David Cook has his share of fans, but last Tuesday, the Idol rocker had a noticeably enthusiastic (and recognizable) supporter in the audience — Lacey Schwimmer, cousin to Friends star David and third place finisher on Fox’s summer hit So You Think You Can Dance.
Well, it turns out that the Idol contestant and the dancer have been spending a little more time together since hitting it off at Idol Gives Back.
“They have been hanging out a lot lately,” a rep for Schwimmer confirms to PEOPLE. “They did get very close during [Idol Gives Back] rehearsals,” but now (after a lukewarm performance last week), “he’s really trying to concentrate on the competition, so they’re taking things very slow.”
The pair recently hit Hollywood eatery Doughboy and found out they have something in common. “She surprised him by bringing him there,” a source tells PEOPLE. “He was like, ‘Did you read my fan blogs, because breakfast is my favorite meal?”
The restaurant, which serves breakfast all day long, is also a favorite of Schwimmer, who loves their signature red velvet cake. In fact, it’s “the way to Lacey’s heart,” the source adds. “If you want a date with her, that’s how.”
So do these two have a chance? “She has a lot of sass to her and she would throw her sass at David and he would throw it right back,” the source says. “They have this chemistry that really works … their humor just bounces right off each other.”
Schwimmer, who is recovering from knee surgery after the So You Think You Can Dance Tour, is currently filming a video with Keri Russell spoofing the YouTube show starring Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux. In the clip, Schwimmer and Hairspray Director Adam Shankman, a guest judge on SYTYCD last season, will battle The Miley & Mandy Show stars in a dance-off.
