Chloe Lattanzi has improved tremendously as an artist on MTV’s Rock the Cradle, but as the series heads into tonight’s finale (MTV, May 8, at 10 p.m. ET/PT), uber-judge Larry Rudolph is hoping that she’s not standing in the winner’s circle.
“She’s so much better because of this show — win, lose or draw,” says Rudolph of Olivia Newton-John’s now-famous daughter. “But I don’t think she should win.”
The voting will be up to the viewers of the talent competition that pits rock star offspring against each other. But Rudolph believes that it should come down to the other two finalists: Crosby Loggins, the son of Kenny Loggins, or Jesse Snider, son of Dee Snider.
“I would be okay with either one of them,” says Rudolph. “If Chloe wins, it’s probably for the wrong reasons.”
But he’s not counting her out–or underestimating her massive fan base. And Chloe’s recent public revelations about her eating disorder and struggles with depression could garner her the sympathy vote.
“Chloe is the dark horse,” he says. “She could win it. She has a legion of…younger female fans who go right to the younger MTV demographic. They have their issues as she does and can sympathize with her. They understand her.”
The winner of the competition receives $100,000 and a record deal with Jive records.
While MTV has still not officially decided whether the show will be back after this first season, Rudolph assure viewers that they are plenty of potential contestants for future seasons. “Think about all the rock stars from the ’70s and ’80s,” he said. “They have more kids than they probably know about. There are kids all over the place. Kids with multiple wives and girlfriends. We have lists.” –Bryan Alexander
