Last Night’s DWTS: Marlee’s Last Mambo?

Earning straight 7’s from the judges, Marlee Matlin and pro Fabian Sanchez nabbed the lowest score of the night with a mambo that Len Goodman said was “off.” So who was on? Everyone else!

• A gyrating Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska cha-cha-cha’d to a solid 24.

• Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough kept the chemistry flowing — as well as the are-they-or-aren’t-they rumors — with a sweet rumba that earned a 24. (A beach segment showed her getting awfully close to his bare ripped chest … and remember this kiss?)

• Cristian de la Fuente and Cheryl Burke did a little happy dance after earning straight 9’s in their best showing of the season, thanks to a nearly flawless and completely elegant foxtrot (nevermind Cheryl’s poufy pink feather gown!).

• Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani followed with their own personal coup, finally netting 9’s for a Viennese waltz! The big numbers came from judges Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba, while Len held back with an 8 — though he said Marissa looked like a “princess” on the dancefloor.

• Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas’s hoppin’ jive brought Carrie to her feet and nabbed a 30 — the highest possible score, with 10’s from each judge.

• And just when it seemed like it couldn’t get any hotter, Mario and Karina Smirnoff’s sizzling rumba landed a 28 and had Carrie exclaiming, “That was better than good sex!”

I agree Kristi is an amazing dancer technically and I did say in an earlier post that she deserves to win. However, this show is not simply about technique. Granted that’s a lot of it, but this is also about performing, connecting with your partner and the audience and just flat out being entertaining. Kristi and Mark are technically brilliant, but I don’t feel a real connection between them (and no I don’t mean romance) and I don’t feel like she has a connection with the audience. Sorry but she does not have the spark of some of the previous champions and competitors. That being said, she is still the best this season, but only if you could combine her dance talent with Marissa’s personality and showmanship– then you would have the perfect dancer. And before anyone jumps on it, that is not a comment about looks or weight. I think Marissa looks great.

loved kristi and mark last night.

hated karina’s outfit…looked like a bedsheet

marlee and fabian, I think, had their last dance.

this season isn’t as exciting to me as previous, kind of sick of the “athletes” competing every season. I’d really like to see some “A” or “B” list celebrities on this show to shake things up a bit.

I really enjoy Marissa the best she is just so much fun to watch! I agree that Kristi is SO mega boring, whats so great about seeing her do the same each week its more fun to watch people struggle and then get better each week. That’s what makes the show what it is…its exciting to tune in and see how your fave will do this week but with her its the same ole every week. AND I TOTALLY agree that Samantha Harris needs to be replaced BRING BACK DREW!!!! I really wanted to smack her when she kept putting the mic in Marlee’s face the first few weeks, and the way she was pressing Shannon and Derek for info that had nothing to do with dancing GEEZ!!

I can’t imagine why anyone finds Kristi boring. She is sweet, a bit shy, dedicated, loving and a perfectionist. Ice skating is a world apart from dancing, and the only edge it gives her is that she had great athletic training. She consistently performs each and every dance to perfection, and is without a doubt, the best dancer this season. If you leave to get snacks during her performance, can you really judge her dancing fairly? I don’t miss a single performance by ANYONE. Snacks are gotten during commercials.

Marissa has personality plus, to be sure, and is doing a great job. She makes everyone happy (except my mother, who can’t stand her for some strange reason), but she won’t make the final cuts.

Jason is the one who is boring. Sorry, folks, but a handsome face and nice build does not make either a great personality or a great dancer. Lines? Yeah, he’s got ‘em. Looks fantastic in each still pose, arms outstretched and legs taut. But you have to be able to MOVE between the poses for it to be called a dance, and I’m sorry, he always looks awkward in motion.

Christian is the most improved, but not a natural dancer, and I don’t think he’ll be around at the finish.

Shannon has done some dances that were elegant and pleasant to watch…her great legs make her look fantastic. But she’s inconsistent, and even Derek’s fantastic choreography won’t keep her there much longer.

Marlee is a terrific actress (she most certainly does have a fan base, and not just from Hallmark movies), but I think she has gone about as far as she can. She’s been amazing, but from here on out, she will probably have more and more trouble keeping up…IF she survives tonight, which I don’t think she should. She’s going downhill instead of up, so it’s probably her time to go.

Mario has performed inconsistently, but has such a great musicality that he’s a pleasure to watch. I honestly think he’s capable of being there at the end if he can continue to improve.

No, this season is NOT the best (and I’ve noticed that the judges haven’t ONCE proclaimed that it was “the best season ever” as they usually do each time). But there have been some funny and interesting people to watch, and with stellar performances like Kristi’s to keep those of us who love to see perfection happy, it has been pretty good overall.

Now if Maksim would just come back, it would really be fantastic! When they do the special event in two weeks, not only will we finally get to see him again, but Apolo Ohno (my favorite contestant of all time), too! That promises to be some show!

And I LOVE watching the little kids dance on Tuesdays. Makes me feel good all over!
