Dolly Parton will play mentor on American Idol Tuesday. Then, the remaining nine contestants — Michael Johns, Brooke White, Carly Smithson, David Cook, Ramiele Malubay, Syesha Mercado, Jason Castro, David Archuleta and Kristy Lee Cook — will perform songs by the country music legend and prolific songwriter.
Tell us: Who will shine like a rhinestone with Dolly’s music? Who will struggle? And will Simon Cowell insult one of her songs?

I thought that tonight might have been like a country week with Dolly, but I didn’t realize that it was all Dolly. I am not sure that some of the people can pull off a Dolly song, but it will definitely be an interesting show. I think that Kristy is going to do well, but I am worried for people like Carly, Michael, and David Cook. I am not sure that people with a rocker side to them can really pull of a Dolly song. Good luck to all though.

I agree with you, Christine. I am also worried about Jason and yes even David Archuleta. I don’t think Kristy is going to go home tomorrow. This is totally her genre. I don’t think Simon will directly insult Dolly’s songs even though he doesn’t like country music, I think he will be disappointed depending on how the contestants sing the song. Maybe David Cook, Michael, and Carly can put a bit of rock edge to their songs.

dolly songs aren’t genre specific. rock bands and pop stars have recorded dolly songs and turned them into rock songs and pop songs. she’s a brilliant songwriter, and i think if they choose the right song each and every one of the remaining idols have the potential to do well. kristy is my least favorite, and if she can’t win me over tonight, she won’t win me over at all!

I was surprised at how many did pretty well. Of course, Kristy did good because it’s county, but beyond tonite, she needs to go.
David Archuleta was awesome and picked a great song. I also think Jason Castro and Michael Johns did really well.
My guess is that Ramiele Malabay may go this week. She isn’t strong enough and just hasn’t been.
Dolly was cute. I was impressed with the night as a whole!

I posted earlier but I have to say that I didn’t even remember seeing David A. sing last night and I watched the whole show. Obviously, his performance wasn’t memorable to me. I think that Jason Castro needs to go. He always sounds the same to me no matter what song he chooses. However, last night was one of his better performances. Kristy’s days are numbered because of being a country singer but look at Josh Gracin from season 2. He had the same problem and he just released his second country album. Carly, Michael, and David C did surprise me and did quite impress me. I think its going to be either Jason or Ramiele who goes home tonight. Syesha did amazing on her song even though Simon didn’t like it. I think she took one of the hardest songs and did an amazing job with it.
