Paula Abdul: Last Night’s Idol Blunder an ‘Honest Mistake’

Paula Abdul says she and her fellow American Idol judges were thrown a “curveball” Tuesday night when they were asked to quickly sum up first half of the show — after originally being told they’d critique the contestants at the end.

Calling into Idol host Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM show Wednesday morning, Abdul said her strange response to Jason Castro’s performance was an “honest mistake.” Abdul admits she’d written notes on both Castro and another performer on the same card, and in the end, was simply “confused” as she gave her feedback.

“In seven years we’ve never had to do that,” she told Seacrest of the format change, adding, “We were only following directions.”–Jackie Fields

Come on people. We all know they do dress rehearsals. She had already heard Jason’s second song and commented on it. So she made a mistake. Big deal. Jason’s my favorite, but unfortuantely she was right. Give her a freakin break. Without her on the show we would have nothing to talk about.

Then why did Paula say ” I thought he (Jason) sang twice?”…Duh?…obviously she wouldn’t have said that if she actually thought he did.
By her saying she was reading both of her notes on one card is simply a lie on her part.

It sounded to me like she had already made notes at the dress rehearsal, and then just “zoned out” and forgot that the 2nd song hadn’t been performed live yet.

I think something is wrong with Paula. Some days she looks a bit lost. And, I am quite sure she won’t like it if she reads this, but she needs professional medical help. Randy and Simon have had to cover for her way too many times.

Next season, ask Marie Osmond to be a judge. I like her!

Simon once said they listen to them during dress rehearsals because they really can” hear that well with the audience. Most of their comments are derived from the rehearsals. However- Paula still screwed up. Does she ever NOT babble?

Her excuse on air last night was that she read her notes on David Cook, yet she went on to call him “fantastic.” So, this blows her excuse to bits. I’d respect the show if they would all just own up to it. It’s pretty obvious to everyone what REALLY happened last night.

Okay, seriously? That’s the best she can do? She said second song! I can’t remember exactly, but I believe she said second song a few times. You can’t pretend like you were commenting on someone else’s song when you said it was Jason’s second song. Whatever, Paula.

Gimme a break - she knew what she was going to say before anyone ever sang. 90% of the judge’s comments are designed to influence voting rather than being their own honest opinions.
They might have loved a certain performance, but bash it anyway becaus the contestant is doing too good. Or another is in danger of being voted off, so they praise their performance as the ‘best that night’.

Her explanation still makes no sense! If she was really confused and reading her comments about David Cook, then how do you explain how she went on to say that she loved David’s song?? It doesn’t add up, and she needs to stop trying to explain it away!

why is everybody picking on her. she is human like the rest of us. is she not allowed to make mistakes like us or is everybody here perfect?
