American Idol

Idol Winner David Cook Has ‘No Expectations’

May 22, 2008

After Ryan Seacrest announced Wednesday’s American Idol results — that David Cook had won by 12 million votes — the show’s newest winner, a bartender from Blue Springs, Mo., fulfilled his first duty as the American Idol: facing reporters. Backstage at the Nokia Theatre in L.A., Cook talked about getting a serious apology from Simon Cowell, beating 17-year-old David Archuleta and what it meant to have his mom and brother join him on the stage during his winning moment. –Jed Dreben

You won by 12 million votes but do you think it may have been more if Simon had apologized last night?
Well, Simon’s apology came a little bit late for the votes but I don’t really know that the apology was warranted. I thought what he said was an opinion and nothing more. But at no point did I feel disrespected. But, yeah, I’m appreciative of that fact that he decided to apologize. An apology from Simon is a pretty rare gem.

What do you expect from the year ahead?
I actually walked into this with no expectations and I’m walking out of it with no expectations. This show is a springboard, but it’s still a crapshoot. I could easily walk out of this arena and be just a regular Joe tomorrow. I hope that’s not the case. It’s kind of up to everybody else.

What went through you mind when you heard that you had won?
That my music teacher Mrs. Gentry made me sing in a Christmas pageant in second grade, and now I’m here. The ride has been pretty, pretty nuts. You know you couldn’t write this … or maybe you can, I don’t know maybe you guys can. But I can’t.

Did you think you were going to win?
I didn’t. You know, the respect that I have for David Archuleta is very much past a competitor thing. He has more talent at his age than I know what to do with at 25. So, to be able to share the stage with him was an honor for me. And I went into Tuesday just to have fun, and so the fact that I walk out of here as the next American Idol is not a testament to me so much as it’s a testament to the other 23 contestants we had this season, and to everybody behind the scenes.

What kind of album do you want to make?
A good one — that’s the kind of record I want to make.

How did it feel having your brother Andrew and your mom on the stage with you at the end?
It just made the whole experience full circle. In August, I stood in line in Omaha, Neb., at 5:30 a.m. when it was raining with no intention of auditioning and now I’m here and I got to share that moment with the same two people I stood in line with 7, 8 months ago, so, it was a nice bookend.

Noelle Whittake May 22nd, 2008

Dream Big DC! I am so happy that you took the Idol Title! I can’t wait to buy your first album. I’ve already got your iTunes studio versions! Listen to them all the time.

Best Idol Season Ever!

Jenny May 22nd, 2008

It’s about time someone who is so diverse with his song choices won American Idol. I can’t believe everyone thought David A. was better. All his songs sound exactly the same, boring.

Lisa May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is GREAT. He is very humble, while very greatful ! He seems very sincere ! I am glad he won. He will do well. He was my pick from the beginning ! I am glad America picked the right Idol. Go David Cook, we love you in Richmond !

Lam May 22nd, 2008

Well, the votes are in and it was finally right! By 12MILLION votes more! I am really glad that David C. won. Not that David A. was bad… just that David C was overall the best… I think most people will agree with this one!!!!

keaton May 22nd, 2008

I think this is totally awesome, finally an american idol that is deserving of the title. The other David has some maturing to do, very nervous and on edge all the time. Jordin Sparks was 17 and was as mature as someone 25. America got it right. Carly and Michael were superb!!!!!!!

grandmama May 22nd, 2008

Yay! What a tender heart and humble man. I hope he stays that way.

keaton May 22nd, 2008

Well said grandmama!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kathy Dudley May 22nd, 2008

David Cook, a true gentlemen and fantastic performer. I voted for you.

julie May 22nd, 2008

CLASS ACT A VERY CLASS ACT !!!

Candice May 22nd, 2008

Very proud! He is awesome!

Jennifer May 22nd, 2008

Oh, man, I am sooooooooooooo happy for David Cook! He so deserved to win! ROCK ON DAVID! I know he’ll make a great cd and he’ll continue being a good, humble, sweet guy - that’s the best part!!! AWESOME!!!

Maija, former teacher, now writer/astrologer May 22nd, 2008

I, too, had to have my say. David Cook was my favorite right from the beginning, bad hair (mine is very fine, too) and all! But, I think that Cowell did an impromptu strategy thing in favor, yes, in favor of David Cook, galvinizing some David Cook fans to vote. Got half a dozen of mine that way, though usually I don’t vote. Also I saw him Tuesday on Ellen Degeneres Show, where they both talked about how much more it means to win if you’ve gone through the “school of hard knocks” while waiting for your golden moment–which is, partially, in my opinion what’s so cool
about a the humility and gratitude that David Cook projects. He also leaned, from Simon’s comments about the attitude he projects, to not allow his earlier aloofness to win over, but to show his genuineness. Altogether, I admire David Archuletta and wish him well, but I’m delirious that David Cook won!

