Yes Cook deserved to win, he has more star quality. And yes Simon has acid tongue. I think though that he has mellowed just a tad. It is funny he seems to really appreciate the genteel, sweet and lady like contestants, whilst on the same hand he is so coarse. What a contradiction. But know what, I like him anyway. I believe he confuses sacasm and a biting tongue with constructive criticism, and if I was a contestant and he picked on me meanly I would tell him just that very thing.
