Idol: Jason Castro Waves Goodbye

May 8, 2008

The dreaded moment has finally arrived for Jason Castro.

The 21-year-old singer from Texas was the first of American Idol’s final four to be cut from the competition.

David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado and David Cook will continue on their quest to be the next American Idol, which includes hometown visits next week, before the show’s finale on May 21.

Castro couldn’t have been too surprised after Tuesday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performances. First, he sang Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff,” which Randy Jackson said sounded “really karaoke.” Simon Cowell called it “utterly atrocious.”

For his second song, Castro attempted Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man,” but forgot the lyrics. Simon told him, “I’d pack your bags.”

Backstage, Castro seemed disappointed. “I don’t know what happened,” he said with a nervous smirk. “Everything just got all off.”

Syesha joined him in the bottom two Wednesday and Ryan Seacrest asked them both about the previous night. “It’s just getting tough for me. I think my inexperience is coming in,” Castro said. “This week I tried to pick two [songs] I knew and even that, I screwed it up.”

But despite ending his run on Idol, Castro showed his laidback sense of humor and that spacey charm that made him so likable: “Somebody told me I shot the ‘Tambourine Man’ yesterday.”

Tell us: Did American make the right decision in sending Jason Castro home?

I think he will do well with an album. but in this big of a competition, he doesn’t cut it. I like him for him, though, and I love his personality!

Yes…America got it right and it wasn’t due to his performance the night before. Someone has to go every week and it is just a process to the two David’s for the final. Both are great. That’s going to be a difficult vote.

Ok, First of all Jason should of gone to the final two. Syesha, although she has gotten better is not a cd artist…she is a broadway artist.

David A. needs to get off the show. Even though he has good tone, he is nothing more than a good guy from a high school show choir. You won’t turn on the radio and listen to his song rather than listen to David C.’s or Jason’s.

Jason C….he is the Jack Johnson of the American Idol season this year. Saying he was immature and made the show look horrible. It actually gave the show something for people to look forward too!

David C…Ok, I will say that this is the man that is going to win. He has everything from showmanship to singing abilities to making the song his own.

I am no longer watching this show until the finale!

I liked Jason. I don’t understand his dreadful hair.My vote now goes to David Cook.

I don’t think Syesha pulled any race or gender card. She was just in the moment.

And about time for Jason leaving! Ha, “spacey charm”. Yeah that’s one way of wording it.

I think what Syesha forgot is there are actually 3 people in the running for President, not just those 2. She’s really annoying, with her fake smile. I can’t wait to see her go next week! Carly, Michael, & Chikezie were much more talented & entertaining than her.

Yes,America made the right decision. It suprised me that he lasted this long.

I will miss Jason. Hope he will cut a great cd, I’ll be looking for it. With music he gets to have some control over… and not one of the abominable songs that the top two have to release and sing everywhere they go till you wanna just… well, never mind that. Good luck to you Jason. (maybe work on some interview skills in your spare time?)
I’m not very invested in the remaining three… but wish everyone good luck.
