Idol: Brooke White Says Goodbye

May 1, 2008

Brooke White, the willowy 24-year-old from Mesa, Ariz., was sent home Wednesday night. But with so few left, it wasn’t a huge shock. The judges seemed consistently iffy about Brooke’s folk-pop style in recent weeks, with Simon Cowell actually describing one of her Neil Diamond performances Tuesday as “a nightmare.”

Paired in the bottom two with Syesha Mercado, Brooke said at one point that she was in “that happy, grateful mood” no matter what happened. But the results at the end of the hour brought on some heavy tears from the contestant who has cried consistently on results nights throughout the competition.

The bigger shock came at the very beginning of the show when Ryan Seacrest informed Jason Castro that he was safe, despite a week that could best be described as tepid. It’s the dreadlocks, isn’t it? And that cute look of bafflement and naiveté? And maybe a public vote of sympathy after Paula Abdul’s strange double judgment of his single performance the night before.

But there were several happy surprises to pad out the cruel hour.

First Happy Surprise: Guest vocalist Natasha Bedingfield gave David Archuleta a big ol’ hug and a kiss. (Ryan joked that David might ask her to the prom.)

Second Happy Surprise: One of the night’s call-in questioners turned out to be a woman named Tara Miller, who kissed 9-year-old Simon back when they were growing up in England. Do you know her?

Third Happy Surprise: Mr. Neil Diamond himself. Despite looking like an old sailor, he was in fine, gravelly form singing his new single, “Pretty Amazing Grace.” –Tom Gliatto

Tell us: Did America make the right decision in sending Brooke home? Will you miss her?

Davids gonna win solely basted on his little boy charm, not the best simger, and as for the other boy….no thanks.

I am sorry to see Brooke go, she was finally starting to grow on me. What I can’t understand is why Jason keeps slipping through. I wish the screaming girl fans would remember that this is a singing competetion, not a “who is the cutest contest”

It should be a double David final if we are voting on pure talent. If that is the case, David Cook should be the winner but I have a feeling the screaming girls mean we are looking at David A. as the next American Idol.

I agree with Chawk. I think people are voting for Jason to give him another chance to perform like he did in Over the Rainbow and Hallelujuh. I think it just might be David A. and Jason in the final two. David Cook doesn’t have the fan base like they do.

FINALLY!!!! Brooke went home, after her nightmare performance the other night, after 9 words to a song from Evita. That girl sucked BIG TIME. She isn’t the best on AI……..The 2 david’s are and jason well he kinda stinks too…….And miss syesha, sorry girl but you need to go home too. SEE YA!!!!!

Did Brooke really think she was ‘that’ good??? My ears are still bleeding. She had a few good songs throughout the competition but this week, she had to go. And Jason should have been in the bottom two as well. He’s a consisten train wreck. The country gets in an uproar when women are put on a pedestal because of their looks and lack of talent (think, gulp, Paris) so why is he still in the competition?

I CANT BELIEVE SEYESHIA IS STILL ON THE SHOW

roz May 1st, 2008

Jason should have gone before Brooke. If people would just vote on talent and not looks the show would be sooooo much better. Really, Jason does not belong on this show anymore!

I think we all know why Syesha is still on the show and it has nothing to do with her talent. Such a shame b/c she’s not that good but she’s making it through b/c of her color. Won’t surprise me if she makes the finals.

I know I will get bashed for my statement but I know I’m not the only one that feels this way….I just happen to be the only one that isn’t afraid to voice their opinion.

Good luck to David Cook!!!!!!!!

I am so glad that Brooke was finally sent home. I was tired of her “poutiness” and her “mouth.” She was always full of bounce-backs for the judges, and questioned everything. :D
