First Look: Christian Siriano On Ugly Betty

Need a fierce fix? Project Runway winner Christian Siriano, who was famously spoofed on Saturday Night Live, is back on TV, playing himself in on ABC’s Ugly Betty in an episode airing May 1.

The plot: Mode magazine is trying to convince Christian to work with them for a fashion spread instead of their competitors. So the designer shows up for a meeting with an entourage of models wearing his designs and Runway judge Nina Garcia, who also plays herself on the episode.

“Filming Ugly Betty was amazing,” Siriano, 22, tells PEOPLE. “The cast was the most fun, lively and supportive ever.” In addition to the outfits he designed for his model pals, the Runway winner also whipped up a look for Becki Newton (Amanda) — who happens to be a huge Christian fan.

So, who was the fiercest cast member of them all? “Ooooh, they’re as fierce and ferocious as they can be,” raves Siriano. “Vanessa Williams is the queen of fierceness and Becki Newton is the princess … I’m inviting them all to my Spring 2008-09 collection — it’ll be a great front row!” –Rennie Dyball

Is Christian talented? Absolutely. Yes. For the catwalk and haute couture crowd. But probably 90% of regular women would not be able to wear his designs because 1) his clothing is probably not going to be budget friendly and 2) you really can’t wear his designs to work, school, the grocery store, etc. No one is being a “hater” or “jealous” … it’s a simple fact. Sure, it would be great to have one or two of his pieces to wear for special occasions, but seriously, just how often will someone REALLY be able to wear his designs? Unless you work for Vogue or somewhere else in the fashion industry - or you are a celebrity - Christian’s designs are just not realistic for every day wear. Great design, incredible talent, impractical clothes … and annoying as absolute hell with his fierce, hot tranny mess self.

FIERCE all the way! The kid has personality. It is all for fun! He is a cool kid.
And he is talented, young who lacks experience, but his talent will carry him through. Those designs of himself are expected of someone young and idealistic. He will develop and I really think he will continue to deliver some amazing creations.

I can’t wear any of the designs, but I love looking at them! And I have to agree with the woman above me..i love those fashion models! Of course, the one she’s talking about is my sister! Yay!
