David Archuleta’s Father Banned from Idol Backstage

May 10, 2008

Finalist David Archuleta will have to finish his American Idol journey without the hands-on support from his father, Jeff: The elder Archuleta had his backstage access revoked, the Associated Press reports, citing a source on the show.

Accused of disrupting production, Jeff Archuleta is being accused of overstepping his boundaries when he wanted David, 17, to alter his “Stand By Me” performance by adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s 2007 summer hit “Beautiful Girls.”

According to TMZ, which first reported the story on Friday, unnamed show sources said Jeff ignored the producers’ objections, which created problems with the song’s publisher.

Jeff Archuleta was unavailable for comment, but a friend of the family tells PEOPLE he saw no problems, and added that the reports are “getting tiring.”

Despite being banned backstage, Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show, according to the reports.

What do they call it when a child leaves his parent’s legally “?” the “home alone” actor did this…I think Simon should step in and tell David to be strong..no wonder David looks like he is going to piss himself everytime he is done performing…where is his mother? is she being abused?? just a thought

For this reason with his Dad, he is very talented, but needs a little more experience and savy. Because he is too young, he has to have his Dad by his side and I do not feel he should win because he is too young and not “street savy”, as a child who will be on the road and in the music business. It is a tough business, but one filled with true professionals (like Randy Jackson) and they don’t need David’s Dad to tell them how to do their business. If he waits another two years, he can come back and be great….by himself.

first off this kid is not a “pop” singer. He sings like he belongs in a musical. if he wins hes going to be just like everyone else besides carrie underwood and kelly clarkson. forgotten and never heard from again. try to imagine him singing anything “pop” it wont sound good.

Davids father is a typical control freak looking to cash in on his son, sadly reminds me of Salinas controlling father, Brittanys father-etc- david will be 18 soon and hopefully will keep his father @ bay- so he dont take all of his pay,=- David dont need his fathers guidance, he is on top of the world- all by him self-

Every song he sings sounds the same, so why the problem in letting his dad stay backstage since there are no variations. He has a good voice, don’t get me wrong, but he lacks stage presence and teh ability to vary his performances. Stalemate.

If we are to believe TMZ, Simon Cowell said right after this story was posted that David’s dad has not been any trouble and has been perfectly nice all along. and Simon always speaks his mind on and off the show. So whos to say this is true?

His dad had to of done SOMETHING to get banned from the back stage and rehersals, that is a fact in this story. He wasn’t holding hands with everyone and singing “Kumbaya”, that’s for sure.

It is true, we really don’t know the whole story, even those that claim to know the family. No one knows what goes on behind closed doors. You may think you know, but bottom line you don’t. Abuse can happen in any home, whether it’s a home that is poor or a home that is rich or a home that appears to be normal. The cycle of abuse does not discriminate.

DAVID,,,KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. GOD WILL FIGHT FOR YOU AND WILL ALLOW THINGS TO GO AS HE SEES FIT. SOME FATHERS LIKE TO LIVE THROUGH THEIR KIDS. IF YOU FEEL THAT HE IS A NEGATIVE PART IN YOUR LIFE YOU HAVE TO PRAY ON THIS AND GOD WILL SEND YOU THE ANSWER. JUST LISTEN TO YOUR THOUGHTS THAT COME TO YOU. THIS IS GOD TALKING TO YOU.GOOD LUCK AND KNOW THAT I’M YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN! GOOD BLESS!

What is this? A boost by AI to get their ratings up?? how low they’ve sunk..

Jane May 10th, 2008

That dad is crazy. He is the epitome of “stage dad”. I’m glad he is banned because he controls his son like a puppeteer. It is sick.
