t ready to put up any guards. In fact, she’s projecting her life as a single, working mom in Hollywood on to the small screen with a new E! reality show that is co-executive produced by friend Ryan Seacrest.

“I made a commitment to do this show, and I want it to be as real as possible — and that’s what it is,” she told PEOPLE Saturday at The Wiggles Live concert at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. “Everyone has a perception of me, and I’m hoping that people will get to see my life and I think I relate to a lot of people.”

Richards points to being a mom, going through a “difficult” divorce with ex-husband Charlie Sheen and losing her mother to cancer as aspects of her life that audiences will relate to.

“See what it’s like to be a single mom raising two daughters and juggling a career … And just recently my dad moved into my house, so it’s balancing all of that. For me it’s the greatest job. I’m having so much fun!”

Seacrest revealed some of the fun when he told PEOPLE that Richards goes on a blind date and that she and daughters Sam, 4, and Lola, 2, get a new pet. “I’m not sure how much I’m supposed to say, but all I can say is [the pet's] name is Bob. And he is fantastic! I love Bob!”

But dating is another story. “I don’t like dating. I really don’t,” she says of her recent experience. “I find it painful. I’m not good at it … He was a lovely man but I was very uncomfortable.”

Richard also addressed her decision to include her young daughters, as well as her dates, on the show.

After Sheen tried to prevent Richards from having Sam and Lola appear in the footage but lost that battle in court, he called for a boycott of the reality show.

“I’m in a no-win situation,” Richards explains. “If I don’t have my children in my show, then people will say ‘Well, she’s really not a hands-on mom.’ If I do have my children, people are saying that I’m exploiting them. And I think there’s plenty of reality shows with families, where you don’t watch them — at least I never did — and think they really exploited their kids.” –Jed Dreben

Yes, Denise, you had a choice. You chose to put yourself on a reality show and therefore chose to include your daughters. Your “no win” situation is one you created on your own. What a bunch of unadultered crap!

Good luck to her.

cindy March 31st, 2008

someone should take those beautiful girls away from her. she is a train wreck and to exploit those children with a reality show! how sad! she should be ashamed of herself. What career! she talks about a career, where! that went away with the divorce.

“I’m in a no-win situation,” Richards explains. “If I don’t have my children in my show, then people will say ‘Well, she’s really not a hands-on mom.’ If I do have my children, people are saying that I’m exploiting them. How about not doing the show at all!? It seems like she is brining the “no win situation” on herself. She should be a full-time mom instead of flaunting herself on a “reality” show. I, for one, will not be watching!

sounds to me like Cindy doesn’t know what she’s talking about because CLEARLY denise has good intentions and loves her daughters. Even after her divorce she is still very successful

You guys are so annoying give her a chance

Oh, give her a break! She’s a beautiful women, with talent and also a very good Mother. Look how she took her Dad in to live with her after her Mom died. That says a lot there. You also always see pictures of her interacting with her children. Charlie, is a sex addict and always will be. If she’s doing a reality show, how can it be real if she doesn’t include her children. She is not exploiting them!
People with such negative attiudes, should get a life! What about Doctor 90210, he had his kids on the show. The Snoop Dogg show, Whitney Huston, Travis Barker reality show, all showed their children. Among other shows not mentioned. What about the one show where they switch families? Are they all exploiting their children too? Funny how the ratings are high for these type of shows. Why are we just singling out Denise Richards? If you don’t like it, DON’T WATCH IT!

What a stupid lady, I will support her husband and boycott. A B actor trying to make something out of nothing. ha ha ha ha so pathetic

Nancy March 31st, 2008

Personally I will not be watching this skank! She blast her ex-husband, steals her FORMER best friends husband, and now sells out her children. I have zero respect for and will not watch her make money off her children. She should be ashamed of herself! Get a real job!!!!!

Paula March 31st, 2008

I believe she has no talent herself and can no longer live off of her husband, except child support, she has to exploit her children to make a living. She is an aweful motherm
