Bachelor Speaks Out About Romance With Marla Maples

April 8, 2008

Former Bachelor Andy Baldwin and Marla Maples — a.k.a. the former Mrs. Donald Trump — have a “blooming romance,” the Naval officer tells PEOPLE.

“We met (last year) and I found her to be very sweet, positive,” he said of the 44-year-old Maples. “She’s polite and respectful and has a great heart.”

Although the two were spotted together in New York City over the holidays — prompting rumors of a love connection — Baldwin said their relationship didn’t became romantic until February, when he returned home from an overseas military mission.

Baldwin, who’s in his early 30s, is in the process of relocating from Hawaii to Washington, D.C., for a new job assignment. He’s currently vacationing in Los Angeles, where he’s been logging quality time with the California-based Maples.

The two have been spotted frolicking on the beach, attending a youth camp supported by their friend Deborah Gibson and arriving arm-in-arm at Monday’s Dancing with the Stars.

“It takes someone special for me to spend time away from my daughter (14-year-old Tiffany), because she’s my priority,” Maples told PEOPLE before the show. The two held hands through the evening, and spoke earnestly of their love connection.

“There’s a lot of sweet, cute people in the world, but it’s what’s in here,” Maples said, gesturing to Baldwin’s heart, “that counts.”

So is the age difference an obstacle? “She has the mind, body and energy of a 25-year-old,” insisted Baldwin. “When you have a connection with someone, age goes out the window.”

As for social worker Tessa Horst — to whom he proposed in the Bachelor finale — they called it quits last September. “I definitely care for her a great deal,” said Baldwin, who added that they have kept in touch. “I have no regrets about that experience or the relationship that we had.” — Elaine Aradillas

All you haters out there leave these two adorable people alone and go on with your own business, if you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all, too many negativity in this world already. I wish them both happiness together. You go marla!!! Have a good time with that handsome man of yours!!

Publicity Stunt. No one is more important than my 14 y.o. son!! I would not be away from him, in another state, with a chicklet toothed idiot!! Wait, her daughter is a Trump, most likely in private/boarding school, and not much need for a “publicity wh_ r _” of a mom.

If he’s so happy than why does he look so stiff and uncomfortable? He surely didn’t look like that when he was with Tessa Horst!

D for Tessa April 8th, 2008

After reading……….I think Tessa was from Washington state? Not D.C. Seems Andy was not the Gentleman, only the Officer. Tessa knew when Andy started running around while they were engaged that it was not for her and that is when she broke it off. You get what you pay for is what Marla is probably thinking. As said before the energy may be of a 25 yr old, but that face and neck, OMG! Perhaps that is what is meant by a DOUBLE BAGGER! Tessa is much better off and Andy got what he deserved if this is actually true and not a publicity stunt. It is too bad that the US Navy is putting up with all this bad publicity, oh wait it is ELECTION year isn’t it! LMAO!!!!!

no one April 8th, 2008

my brother was a naval officer and made very *interesting* choices in the women he dated and eventually married. maybe it’s the job that makes them nuts! what a waste of a hot sailor lol!

What is wrong with society when a May-December relationship is okay with an older male, but it can’t be okay with an older female. That is totally hypocritical to me. IF someone finds a person that is right for him/her it shouldn’t have anything to do with age. My husband is 14 years older than me and I am totally in LOVE and happy. He doesn’t act his age and we have wonderful conversations and just fit perfectly together.

This once again PROVES my point that ABC needs to STOP doing so many “The Bachelor” and do MORE, equal more “Bachelorette” which they have NOT done. None of these guys, except for the pro bass fisherman Bryon was it, (who was an older man READY to settle down, I think him & Mary are supposed to get married sometime soon, but been hearing that since his season of The Bachelor ended, but at least they’re still together) and maybe that one actor “might” still be with the girl he picked but did NOT propose to…ABC would have more “success” stories if they did more Bachlorettes seasons…and hey, use some more “mature” people instead of these young 22 year old girls (like most of this new Bachelor London Calling show)…we might be more mature, maybe even be divorced, but we deserve to find love too and I think the more mature men, even if they used single, more mature men, like Byron, would be more inclined to stay with who he picks. Plus, ABC does these couples way more harm than good by the way this show is shot. It could easily be shot as they’re living it, and have a LIVE finale..that way the new couple, if there was one, not like that jerk who didn’t pick either lady (now of which one gets to BE the next Bachelorette just like Trista was)…but at least they’d get to start seeing each other the minute their season was over. You keep people apart after a whirlwind romance like they have on that show with all it’s “perks” and expensive stuff and only let them see each other maybe twice or even limited talking on the phone and just see how many people lose whatever little “spark” that might have been there during the filming of the show. The reason that Trista and Ryan worked out was the men seen her on the Bachelor and awful she got treated by Alec Michael and they were already interested in her when they applied to be on the show…just like what will happen with this new Bachelorette…they seen her and the other girl get humiliated by that crud from Texas (who I’m sure only did the show as advertisement for he & his twin brother’s bars)…and they men who apply to be her bachelors to pick from will know who she is up front just like they did Trista…ABC is truly lost when it comes to doing this show if they really wanted “success” stories. Andy and Marla???? Well he stressed MANY times during his season on the Bachelor that he wanted to start having children right away and Marla, while I don’t think anything is wrong with her except her taste in Donald Trump, is already 44 years old while he’s a young 30ish…it seems this show gives these men the “big head” and I personally believe that’s why NONE of them stay with who they pick, if they pick, that and being kept apart for too long while the show airs…chemistry is a funny thing…sparks flash fast and hot sometimes, but if you can’t be around that person on a regular basis to fan them they die pretty fast, considering meeting on a show like this. I’m glad Andrew Firestone found someone great, Jen didn’t deserve him, from what I read, he was crazy about her and she didn’t do right by him…one of the FEW Bachelors I truly believe would have married the lady he picked and proposed to on his finale of The Bachelor. ABC needs to wake up and retool this show, I know I’m getting sick of seeing these men pick someone, while trashing other’s feelings along the way, then by the time the show finishes airing, they’re not even remotely interested in the lady the picked. I don’t know about all you single ladies out there…but I’m single and 47…and look pretty darn good for my age…but give me 25 single, good looking men to chose from and I can assure you I will find someone that I’d be happy with….men are just fickle and ABC needs to do as many Bachelorettes as they’ve done The Bachelor, but obviously they’re not going to do that.
