The Hills’ Whitney Port Defends Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus may be too young for The Hills, but she’s got a supporter on the MTV show.

“She was probably just swept up in the moment and didn’t realize what she was getting into,” Whitney Port told PEOPLE at Thursday’s Lupus L.A. Orange Ball in Beverly Hills, of Cyrus’s controversialVanity Fair photos. “I can understand how she’s a little bit wary about it.”

Port, who has worked in fashion magazines as well as PR, calls iconic photographer Annie Leibovitz “amazing” – but admits the photos may be a little extreme.

“I think for 15-year-olds, to some people, they’re probably a little inappropriate,” Port, 23, says.

Since the photo controversy began last week, stars have come to Cyrus’s defense, including Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna and Tyra Banks.

Add to that list Cyrus’s Disney Channel peer Phill Lewis, who plays Mr. Moseby on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.

“She’s a great kid,” Lewis says. “It’s a tough business. These kids grow up really quickly. If they’re not watched over and handled correctly, things can get out of hand … I hope everything works out for her.” –Nicholas White

and she is old enough to know better … and like every other little girl out there - with common sense would have known to say NO. I am not comfortable with taking my top off, I am too young to have my picture taken in that manner, especially since I’m making top dollar on a Disney channel that targets pretweens. The answer is no, I don’t care who you are - you don’t sign my paycheck -

why is everbody making a big deal over a picture that miley cyrus did who cares it’s just a picture no big thing time to move on and give it a break tired of hearing it on tv. she just like us everbody makes a mistake. it’s not like she did a bad thing.

Miley was exploited by Annie Leibovitz. Ms. Leibovitz used her position in photography and exploited a child. Stripping a child, partially covering her with a sheet, touching her, positioning her is getting into the pedophile area. Ms. Leibovitz is gay and she should not have done that to that girl. Shame on you Annie Leibovitz!

It is not a mistake when Adults let a young child, sit in a chair or on a bed - half naked - looking like she just had a romp in the hay.
Why is that the excuse you lame brained losers use- she made a mistake?
Do you have children Crystal or are you a child? I’d say the latter from your poor grammer and use of punctuation.

I think you should go hard on here because if you dont she’ll think it would be okay for her to do it agian. I mean 15 act your age dont be like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spear your headed on the same road as them stayy grounded and stay home for a while like if i were miley i would never got into this i would have never done it the shot would be over if they told me to take off my clothes

first off: when i was 15, i was not dumb enough to take my top off for some stupid “artistic” photo. second of all, thats not the photo that is the weirdest to me. TONS of young hollywood stars take suggestive pictures, but the photos of her laying all over her dad are a bit over the top. i want to know why no one on the entire set thought that these pictures were weird looking. the whole “i just woke up from having sex” look was a little weird but the whole “i want to make out with my dad” look was TOTALLY over the top.
all in all.. it was really weird.
plus, i’m sick of hearing “it was a mistake” and “i’m embarrassed” she said the exact same thing last time those pictures came out with her suggestive pictures and laying all over that guy.
