In a third blindside in a row, Alexis Jones, 24, a motivational speaker from Beverly Hills, Calif., was eliminated when Amanda played her hidden immunity idol on Thursday’s episode of Survivor: Micronesia. Already sitting on the jury, James Clement, the gravedigger from Lafayette, La., also left the game when his injured finger risked infecting his joint, which could lead to the loss of his hand.
The reward challenge was the infamous “What the Tribe Thinks” question-and-answer game. First, everyone took a written survey and then answered questions out loud about how the group responded as a whole. The more correct answers a player got, the more chances to knock out another player. The winner of the challenge would get to send someone to Exile Island and take a visiting loved one to swim in Jellyfish Lake. Cirie, who seemed to know the most what other tribe members were thinking, was the last person able to knock someone out of the game and picked Alexis to win and sent Amanda into exile.
After the challenge, the medical team reevaluated James’s hand and strongly urged him to leave the game. James chose to go to the hospital but said, “I’d much rather get voted out.”
While the reward winners basked in a lake filled with pink, non-stinging jellyfish, Amanda discovered all the clues on Exile Island and realized the hidden immunity idol was back at camp.
In strategy talks, Parvati revealed to the girls that she would never vote Amanda off because of their friendship while also asking Alexis if she was strong enough to continue in the game. All agreed they hoped Erik would lose the next challenge in order to keep their all-girl alliance together.
But at the immunity challenge, in which the contestants shot sake bottles hanging on a wall, Erik was the only one who shot the correct bottle three rounds in a row and grabbed the immunity necklace. At Dabu, Amanda made a big show of opening her bag to reveal she had not found the idol on Exile, but later told Parvati that she knew where it was. Parvati told her to get it because Amanda was the next vote. Before leaving for tribal council, with the group huddled at the cave, a suspicious Alexis asked where Amanda was and Parvati covered for her by telling the group that she sent off Amanda to the water to wash her smelly pits.
At tribal council, the existing jury got its first surprise when a heavily bandaged James joined them. Then the remaining group told Jeff that they were voting for Amanda because of her ties to the jury and that they feared her strength in challenges even though they loved her as a person. Amanda held a pouty, defeated look throughout, saying she didn’t find the idol on Exile Island. But after the votes were cast and Jeff asked if anyone had the hidden immunity idol, Amanda stood straight up and said, “About that, Jeff, I just want to say, when I told you all I didn’t have it, I didn’t have it then. So I didn’t lie. I got it!” With gleeful faces on the jury and stunned expressions among the Dabu team, the first four votes against Amanda were stricken from the books and the final two votes for Alexis sent her packing. –Cynthia Wang
