Denise Richards’s Reality Show: Dates, Pets and Yes, Her Daughters

March 30, 2008

After having her personal life splayed across the public arena, Denise Richards isn’t ready to put up any guards. In fact, she’s projecting her life as a single, working mom in Hollywood on to the small screen with a new E! reality show that is co-executive produced by friend Ryan Seacrest.

“I made a commitment to do this show, and I want it to be as real as possible — and that’s what it is,” she told PEOPLE Saturday at The Wiggles Live concert at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live. “Everyone has a perception of me, and I’m hoping that people will get to see my life and I think I relate to a lot of people.”

Richards points to being a mom, going through a “difficult” divorce with ex-husband Charlie Sheen and losing her mother to cancer as aspects of her life that audiences will relate to.

“See what it’s like to be a single mom raising two daughters and juggling a career … And just recently my dad moved into my house, so it’s balancing all of that. For me it’s the greatest job. I’m having so much fun!”

Seacrest revealed some of the fun when he told PEOPLE that Richards goes on a blind date and that she and daughters Sam, 4, and Lola, 2, get a new pet. “I’m not sure how much I’m supposed to say, but all I can say is [the pet's] name is Bob. And he is fantastic! I love Bob!”

But dating is another story. “I don’t like dating. I really don’t,” she says of her recent experience. “I find it painful. I’m not good at it … He was a lovely man but I was very uncomfortable.”

Richard also addressed her decision to include her young daughters, as well as her dates, on the show.

After Sheen tried to prevent Richards from having Sam and Lola appear in the footage but lost that battle in court, he called for a boycott of the reality show.

“I’m in a no-win situation,” Richards explains. “If I don’t have my children in my show, then people will say ‘Well, she’s really not a hands-on mom.’ If I do have my children, people are saying that I’m exploiting them. And I think there’s plenty of reality shows with families, where you don’t watch them — at least I never did — and think they really exploited their kids.” –Jed Dreben

I would like to congratulate her and tell her that she is PHENOMENOM WOMAN! it is hard to raise two girls and at the same time work and also deal with all the criticism the public is giving her! i would definetly watch her show and tell her that she is not exploiting her kids, and that allowing her daughters to be part of the show is great. she is not neglecting them and not putting them second to her career. i think she is a great mother and she will do just fine if she will just follow her heart and block out any negativity that will ruin her life and her two daughters!

A lot of man-hating women out there–those poor kids!

Denise is a better person than Charlie is. Personally I cannot stand the man after the things he said about her…the mother of his children! She CAN act and has been in quite a few movies…Starship Troopers, Valentine,A James Bond Movie, Wild Things, etc…… As for her brief relationship with Richie Sambora, he was just as guilty!! Blame the MAN too!!!!!! HE was the ONE married to Heather!!! WE ALL make mistakes. And it is HER personal Business!! Not OURS! I think she is doing a GREAT job at being a mother, and she is probably a sweet woman. What I have seen and read about Charlie all of his adult life….he seems like a real PRICK! And he looks like he is hell to deal with! DENISE? I WILL BE WATCHING!!! GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exploitive Mom is Exploitive

Michelle April 1st, 2008

If Denise Richards had any real talent, she wouldn’t have to stoop to doing a reality show about the “reality” of her life and exploiting her beautiful daughters so she could keep her “career” alive. I hope this show fails miserably…

What are you thinking, Denise? April 1st, 2008

After reading all of your opinions, I still stand with my head up high: I value my family above anything - money, fame, TV show, etc. Why in the world would you expose your family on reality TV, except for MONEY and FAME? She needs neither.

Donita April 1st, 2008

there’s way in making a living without using the kids. just make sure you keep your man away from her. she doesn’t have a problem messing with her friends MAN that’s for sure.

I wish Denise the best! So many people judge others without knowing all of the facts. Very sad. Nobody knows what it’s like living in her shoes. It’s so funny to me how some people STILL talk about her ’stealing’ Richie from Heather. Nobody ever talks about Richie cheating on Heather or Heather cheating on Richie though, do they?? I guess it must be easy to place blame when you don’t want to realize that there were problems in both relationships. Denise is a very talented actress & a wonderful mother & I look forward to watching her new show!

The more I see of Denise the more sympathy I have for Charlie’s 2 daughters. She had better start preparing herself for when they get older and start understanding what she has done (falsely accusing their Father of random accusations without merit, breaking up a marriage of a friend, now using her kids to anchor a reality show)those kids are going to make a choice that she is not going to like and they will side with their Father and leave her to rise from the ashes from all the bridges that she has burnt.

i will be watching the show . i can’t wait for it to start ! she is a wonderful mom and woman. her ex husband is the one with the problem. he slept with prostitiutes and gambled instead of being a husband and a father. so go ahead girl do your show, further your career and be independent. you got one fan her in jersey ! all u other guys out ther are just haters leave her alone !!!!
