Ellen, Regis & Kelly, View Cast Race for Emmy

April 30, 2008

Ellen DeGeneres, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, as well as the women of The View are in the running for the honor as top TV host in the Daytime Emmy race, which was launched Thursday morning with an announcement on The View.

DeGeneres, of course, stars on Ellen, while Philbin and Ripa headline Live!

“Why does the industry like Ellen more than us?” plaintively asked Joy Behar, who, along with colleagues Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd saw her ABC program also nominated for best daytime entertainment show, along with the usual winner, Ellen, and The Rachael Ray Show.

Noting how DeGeneres’s being “nice” seems to appeal to the TV academy’s voters, Behar said of The View. “We’re a very controversial show. We disagree … we’re not a cakewalk.”

In the category of informative talk shows, the nominees are PBS’s A Place of Our Own and the syndicated Dr. Phil and The Tyra Banks Show. Coincidentally, Banks happened to be a guest on Thursday’s View, and waved her arms backstage when her nomination was announced.

When it comes to outstanding daytime dramas, the contenders are General Hospital, Guiding Light, One Life to Live and The Young and the Restless — leaving As the World Turns and The Bold and the Beautiful out in the cold … until, possibly, next year.

I can’t believe Tony Geary was the only actor from General Hospital to get a nomination. That is WRONG! There were so many deserving actors this year on that show.

sasha April 30th, 2008

I’m so happy one life to live is nominated!! I love that show!

Christine April 30th, 2008

I can’t believe how ROBBED General Hospital was! Their actors are always at the top of their game, and not to be given their praise by the Academy is just wrong.

Becky April 30th, 2008

You mentioned that only two soaps were left out of the best show category, what about Days of Our Lives. May be the only soap on NBC, but no reason to over look it.

Nina April 30th, 2008

Well, All My Children didn’t fair very well in the nominations. Only 1 acting nomination. As for Regis and Kelly and The View, they can both skip the show. Everyone knows that Ellen will win once again. Maybe it’s time for her to take her show out of the running.

Yeah but General Hospital SUCKS as a show. their writing is the crappiest crap out there.

the actors are really good and should have been nominated, but the writing stinks.

The reason that “the industry” likes Ellen more than The View is simple … Joy Behar isn’t on Ellen. She is super obnoxious and overly annoying!

I like AMC more then GH right now. The actors and actresses are very good and I’m liking that they are finally having sexy stories for older woman. Although there needs to be more of that!
BUT, they need to bring back love stories and other stories that are NOT about the stupid MOB! Enough already! And bring back my Brenda!

I <3 One Life to Live that’s all I have to say!
