Marlee Matlin Signs Off from Dancing

April 23, 2008

Even with the mambo king Fabian Sanchez as her partner, the mambo turned out to be Marlee Matlin’s last dance.

As the sixth contestant to leave this season, Matlin delivered a final farewell on Tuesday’s results show with as much heart as she put into her performances.

With the audience and the judges on their feet, Matlin signed, “All I can say is thank you to the judges. … I want to thank the magnificent Fabian for giving me the most beautiful art of dance in my life.”

The 42-year-old actress also gave a special shout-out to pal Henry Winkler for “his support throughout the years.” (The Fonz made a special appearance during Matlin and Sanchez’s dance rehearsal on Monday’s show.)

Matlin, who was consistently praised by the judges (even bringing Carrie Ann Inaba to tears with her elegant Viennese waltz) received the lowest scores Monday night with 21 out of 30 for her mambo, which judge Len Goodman described as being “off.”

Still, she clearly scored with the crowd and her Dancing peers. Even Tom Bergeron praised Matlin: “Marlee and I have known each other for years, and I want to step outside the host role for a moment and tell you as a friend I’m so proud of you.”

Tell us: Are you sad to see Marlee go? Were you surprised to see Mario & Karina in the bottom two? And what did you make of Shannon & Derek’s videotaped outburst?

I THOUGHT SHE DID A AMAZING JOB!! \

WE WILL MISS SEEING YOU SMILE ON DWTS

GOOD LUCK MARLEE!!!:)

Diane April 23rd, 2008

Is it just me or does anyone else wish they would stop with the “filler” stuff throughout the show and give the couples going off more than 45 seconds to say goodbye? Didn’t they used to do a “replay” of their past performances before they go? Bring that back instead of the mini-pro dancers.

Well Done!:)

I will miss her dearly. She definitely made it through longer than a lot of people have expected, but she has such elegance and grace that no one could even remember that she is deaf. Way to go, Marlee, and Fabian—fantastic job!

And Diane, I love those young dancers dancing! This is a dancing show…they should cut out people like Ashlee Simpson performing. We don’t need “Singers”.

Aw, I’m sorry to hear that Marlee Matlin & Fabian Sanchez were eliminated last night on DWTS, 4/23! I wish her & Fabian all the best in their respective future endeavors, whatever they may be!? Good luck to the remaining DWTS contestnants!

May the best team win!

I thought she was awesome and did an amazing job

I think that although the decision was hard, the decision was fair. The last two dances Marlee struggled with keeping up and the point of the show is professional dancing. I say this with the uttmost respect for the fact that as a deaf woman Marlee was never intimidated by the fact that she couldn’t hear the music and gave it her all. I think Shannon and Derek’s outbursts should seal the deal of their hopefully impending departure from the show.
