‘The Gutte’ Says Goodbye in Third Dancing Elimination

April 2, 2008

Even the Man-go couldn’t save the Gutte.

On Tuesday night, after dancing a zesty tango with pro Jonathan Roberts, Steve Guttenberg became the third celebrity to exit the Dancing with the Stars ballroom in season six.

Though the judges had praised Guttenberg’s more serious tango with Roberts’s wife, pro Anna Trebunskaya, the night before, the Cocoon star — who earned a decent-for-the-Gutte score of 21 — couldn’t hide from voters.

Still, he made a graceful exit, saying, “I’ve had such a good time here it’s made me a better person.”

Joining Guttenberg and Trebunskaya in the bottom ranks were Mario and Karina Smirnoff, while Monday night’s lowest scoring couple, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani, were deemed “safe.”

Other highlights of the night:
• Kylie Minogue’s rare U.S. performance. The Aussie club favorite — in a swingy blonde bob, red micromini and inches of heels — indulged fans with her hit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.”
• Derek Hough’s quick recovery. The pro, who was rushed to the hospital earlier in the day with a strained neck, stood by his partner Shannon Elizabeth’s side throughout the night.
• Kristi Yamaguchi’s competitive hot dog eating career. (Did we mention it was April 1?)

Tell us: Are you sad to see the Gutte go? Was it his time? Did Mario and Karina’s near-miss surprise you?

I think that Adam Corolla should have left before Steve. He did his best, and that is all that counts.

KG April 2nd, 2008

Um, for accuracy’s sake, Kylie Minogue didn’t wear the red dress when she was singing “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”.

SOMETIMES A NON-DANCER IS MORE FUN TO WATCH- WHEN THEY ARE REALLY TRYING, AND YOU CAN SEE THEM GETTING BETTER. IF THEY ARE CHARMING AND FUN, LIKE STEVE, EVEN IF NOT THE BEST DANCER, YOU STILL WANT THEM TO STAY AROUND. BUT WE KNOW SOMEONE HAS TO GO, AND AS LONG AS THE GOOD DANCERS ARE STILL AROUND, IT’S OK.

I was sad to see Steve go, he really seemed to be enjoying himself and was so gracious to everyone for letting him participate on the show. Can’t say as much for Adam. Wish either Adam or Cristian would have gone instead. At least Steve had some charm about him.

I would have liked to see Adam leave first, but oh well. And by the way, whoever said Cristián should leave…. YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND!!!!!! : ) He is HOT!

Mindy April 2nd, 2008

The Man-go was hilarious, Steve seemed like a gracious person but really not a competitor (he did call the other contestants his team mates). I would have rather seen Adam go too.

However, didn’t they announce on the show that they weren’t revealing a bottom two, and it was just random out of those last 4 couples? The article made it sound as if Mario and Karina were the other half of the “bottom two”

I WAS SOOO SAD TO SEE STEVE GO, HE WAS GETTING SO GOOD ON THE DANCE FLOOR AND ADDED SO MUCH FUN AND CHARM TO THIS SEASON. I HOPE THEY ALLOW HIM TO STAY TO DO COMMENTARY BECAUSE HE IS TERRIFIC.

Very sad to see Steve go….I think if you were basing it just on talent and who should have been sent home, then Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani should have been sent home because considering her talent on broadway, she was certainly less improved. Steve is a true gentleman and we were all certainly better people for being allowed to see what a great guy he is…it would be nice if he did something on TV.

“The Gutte” going home was so sad. What a gracious, sweet man! He & Jonathon’s “mango” dance was a hoot! At this point it is sad to see anyone going home - even Adam who I’ve come to grudgingly like. I just wish he would stop making such off-color jokes about certain groups of people. Anyway, Mr. Guttenburg if your reading this, we love you!!

I hate to say this since I was so excited for the new DWTS. It’s boring! Carrie Ann hit the nail on the head. I usually have a fave by this time. Not so this season.
Steve Guttenberg was indeed gracious and so happy just to be there. Adam Corolla should have been kicked off just on general principles. I loath that big, stupid grin of Marissa’s. Does she never turn it off? I had high hopes for Mario. Let’s hope this week was a bad fluke. Cristian can’t hold a candle to Helio. That guy was/is the hot one.

Trying your best isn’t the most important part of any competition. Being the best is. It is fun to see people who’ve never done ballroom dancing improve week after week. Maybe this group will grow on me. Or I’m just feeling grumpy right now.
