DWTS’ Cristian de la Fuente Injured on Dancefloor

April 28, 2008

Cristian de la Fuente’s samba came to halt Monday night — and the Chilean soap star was sent to the hospital — after suffering a severe muscle cramp in his arm on the Dancing with the Stars dancefloor.

“It hurts,” de la Fuente told cohost Samantha Harris backstage, holding an ice pack to his left forearm. “It hurts the arm and it hurts that I couldn’t do it, you know, it’s tough.”

Still, he put on a strong showing. Seconds after hurting himself, the actor faced the judges, insisting “I’m fine,” and clutched his arm in obvious pain before going to commercial break. During the dance he had tried to shake off the injury, but he pulled back from lifting his pro partner Cheryl Burke off the floor.

“When we were dancing I fell back into his arms and I heard something crack,” Burke told PEOPLE between tears after the show. “I am so worried. He is not a wuss. He tried to finish the dance.”

The EMT on site diagnosed a “severe muscle cramp,” cohost Tom Bergeron told the audience.

Meanwhile, the judges, who gave the couple straight 7’s (21/30) for their performance, had encouraging words. “I really appreciate you went the whole round and you were there for Cheryl,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said, while Bruno Tonioli told him: “I hope you’re coming back because you are a great performer.” –with reporting by Monica Rizzo

I just saw the episode tonight and felt really bad for Christian. It seems like he was doing so great in rehearsals and I was looking forward to seeing both of his dances. This is unfortunate for him but hopefully the viewers at home will vote and give him another chance!
Good luck Christian. Hope you feel better soon!
We love you!

I’ve liked Cheryl from the 2nd season when I started watching. She’s always been one of my favorites. This season, their team is not who I am voting for… however I still think the judges screwed them over w/ a 21. Carrie Ann said you judge up to the injury. Well up to the injury, their dance was really good. They should have had 8’s.

CARRIE ANN DOESN’T GIVE ANYBODY A BREAK AND I HOPE THEY HAVE ENOUGH VOTES TO BE BACK NEXT WEEK TO DO A GREAT JOB!!!! HE REALLY DID TRY HIS BEST AND THANKFULLY CHERYL DIDN’T GET HURT BY HIM TRYING TO LIFT HER DESPITE HIS INJURY. GOOD JOB TO BOTH OF THEM AND BEST OF LUCK!!!!

L,

I agree. I think the judges really screwed them over. They may not be the best over all but I hope they don’t go home over it(unless he actually can’t continue).

He is a serious wuss… he can’t dance and is using this “injury” as an excuse

claudia April 28th, 2008

I know Christian is not the strongest competitor but he is doing his best. I hope he comes back next week.
¡Echale ganas Christian!

I think Cristian & Cheryl were dancing well up until the injury. 7s were definitely way too low of scores for this dance. Cheryl’s been one of my favorite dancers since she won with Drew in season 2. I hope Cristian is okay and that they are both able to return to the show.

Go Cristian & Cheryl!!!!!!!!!
