Tuesday’s Dancing: What You Didn’t See

April 16, 2008

Cristian’s New Latin Strategy
After sweating out another night of what he likes to call “Torture, the Latin Tuesday”, Cristian de la Fuente has come up with a new plan to win over the judges. “To make Carrie Ann happy,” the married stud joked, “Cheryl and I are going to make out. To make Len happy, my arms will be framed perfectly. And to make Bruno happy, we’re going to work on my footwork.” Partner Cheryl Burke was more matter-of-fact, jumping in to inform de la Fuente, “Basically, we’re going to work on everything.”

Another evening under the red lights had de la Fuente looking longingly into the audience to find some solace with his ever-present wife, Angelica. “She was probably praying throughout the whole show,” Cristian joked, “and she has a bigger connection with the higher powers than I do, so she is my connection up there.”

Goodbye, Priscilla, We Hardly Knew You
Priscilla Presley took her Dancing dismissal with the same elegance that she showed on the dance floor, breaking from her final dance with partner Louis van Amstel and rushing across the parquet to hug son Navarone. The very private actress didn’t hang around to chat, but her co-stars had plenty of good things to say about their “Queen of the Ballroom.” “One of the most private people that you will ever meet, and she came out and bloomed like a flower,” Marlee Matlin signed. As the cast and crew bid a hasty adieu to Presley, Mario summed up the cast’s collective emotions, saying, “She’s a great person, she has a lot of humility for who she is…We’re all going to miss her.”

The Real ‘Poopie’ Scoopy
Karina Smirnoff’s term of endearment for partner Mario now has a whole new meaning. “When we were on the stairs,” the bronzed dancer explained mischievously, “Marissa said to Mario, ‘Dude, I’m going to the bathroom three times a day, I’m sh—— my brains out!’ I’m quoting her! And Mario says, ‘Me too!’” Seems as if the stress of the ballroom is taking it’s gastrointestinal toll. “I’ll be honest,” Mario admitted with a laugh, “Marissa and I had a ‘moment’ backstage, and all I can say is, ‘Ladies first’, always.”

When the Levee Breaks
Left in the bottom three, Shannon Elizabeth broke down in tears during the final commercial break. “When they give you ‘The Speech,’” the still teary-eyed actress said, referring to the final stage directions from the crew, “I started to think about what I would say, it kind of freaked me out!” The actress was able to pull herself together, aided by the combined efforts of her adoring dance partner Derek Hough, Marlee Matlin—and even judge Carrie Ann Inaba.

At one point, the sobbing and shaken Elizabeth mouthed, “I’m sorry” to Inaba, to which the judge motioned with her arms that she should breathe in deeply. After the show, Elizabeth sought out Inaba and gave the judge a hug, saying of the exchange, “She was just telling me that she is just like me, that she’s a really emotional person, and to try to breath.”

Lost in Translation
Once again, Marissa Jaret Winokur defied DWTS odds, not only surviving to dance another week, but actually staying out of the bottom four. “I absolutely cannot believe that we’ve made it this far!” the Broadway star crowed, “No one in my life can believe it, all my friends are like, ‘Yeah, I’m voting, but how many friends do you have?’” A surprisingly calm Tony Dovolani could only add, “The one thing that I’ve always said is, if we make it past the first week, then people are going to fall in love with her, just like I did.”

But next week’s Viennese waltz might prove more difficult than the rest. “I thought it was the Vietnamese waltz!” Jaret Winokur laughed, “I thought that it was gonna be straight out of Miss Saigon, and I was really excited. I don’t know what these dances are, that’s the reason that I’m here!” – Reagan Alexander

Why are you using the terms “bottom three” and “bottom four?” Aren’t the announcements of who’s safe ‘in no particular order?’ Isn’t it possible that Marissa was closer to leaving than Shannon or Marlee?

Miss Austria April 16th, 2008

Viennese waltz v. Vietnamese waltz - I wish people would start realizing that being offensive is not funny.

Kim April 16th, 2008

I am a huge fan of Dancing with the Stars, This year the judges just seem to get nasier with their comments..which takes away from the show.
I have to say that Marlee Matlin should be getting such higher scores I understand she is deaf and she is judged around that which is only fair but my God…she hears nothing and has came out every week and kicked serious Butt!
For all she is doing without hearing a note of music, or the voice of her dance partner give direction. I think she should win hands, no one can top her!

Pandora April 16th, 2008

DANCE WITH THIS STAR…….

