First Look at Swingtown: CBS’s Groovy New Series

April 11, 2008

CBS is taking it back to the swinging ’70s with a new drama called Swingtown, about friends and neighbors experimenting with newfound sexual freedom during the decade of cultural change. Looking for a sense of community, Susan and Bruce Miller (Molly Parker and Jack Davenport, center) move to an upscale neighborhood in suburban Chicago in the summer of 1976. There, they meet Tom and Trina Decker (Grant Show and Lana Parrilla, left), a wild couple who love to show off their fast lifestyle. The Millers are tempted by their new neighbors but also don’t want to alienate their old friends, the conservative Janet and Roger Thompson (Miriam Shor and Josh Hopkins, right).

Swingtown may be That ’70s Show meets Desperate Housewives or Friends meets Sex and the ’70s. Either way, the series, which premieres May 29 (10 p.m. ET) on CBS, promises controversy, a disco-laced soundtrack, polyester and the appropriate use of the word “groovy.” Sounds like fun.
