David Archuleta’s Father Banned from Idol Backstage

Finalist David Archuleta will have to finish his American Idol journey without the hands-on support from his father, Jeff: The elder Archuleta had his backstage access revoked, the Associated Press reports, citing a source on the show.

Accused of disrupting production, Jeff Archuleta is being accused of overstepping his boundaries when he wanted David, 17, to alter his “Stand By Me” performance by adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s 2007 summer hit “Beautiful Girls.”

According to TMZ, which first reported the story on Friday, unnamed show sources said Jeff ignored the producers’ objections, which created problems with the song’s publisher.

Jeff Archuleta was unavailable for comment, but a friend of the family tells PEOPLE he saw no problems, and added that the reports are “getting tiring.”

Despite being banned backstage, Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show, according to the reports.

Thats what he gets for being such a control freak stage dad. When I was watching David’s performance and it came to the part when he sang the line from “Beautiful Girls” I said to myself “Wait a minute why is that line in there?” I knew it was from “Beautiful Girls” so that was a little weird. I can’t believe that David’s dad also harassed the other contestants! I agree with you Stephanie, I am not a huge DA fan but it seems like he is under A LOT of pressure not just from the show but from his dad. I can just imagine what his dad will do if he wins. He will be making sure that any contracts his son gets are fair. That is why I keep saying that DA shouldn’t win and that he should let the better talent (David Cook) win.

David Archuleta’s dad is the sweetest guy i have ever met! i find it very hard to believe all these stupid rumors about him. They are definately not true!!! Just leave them all alone!

Ok first off. All of you who believe the rumours about his dad are all fickle. You guys have nothing better to do then to believe the media. So what if his dad got banned from backstage. He loves his son. Not once have i seen in all this time that david is afraid of his father. I grew up around the archuletas so stop MAKIN THINGS OUT TO BE WHAT THEY ARE NOT. GO DAVID! Seriously, nowadays some of the stuff like this the media prints has about much credibility as.. Paula Abdul (!). Besides, even if the stage dad thing is true, it has nothing to do with David and his amazing talent. He has one of the most pure voices I have ever heard and he will do fine with or without AI. Go David! I’ll be rooting for you during and after Idol.

I am glad the father got banned too. This kid is heck of a good singer. I say get emancipated and go out on your own. With a voice like that you can do anything. He is practically an adult anyway.

I had no idea about his father. David A. faces pressure enough without a father to please. No wonder he always looks so scared after a performance. I sure hope he will not let his father blow his future chances. The kid is truly amazing. When he sang Stand By Me, I was in tears. Sounded like an angel singing. It’s sad when people try and live their dreams through their children. And then of course, take the money.