Kitty April 16th, 2008

I love this show too and I agree, the judges seem to be much nastier this year. I also don’t think Marissa meant any harm with her comment about the Viennese waltz. She’s just admitting she never heard of nor knows anything about the dance. Easy mistake.

Lisa April 16th, 2008

I thought the vietnamese waltz comment was hilarious!!!

A April 16th, 2008

There is no bottom 4.Whoever writes this thing should learn to pay attention. It’s abundantly clear that Shannon is extremely needy. She always appears to be on the verge of a breakdown. She was likely a spoiled brat when she was a kid and hasn’t been able to let go of it. And for the love of God, Marissa wasn’t making a racist comment. Talk about being touchy. Grow up.

Valerie April 16th, 2008

To Miss Austria -

Give it a rest with the whole “offensive” thing. She wasn’t being nasty or rude, she just thought it was called the Vietnamese Waltz, and she was excited about it. Just because a person says a race doesn’t make it a racist statement. What is our world coming to when someone can’t say Vietnamese Waltz without it supposebly being offensive?

Bea April 16th, 2008

Miss Austria, I agree being offensive is not funny. However, I suggest you stop being so sensitive. Viennese waltz v. Vietnamese waltz is an easy mistake to make. Give the other person the benefit of the doubt until you know for sure what their motivation is. I am really, really tired of people being so touchy about what someone says and everyone having to apologize for this and that.

another fan April 16th, 2008

If Marissa was such a big fan of DWTS as she says she is…shouldn’t she know after 6 seasons that its the Viennese Waltz?

pianosoft April 16th, 2008

I believe someone in So You Think You Can Dance once referred to the Viennese Waltz as the Vietnamese Waltz. Could be that’s why Marissa used it.

Kathy H April 16th, 2008

I am SICK TO DEATH of everybody wearing race on their sleeve. This world has become ENTIRELY too sensitive. She meant NOTHING hateful or offensive by her comment, she just didn’t know the name of the @#$% dance! And to the person who said if she was “such a fan of DWTS” she should have known the correct name, the last ’season’ of DWTS was the FIRST season the Viennese Waltz was a competition dance - in ALL previous seasons, if it was done at all, it was for fun only, usually the entire group at once, and was NEVER judged.

People just need to get over themselves, not everything that people say has a racial undertone. We’ve taken PC WAY too far to the exteme. Sheesh.

Cheri April 16th, 2008

There is no bottom 3. There’s bottom 2 and then everyone else is in no order. The author of this article should do some research before they write.

Ms. Austria you are ridiculous. If something like a minor slip up on the name of a dance offends you, perhaps you should turn off the TV and stay in your home to avoid being offended.

Janet April 16th, 2008

I thought it was Vietnamese too. Its just an honest mistake. Are you trying to pick out scandals? I thought Marissa was good-and Marlee is fading, unfortunately. Does anyone else think Shannon and Derek would be an adorable couple??

Frances Remedies April 16th, 2008

I love DWTS’and the stars and pro’s are all great. I am getting a little bored with the changes tho. Seems like the dancers use to do two dances on the first night. Now only one. Also the judges are almost predictable as to their votes. Marissa gets a little overly excited and makes a mistake in pronouncing the name of a dance, big deal. We all make mistakes. Go Marissa!!!!!!

Jeny4rmdablock April 16th, 2008

Miss Austria,

I’m so glad to know that you are so perfect and never made a mistake or mispronouced a word! You rock!!! Please stop with the drama… Everything this year is about race all over a sudden. Welcome to being BLACK IN AMERICA!!! It really isn’t a big deal just a mistake and I would’ve done the same thing! If it isn’t addressed at you and if it doesn’t make or break you then leave it alone. Life is to short for the pettiness!

Buddy April 16th, 2008

I miss the way the all the professional dancers used to dance more on the result show. I do like the kids though and was so glad to see the 2nd group get through. I don’t remember his name but that little boy was like watching a little Max! So cute! Also, they were still kids; the other couple acted like they were 20 and they were 10 (I think.) Work hard at dancing but still be a kid! I hope the fact I called them kid’s doesn’t offend anyone! I feel sorry for Cheryl, I think she was holding back because she has been accused of having an affair with Drew and if there is any chemistry between the pro’s and their partner people instantly assume they have something going on. I wish I had something going on with Max!

liz April 16th, 2008

PLEASE, get someone to write the article who understands the show! They never announce the “bottom four”, just the bottom two. Shannon and Marissa were not necessarily the next two with the lowest scores (as the hosts remind us over and over again through the broadcast).

