David Archuleta’s Father Banned from Idol Backstage

May 10, 2008

Finalist David Archuleta will have to finish his American Idol journey without the hands-on support from his father, Jeff: The elder Archuleta had his backstage access revoked, the Associated Press reports, citing a source on the show.

Accused of disrupting production, Jeff Archuleta is being accused of overstepping his boundaries when he wanted David, 17, to alter his “Stand By Me” performance by adding a verse from Sean Kingston’s 2007 summer hit “Beautiful Girls.”

According to TMZ, which first reported the story on Friday, unnamed show sources said Jeff ignored the producers’ objections, which created problems with the song’s publisher.

Jeff Archuleta was unavailable for comment, but a friend of the family tells PEOPLE he saw no problems, and added that the reports are “getting tiring.”

Despite being banned backstage, Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show, according to the reports.

It’s about time they banned him. His son is a good enough singer w/o his father running everything. Well see how he does this week. My fingers are crossed for him! :)

This is a good thing for Little David. Lots of people, including EW, have said that he’s terrified of his father, who not only takes over the arrangements without consulting him but also yells at him when he messes up. I’m rooting for Cookie but I hope Little David shines through to the finale.

David always looks so scared after his performances and I dont think its because of what the judges are going to say, but because he may be afraid of what his FATHER might do. Rumors have been flying around about this kids father for a long time. Maybe this week he will calm down a little.

NO one like his dad(Jeff Archuleta) anyway which will cost him to win the AI. The New American Idol according to all the polls is DAVID COOK !!

Ashley May 10th, 2008

I think this is a good thing for David. I think it will be a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. So now Archuleta can be whoever he want’s to be. Not whoever his dad wants him to be.

It’s about time. This Joe Simpson wannabe should have been banned a long time ago.

Oh great, another parent who are hungry for money from their own child. Of course his father wants to control him. It’s sad….real sad.

I don’t think this matter is that big of a deal. Media must running out of stories to run now since Britney and Lindsay are attempting to be on ‘good behavior’. Regardless, David A will do fine with or without his dad. He has a beautiful voice and a bright future ahead of him.

His father just may have blown it for him.Who
wants a stage father like that around????
Record labels will think twice before they deal with the father like that!!!

I feel sorry for David that he has to go home with this a–hole once the season is over. And lord help the crew if Daddy Dearest goes on the road for the tour.
