Idol: Jason Castro Waves Goodbye

May 8, 2008

The dreaded moment has finally arrived for Jason Castro.

The 21-year-old singer from Texas was the first of American Idol’s final four to be cut from the competition.

David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado and David Cook will continue on their quest to be the next American Idol, which includes hometown visits next week, before the show’s finale on May 21.

Castro couldn’t have been too surprised after Tuesday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performances. First, he sang Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff,” which Randy Jackson said sounded “really karaoke.” Simon Cowell called it “utterly atrocious.”

For his second song, Castro attempted Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man,” but forgot the lyrics. Simon told him, “I’d pack your bags.”

Backstage, Castro seemed disappointed. “I don’t know what happened,” he said with a nervous smirk. “Everything just got all off.”

Syesha joined him in the bottom two Wednesday and Ryan Seacrest asked them both about the previous night. “It’s just getting tough for me. I think my inexperience is coming in,” Castro said. “This week I tried to pick two [songs] I knew and even that, I screwed it up.”

But despite ending his run on Idol, Castro showed his laidback sense of humor and that spacey charm that made him so likable: “Somebody told me I shot the ‘Tambourine Man’ yesterday.”

Tell us: Did American make the right decision in sending Jason Castro home?

He needed to go weeks ago. Syesha too. The final three should have been Michael Johns and the Davids.

OMG I LOVE JASON!!! Im so sad that he went home last night. Even though he forgot the words. I still love him. But I hate that David Archuletta guy. If he wins i would be soooo damn mad. But i will still get to see Jason again because he has a concert in Philly.

Thank GOD he’s gone. If Syesha is in the top 2 finalists I won’t watcht the show!

It was time for Jason to go.. And I think he’s the most original of them all. I will get anything he sings. I just love his voice and his style. I also think he is the most marketable of them all.

Syesha will do great on Broadway. She’s got a huge talent.
David Cook is awesome and my favorite to win.
I can’t stand David A. Yuck and not marketable for anything.

The judges are so biased for that kid it’s not funny. What gives with that?

Doesn’t matter who wins now anyway. They all have recording contracts.

I feel like Sayesha is a great singer and has been undeserving of the reviews of the jusges. I think she has a great future ahead of her.

TSIC May 8th, 2008

For one, Syesha was not “kept” for any reason, especially since the voters determine that. Plus, if you’re a girl, haven’t you ever cried before when someone else starts crying as they’re talking to you — like Paula was doing when she was talking to Syesha? Like Syesha said, she was truly moved by how emotional Paula became when she stood up, clapped for her and told her she was living her dream. I totally understand how that could make her cry — it struck a chord with her. Plus, these kids are under a tremendous amount of stress. David A. nearly passes out every time he’s waiting for the judges remarks, but I don’t see anyone doubting his sincerity? I think this is a great top 3. Jason Castro went home because he deserved to go — He completely blew the performances Tuesday night.

I just hope one of the David’s win, I think Syesha just floated her way throught the competition.

Jason should have been gone weeks ago!! He has been the least talented performer since he made the top ten.

He should have been voted off weeks ago. Yes he seems like a funny guy but this is a singing competition. He and Brooke were the worst singers left vocally. Syesha didn’t pull the race card as carmen said. They asked her why she was crying and she explained what the song meant to her.If you researched the song that she was singing and listened to the original version by Sam Cooke you would see why she made the comments about civil rights movement and what the song meant to her coming this far in the competition and how she has grown. Paula’s comments touched her considering how far she has come in the competition and the recognition she received. Research the talented singer/ songwriter, of the song, Sam Cooke and why he wrote it. Syesha’s tears were genuine and they weren’t a ploy. The girl is talented and she deserves to be in the top three.

This show is supposed to be talent oriented but popular vote runs this misguided show. And yes the one note wonder Mr. Monotone should have gone long ago based on his lack of talent. Cute only goes so far.