Leigh April 16th, 2008

To Kathy H, the V.Waltz has been judged since the first season from what I remember. Definitely was judged in Season 4 at the latest because I remember Apolo and Julianne’s waltz and being angry that Len gave them an 8. In any case, Marissa didn’t mean any harm, honest mistake. Love Shannon, she is really hard on herself and wants to do so well which is why she got so emotional at the thought of being kicked off. She and Derek make an awesome team, I so hope they make the finals.

Aimee April 16th, 2008

Marlee’s not being able to hear is just as much of a handicap as other dancers who just cannot feel rhythm. I am not saying that she hasn’t done an incredible job considering her inability to hear, but she is no different from the other challenged participants. They ALL signed on knowing how they would be judged with the understanding they would all be held to the same standards.

DanceDancePartyParty April 16th, 2008

FYI…the Waltz and the Viennese Waltz are two different dances. The first few seasons the contestants danced the Waltz…it was only one or two seasons ago that they replaced it with the quicker paced Vienesse Waltz.

rose April 16th, 2008

dear miss austria……get over yourself and learn to laugh a little bit it will do a body good.

Kris April 16th, 2008

Ok PANDORA….enough we don’t need a link to your product line on every page!

Beth April 16th, 2008

Kim-THANK YOU!!! Finally! I totally agree that Marlee is just AWESOME! After she made Carrie Ann cry I thought for sure that she would get some of the scores that she deserved. Not a chance though. MAN that made me mad!

noni April 16th, 2008

To Miss Austria, is it very reprehensible for you to take, that Viennese was mistakenly said vietnamese? Why? Are you a pure ARYAN that you despise another race particularly Vietnamese. This the 21st century wake up and grow up or go back to where you came from.

Joy April 16th, 2008

I’m a huge DWTS fan,but it seems that this years dancers either ‘have it’ or don’t.My favorites are Kristi and Jason. Now having said that let me say this…I voted for Priscilla several times and thought she was a great dancer. She did disappoint me on Monday night. However the only thing that she messed up on was the turn(the judges said it was rather boring) am I wrong in thinking that Priscilla should have gotten higher scores then Marlee?I think what Marlee is doing is Great, but if they are going to judge based on how a person dances(which is what they said night 1)then how did Marlee walk away ahead of Priscilla in the points? She was a train wreck!I admire her for getting out and finishing, but her dance was no where near as good as even Priscilla’s.And yet she scored higher based on the fact that being deaf she didn’t quit. That’s not how they’re suppose to judge,is it?

Lisa April 16th, 2008

Miss Australia, oh I mean Austia,
Are you one of those superior beings who has nothing better to do than wait for someone to make a mistake and then pounce on them with an air of authority to tell them how offensive they are being.

Political correctness is getting old! Choose your battles carefully. Make them few and far between and you’ll enjoy life much more.

Elisabeth April 16th, 2008

Priscilla was penalized for doing a lift because it’s against the rules. That’s why her scores were so low.

Kali April 16th, 2008

A-

Just b/c Shannon got emotional at the thought of leaving doesn’t make her ‘needy’. There’s plenty of articles to illustrate how she was a trooper and her #1 priority was Derek when he was hospitalized-twice.

Something you have to realize is the whole reason ppl don’t want to go home, is b/c they’re having the times of their lives. Their words. So it’s understandable they’d become emotional at the idea of the experience ending & leaving their new friends.

Shannon and Derek in particular have become quite close. I have enjoyed every min of it…And all the stars have admitted to clinging to their pros b/c they’re not used to the “live” thing. So cut em some slack.

maggie April 16th, 2008

i love cristian de la fuente he is so hottt steming hot….bailemos

rodzilla April 16th, 2008

cris eres el mejor

LizFromNYC April 16th, 2008

No! no! no! not another week of seeing Marrisa ’s ear-to-ear toothy grin!!! I don’t know what’s worse her toothy ass grin or her dancing. Uh, yes it’s her dancing. I felt she was the WORST of the night. When the judges and people give her high marks, I wonder who they’re watching, certainly not Marrisa. Oh well!!!

Mindy April 16th, 2008

Frances, the couples do two dances in a show when they are down to maybe the last 5 or 6 couples, so they can fill the time of the show. There isn’t time for 12 or 10 or 8 couples to do two dances. That is the 2nd half of the season where that’s done.

