PEOPLE.com Readers Predict David Cook Will Win Idol

The winner won’t be announced until Wednesday night, but thousands of PEOPLE.com readers are crowning David Cook the next American Idol.

In a new PEOPLE.com poll, more than 60,000 readers weighed in and 66 percent predicted that the 25-year-old rocker would take the title despite the judges’ support of his competitor, David Archuleta, who grabbed 34 percent of the vote.

Regardless of who wins, one reader, Caroline, agrees with the judges who deemed this season the best yet. “We the viewers really got to see all the singers do their thing,” she says in a comment. And Kory agrees: “they both were excellent … Both will make it in the music industry.”

Other readers are sharing their favorites — and how many times they voted following Tuesday’s show.

“I voted 25 times for Mr. Cook,” says Nicole. “Hope it helped! Go DC!!!”

Samantha writes, “I hope David Archuleta wins. He is sincere and he has the TRUE TALENT! There are plenty of people that sound like David Cook out there. David A has a unique voice and a great personality. He deserves the title!!!!”

If this was a personality show, then Archueletta would win, but it’s not. It’s a singing compatition. Although they both have good voices, good looks and talent, you have to have stage performance. David A didn’t show any performance throughout this until last night. And most of all, he closes his eyes too much. Almost like he don’t want to look at anyone. Cook is more deserving of the title. Look at past years winners. Only 3 or 4 of them made themselves a big hit. The others got dropped by their record labels. Remember people, this is a SINGING comp, not a POPULARITY contest.

I gotta say…Cook is definately the better performer and artist!! Both David’s have great voices. But, David A. is boring to watch!! He puts me to sleep!! Go David Cook!!

David Cook has earned it more than David Archuleta! I think that David A. is very forgettable!Anyway, even if David Cook doesn’t win, he will still sell waaaaay more albums and be around alot longer than David A.!

Didn’t you see Simon wink at DC after performance #2? He didn’t want to give DC the “kiss of death praise” which sent several of the other contestants packing when it wasn’t their time. I think Simon’s comments will save DC.

I think that David Archuleta has been smug the whole time about winning. They both can sing well but I think that David Cook took more risks and shows way more versatility.

Am I the only 40-something person who voted the whole 4 hours last night, including while using he bathroom? I got in a total of 628 votes for David Cook. I think he seems like a sincere person, which is something Simon even said last night, and I love his singing. David A. is a cute little boy with a very good voice, and he very well may win, but as for record sales, Cook will win the day there.

David Cook definitely has more talent. I hope he wins! I don’t think it was fair that they FAVORED David A throughout the whole season.
