Cristian de la Fuente’s Injury ‘Being Evaluated’

April 29, 2008

Actor Cristian de la Fuente, who suffered an injury to his left arm on Monday night’s Dancing with the Stars, is being evaluated by a physician this morning, his rep Cynthia Snyder tells PEOPLE.

Whether he returns to the show will remain a mystery for a few more hours. At the request of producer Conrad Green, all cast and crew have been asked not to discuss de la Fuente’s condition, Snyder says. Instead, Dancing host Tom Bergeron will update viewers on his prognosis on tonight’s live results show.

The soap opera-like suspense adds to the real-life drama viewers witnessed last night. De la Fuente experienced extreme pain in his left arm while performing the samba with partner Cheryl Burke on Monday’s live telecast.

During the long commercial break following his injury, de la Fuente was doubled over, clutching his left arm. EMTs packed his arm in ice and he appeared on-air again briefly to receive the judges’ scores for his performance. Minutes after that, de la Fuente was taken to Cedars Sinai Hospital for evaluation and was released at approximately 7:30 p.m., his rep says.

Dancer Edyta Sliwinska was upset that de la Fuente tried to continue dancing while in pain, and that the whole ordeal was captured by the show’s cameras.

“I thought if he wasn’t able to finish the dance he must be seriously hurting so I thought someone should just take him,” Sliwinska said. “Why do they keep filming it and keep him on the floor? I just thought that was wrong.”

She and all of de la Fuente’s fellow competitors are rooting for his return.

“He’s doing so well and we don’t want to see a competitor leave because of an injury like that,” Kristi Yamaguchi said. “He’s had military training. I think he’s pretty tough so I’m sure if it’s in his power to be back, he’ll be back”.

“He and I have become kindred spirits,” Marissa Jaret Winokur says. “I don’t think any of us really cares about scores. We just want him to come back.” –Monica Rizzo

It definitely happened during one of his best dances. My prayers are with him, although Cheryl is one of my least favorite pro dancers!

I hope he is ok, and it is nothing too serious whether he returns or not. And as for Edyta’s comments, I understand what she is saying but I am sure if it were extremely horrible, he would have stopped, and stopped Cheryl. I would hope anyway. Get better Cristian, you are fun to watch.

Both my husband and I watched the show (by the way we like the show!), and did witness the whole senerio. I agreed with Edytas that they should stop filming and taking care of him, but that is how show business goes. We did vote for him and Cheryl. If he is able to come back without causing further damage to his arm. We like to see him performs again. Good luck Cristian, and take care.

I hope Christian can come back. What bothers me are the judges inconsistent scoring. How they can give Marisa 9’s is mindboggling, considering her routines are simple and uninspiring compared to the other dancers

I hope it’s not as serious as it looks and he and cheryl can continue to dance. Those 2 are one of my fav couples.

We LOVE Christian….and of course Dancing with the Stars!!! We hope Christian is able to continue on to next week. We want to add that we hope to see Emmitt Smith on the Reunion Show coming soon!!!!

hope de la fuente gets better, he’s one good dancer to watch. does mr. len the judge have a different set of standard in judging kristi yamaguchi? seems his standard for her is way high than the other compititors. it seems it is not fair just because she can move and have the body of a dancer, just wondering…….

I think Cristian certainly earned more than a 7 from the judges (before he had started having problems) He was freaking HOT during the first part of the dance. I am not an expert but what he did do should have been more like an 8 or even 9. He was giving that dance everthing he could, until the mishap. I just don’t agree with their score at all!!
Get better Cristian, hope the voters put you through for another week and hope you will be able to come back. Shannon is the one that NEEDS TO GO!!!! She lookslike ‘dead lice falling off a dog’ every dance she has TRIED to perform!!! The night she danced and then had to SIT on the floor?? Come on, if you can’t stand the heat, you don’t need to be in the kitchen!!!!

Could it have been from lifting that hippo Cheryl Burke in the air?