For those who seem keen on a romance between Derek and Shannon, there is an 11 or 12 year age difference between them. They may be cute together but he’s a guy who’s 22 or 23 years old and she’s turning 35. Not to say that there aren’t couples where the woman is 12 years older, but they aren’t two young kids, she’s mid thirties.

stacey April 16th, 2008

I am a big fan of DWTS,I don’t think that Cheryl and Cristian should of been in the bottom. Pricilla and Marissa should of been at the bottom.the right one was voted off. To be honest I think Marlee, should win becuase being handicapp she has come a long way and she is good. It’s true the Samba wasn’t meant for her, but she did the best she could. It was too fast for someone that is going by vibrations from the floor. I give her credit. Good Luck in the next few coming.

Jonathan Bodack April 16th, 2008

The DWTS news is awesome, keep it coming!

Love DWTS April 16th, 2008

She was only trying to prove that she doesn’t know anything about dancing, I’m sure she knew it what the waltz was called. And she was not being racist or offensive. Geez. People are touchy and it’s really getting old.

Joy April 16th, 2008

To Elizabeth-priscilla did a lift last week. Not this past Monday dear!!!This past Monday she did the Rumba and all they said was it was dull and to technical. No lift!!!

Alexanica April 16th, 2008

I LOVE these reports! SO much fun. And I think the stuff Marissa said about the waltz was totally innocent. And the poopie scoopie tidbit is funny, too. I can’t wait until next week! I totally ‘heart’ Dancing With the Stars!!!

miss saigon April 16th, 2008

Miss Austria, I don’t get why mistaking Vietnamese Waltz with Viennese Waltz is offensive. To whom is it suppose to be offensive? Am I just missing something here? Seriously, if someone could shed some light on this, I would appreciatie it.

Betsy April 16th, 2008

Hey Miss, she wasnt trying to be politically offensive! She’s deaf isnt she? Maybe she just misunderstood? Take a chill pill!

Vicki April 16th, 2008

Hmmm…I wonder if the people of Vienna are offended each time they hear someone will be performing the Viennese waltz. It’s the name of a dance - not a racial slur. Lighten up. Go have an English muffin or a piece of French toast.

me April 17th, 2008

I am so sick and tired of Shannon’s constant crying and whining. She even did that on Celebrity Poker. She likely figures if she cries enough, she’ll get what she wants. It’s likely how she’s lived her entire life. And I’m not so gullible as to think that her act of being so sweet and caring isn’t just that…an act.

DWTSluvr April 17th, 2008

VIETNAMESSE WALTZ VIETNAMESSE WALTZ VIETNAMESSE WALTZ VIETNAMESSE WALTZ.

DWTSluvr April 17th, 2008

happy now?

DWTSluvr April 17th, 2008

oh and is it possible that maybe shannon really cares about the show and is actually crying because she doesn’t want to go? oh no of course not that could never be the reason. come on people grow up.

DWTSluvr April 17th, 2008

especially you ME get over yourself for crying out loud.

JoyB April 17th, 2008

I was sorry to see Priscilla go. I think she’s a very classy lady and I admire her for giving DWTS a shot. All in all, she did quite well, and I hope my body looks as good as hers when I’m 62.

Alex April 17th, 2008

NO such thing as Vietnamese waltz you morons. If you all watch the show, then you would know the correct type of dance.

Victor Victoria April 17th, 2008

Marissa is full of it. If she is such a “BIG FAN” of DWTS as she constantly proclaims, then it is either impossible that she thought the Viennese Waltz was really the Vietnamese Waltz, or she is as dumb as she is fat.

Actually, I’m willing to believe the latter. The sugar induced coma from the 34th blueberry muffin she ate that morning could explain it.

Lorrie April 17th, 2008

Give it a rest, who cares what is said and not said correctly, the show is about dancing and watching these people come from not knowing ballroom dancing to doing their best out there to put on a great performance each week to keep us all watching is remarkable. May the best man or woman win with their head held high and know they gave it their all.

Kaley April 17th, 2008

okay I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo glad that priscilla got kicked off she is HOR-I-BAL! i mean really, the lady cantn dance, well bye

Sandy April 17th, 2008

I have been a fan of DWTS for several years, but only watched the last two shows until this season. I tuned in from the start just to see Priscilla. I was really surprised how well she did in the first few episodes and she looked AMAZING. I think the increased pressure as the weeks progressed made it difficult for her to stay consistent. She performed with poise and grace and should be very proud of her accomplishments. Best of luck to the rest of the group in the week’s ahead. You make Monday and Tuesday evenings fun.

