American Idol

A Tearful Ramiele Malubay Leaves Idol

April 3, 2008

It was an all-female bottom three on American Idol Wednesday as Brooke White and Kristy Lee Cook joined Ramiele Malubay on stage in the tedious last minutes of an emotional show.

Malubay, in a tearful goodbye, was cut from the competition and looked like she might not be able to perform her swan song, Dolly Parton’s “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind.” But she took the stage and gave a strong final farewell, touching the hands of fans from the stage while she sang.

Tuesday, after hearing her rehearse, Dolly, this week’s mentor to the Idols, said, “The fact that she’s little ain’t gonna stop her from doing big things.”

But Ramiele’s performance in front of the judges earned her mixed reviews. Randy Jackson said, “I wasn’t jumping up and down but I wasn’t mad at you either.”

Simon Cowell said, “It was cute, you sang it quite well. [But] overall, I thought it was forgettable.”

Not forgettable: Brooke White standing in the bottom three for the first time. The 24-year-old nanny, who sang “Jolene” Tuesday without any emotion (according to Simon), was overwhelmed on the Idol stage. “I’m emotional for a variety of reasons,” she told host Ryan Seacrest while she hugged Ramiele and Kristy Lee. “We throw everything we have into this thing here at American Idol and then you watch that “Idol Gives Back” portion and you think, ‘Gosh, that’s a whole other meaning of difficult and sad, and then Dolly comes out here and [sings her song] ‘Jesus & Gravity’ and it was really amazing.”

Brooke was the first of the three to join the others on the safe couch, where David Cook was already resting easy. The singer, who was admitted to the hospital the night before for a “spike” in his high blood pressure told Seacrest earlier in the night, “I’m cool. I’m not going anywhere.” And neither was Kristy Lee, whose “Coat of Many Colors” earned her a spot in the top eight.

Tell us: Did America make the right decision? Will you miss Ramiele on American Idol?

It was a bad night for me cuz my favorite idol-’RAMIELE’ was booted off. Kristy Lee and Syesha should already be gone wayyy before Ramiele. Ramiele is the best singer of the batch. Can’t wait to see her on AI tour.

Janet April 3rd, 2008

She needed to go! But Brooke in the bottom was a disgrace!

Donna McCallum April 3rd, 2008

SORRY, I meant to say in #6 spot, David Cook!!

Pam April 3rd, 2008

I think that America got it right! Although, I was afraid that it would be time for Jason to go I think he is tremendously talented but it seems like he sings the same song every week. He needs to switch it up and show that he can be diverse - HE NEEDS TO PULL OUT ALL THE STOPS NEXT WEEK or it will be his turn to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kristy Lee Cook has also reached her end and will go soon! My money is on Carly, David Cook, and Michael Jones in the top 3.

NO! kristy lee cook should’ve been gone a long time ago. the bottom three was pretty much right though i think, as much as i like ramiele and brooke. ramiele gave a great goodbye performance as well!

kristy lee has been so lucky, she better get kicked off next week ahhhh

Ramiele is a very good singer with a really big voice that unfortunately we didn’t often hear. I think a few years down the road we will see her again. I think the whole Idol thing was too big for her right now. She is very young for her age…thats ok…she has time on her hands. If she had been more emotionally ready for all this I think we would have heard a different Ramiele.

Ramiele is a great singer, and I hated to see her go. I really enjoyed her.
She has a wonderful voice, and who knows, maybe she will be more successful than any other in the
competition.
I wish her well!

Sue April 3rd, 2008

No, I will definitely not miss Ramiele. I thought she should have been the first to go.

joeysgirl April 3rd, 2008

I won’t miss her!! she’s a karaokee girl.

David Cook is the best!! I hope he’s fine ’cause he must win!

Her departure has been a long time coming. I’m so tired of watching her boring personality on stage and her pout every time the judges didn’t like her performance. She can sing, but she’s definitely NOT idol material! Please people….start thinking “IDOL”. Who has the voice, the stage presence and the consistency in their performances?? Kristi Lee Cook has to go as well. She takes things too personal - she’s good, but not that good. Everyone loves David Archuleta - even me, but he’s too shy to be an idol right now - he has no stage presence - just a voice! He definitely has a future however, Same with Jason Castro. He’s creative and different, but his stage presence also sucks. Carly has a great voice but she’s too dark and doesn’t have much personality on stage. Her look doesn’t match her singing ability and Simon was right about her clothes - she looks like she makes her own the night before and…must we see her tatooed arm every night?? It’s like she wears sleeveless clothes to make a point. Ok, we’ve seen the tatoo work - move on and dress like a woman! There’s more to being an idol than just standing on stage and opening your mouth! Brooke White has a beautiful originality to her voice and she can play instruments. She definitely has true talent and I would honestly buy her records. However, she’s too sweet - she needs more stage personality! The real talent lies with Michael Johns, David Cook and Sayesha Mercado. All three have good personalities on stage (except David needs to learn to keep his tongue in his after a big effort). Simon should give Sayesha a break - it’s ok to compare her to Whitney Houston - we could use a new Whitney since Whitney threw away her God given talent to waste her prime singing years being married to and doing drugs with Bobby Brown. So, not that anyone asked me, but those are my favorites for the final three.