Diane April 17th, 2008

I am still smarting over the judges’ previous encore pick highlighting the unicycle. It made a mockery of the contestants who actually demonstrated improvement that week. I would have preferred to watch Jason or Shannon dance again. Also, I do not believe someone who has been trained in classical ballet should be allowed to compete on the program.

millie faber April 17th, 2008

I must admit I became hooked to DWTS last season watching Helio. This season I am especially impressed with Marlee’s dancing capabilities and rhythm especially in light of her handicap. I agree with others that she has been overly penalized by the judges for simple errors. She is an inspiration.

Jennie April 17th, 2008

I like that Shannon cares and wants to compete. BTW, anyone else bored by this season? Since day 1, they made it clear it will be Kristi vs. Jason. Those two bore me and neither pairing is entertaining. Kristi and Mark dance well but they are so clinical and it is boring.

I’ll take Marlee/Fabian and Derek/Shannon who bring so much fun and really are more raw in their talents and showing progression.

Sabrina April 18th, 2008

DWTS is great. Re: Marissa? Get over it. It was neither clever, nor offensive. I was just a phonetic mistake. I think she’s sweet and humble to admit that she doesn’t always know what’s up. I think Shannon Elizabeth might be a little insecure and spoiled, but who isn’t at her age? She’s a child. However, I do think she and Derek need to just get it over with.
Cheryl Burke will alway be my fav. Much luck to her and her new dance studio. Oh! and good luck to Julianne with her new album as well!

Linda April 19th, 2008

I think Derek and Shannon are dating now. Here’s a pic of them kissing on the beach:
http://www.people.com/people/gallery/0,,20192332,00.html

Annie April 20th, 2008

I’m just glad that the “not as good” dancers are
going out first, although I wouldn’t have put Priscilla in that catagory. I have always thought
the judges scores should count more than the votes. Too many stars are being voted out because they don’t have the name recognition others have -Albert Reed & Sabrina Bryan being 2 of those.

Team Shrek April 21st, 2008

All I can say is.. GO SHANNON AND DEREK!!!!!!! LOVE THEM AND THEY ARE JUST THE GREATEST

Seth April 21st, 2008

Kim the judges are being nastier because of Kristi. Even when she messes up they are still really happy with her and giver her the top scores.

Yes Shannon is now looking mighty needy to me. Ther are three extremely needy people in that show, Christian, Marissa and Shannon and the only person who seems to suffer from that is Christian.

Doni April 22nd, 2008

There was nothing entertaining in watching Priscilla. She is a very cold person. There are many stars who wish to be private but still are warm people. Being someone’s ex wife, wow what an accomplishment??!!

The person who made a remark to Marissa being fat…are all the fat people outraged with Victor Victoria’s statement how offense is that?? Where is Miss Austria when you need her??

Charlotte April 22nd, 2008

I hope Marissa wins this. I think the judges were cruel to her in the beginning and they still hold a grudge with Tony for last year giving them a rule book. He absolutely lights up when he looks at her. It is his amazing encouragement of her that has made her so confident. He can hardly contain himself when he is around her. I love watching them

rossmoorefr April 22nd, 2008

I think the judges? spoil the show. The infantile game played when someone is let off the show I always hope THEY would all just walk off the showl Their FAVORITISIM is revolting. THE FOX TROT WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DANCE. YET THEIR TONGUES WERE WAGGING OVER A JITTERBUG >>>>LOSE THEM?????????

Betty April 25th, 2008

I think this season of Dancing With The Stars is not as good as some before. The talent might be there but I don’t think the stars are making that great of an effort to do their best.

Kristie April 25th, 2008

Is there anybody reading this who was AT the show when Priscilla was voted off? You couldn’t see it on camera, but Cristian was a bit obnoxious :( When they announced that Priscilla was going home he ran around high-fiving people and totally ignored Priscilla. Most of the contestants were respectfully facing the dance floor and listening to Priscilla talk, but not Cristian. I know he was excited that he didn’t get sent home, but come on! Have some respect! He actually PICKED MARISSA UP and was bouncing her around. Then came high-fiving and hugging everybody. I thought it was very unprofessional. One of my friends said, “Is he drunk?” I’m sure he wasn’t, but that’s how strange his behavior was.

susan lamia May 25th, 2008

AMERICA GOT IT RIGHT. BUT I THINK CHRISTIAN SHOULD HAVE GOTTON 2ND. PLACE.