Lisa May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy he won!! He could truly sing the ohone book and make it sound different each time. Little David has some growing to do and he will be a fine artist as well. Don’t ever change from the sweet genrous loving person you are David Cook!! That is pasrt of wh you are the newest American Idol!! Keep doing what you are doing!! I will be in line for your CD when it comes out!! Keep up the great work!!

kylee May 22nd, 2008

Alright, I’m from Utah so you’d think I’d be all about the D.A. but I think there are some things that need to be cleared up.
David A. is a better vocalist plain and simple. everyone has agreed on that.
David C. is a better performer, he’s comfortable on stage and he knows who he is.
David Cook is NOT as creative as everyone thinks. All he did was spend more time on Itunes. He didn’t arrange the songs himself he just copied other peoples covers. With his “Dream Big” song on Tuesday he could have done whatever he wanted and that turned out to be his worst of the night. If he’s such a “risk taker” than why did that song suck so much?
They’re both okay but I honestly didn’t care who won. To me, both I think will go the way of Taylor Hicks, Fantasia, etc…

Bernadette May 22nd, 2008

I am so excited for him. David Archuletta is a very talented singer but in my opinion, not an American Idol. David Cook is wonderful!!! I can not wait to see how well he does.

lulu May 22nd, 2008

I am a Canadian and was unable to vote…so I would like to thank you guys in the US, for voting for the right man !!

David Cook you rock !!

ATilson May 22nd, 2008

The BEST man won!!! David Cook is amazing. I would be the first one to buy his album.

Judi May 22nd, 2008

It was so wonderful to see a nice humble young man take this year’s AI crown and he is talented to boot!

American got it right all the way around. I think David Cook is in a position to make the most of this opportunity and I sure hope he does.

Success couldn’t happen to a nicer guy!

Idaho May 22nd, 2008

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You deserve this title. I voted for you. God Bless you!!

Jeannie May 22nd, 2008

He should feel honored to share the same stage with David Archuleta. See you at the bar Cookie - I’ve have dirty martini.

Leah May 22nd, 2008

Hats off to AI producers. The finale was the best I have ever seen. Quick moving, very fun and entertaining and great idol performances. A big congrats to David Cook, my personal fave all season and also to David A, who is an amazing singer also. I loved TV Guide channel preshow where David Cook asked Kimberly Caldwell to dinner, very cute and fun!!

Amy May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is a true American Idol. He was fantastic and deserved every single vote he got. To “Jeannie” sound like you are quite used to spending time in a bar…unlike Cook who merely used it as a stepping to get to where he is today.
You are a rock star David Cook - enjoy every minute!

TXsweetie May 22nd, 2008

My mother, aunt, and I already have tickets for your show in Kansas City in August. We are making a special trip just to see YOU! My 126 votes for you did help! My 74 year old mother tried to vote for you for two hours and never got through on the phone…always busy so… America got it right!

e.wayne newhouse May 22nd, 2008

Congradulations to you David Cook! Although there were many great performers on the show, you, David Cook, was the best of them. I picked you to win from the beginning of the final twelve and it ended the way it should have. Good luck in everything you do. Truly you seem to be a very humble gracious genuine person. Don’t let the fame change who you are! Can’t wait to hear your album!

lisa May 22nd, 2008

David Cook reminds me of Daughtry but BETTER, and it sucked when Chris D. got voted off when he shouldn’t have so I feel that finally the right and most deserving person won. This was the best finale ever and I can’t wait to hear more music from DC and DA, they are both so talented in their own way!

fran henry May 22nd, 2008

the ex-bartender’s good breeding shone throughout the contest. david is one sexy guy and a pure original, blessed with the ability to own each note.

debc May 22nd, 2008

Wow! David Cook won!! I liked him from the beginning! I knew it would come down to the 2 Davids. He seems very genuine and nice. I hope he stays true to that. I hope success won’t change him. My favorite moment of the entire season was when he sang Roberta Flack and his mom was standing in the audience, as a mom about the same age as his, it brought a tear to my eye. David stay true to yourself as you fly higher and higher. David A was a great contestant too, but David C is more contemporary and he just had that something extra- I felt you could see his soul through his eyes at times. Best wishes to both Davids, I hope they both have a successful and happy life.

Pat May 22nd, 2008

Wasn’t my vote but best of luck and shave!!

Nicole May 22nd, 2008

THE BEST MAN WON! ALTHOUGH I LOVED ARCHULETTA HE HAS MANY MANY YEARS TO GROW AS A PERSON AND AS AN ARTIST. HIS VOCALS WERE SICK! BUT NOT AS UNIQUE AS COOK’S. COOK’S “TYPE” IS IN RIGHT NOW. I’VE BEEN WATCHING IDOL SINCE IT’S VERY FIRST EPISODE AND LIKE SIMON SAID IT REALLY DIDN’T MATTER WHO WON BECAUSE THEY BOTH WERE AMAZING IN THEIR OWN WAY. IT WAS COOKS TIME TO SHINE AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HE DID! THEY LEARNED THEIR LESSON BY SENDING DAUGHTRY HOME BUT FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT THIS YEAR. YOUR LIFE IS ABOUT TO CHANGE DRAMATICALLY DON’T FORGET WHO YOU ARE AND I HOPE YOU STAY GROUNDED. CONGRATS COOK AND GOOD LUCK!

Idaho May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy Cook is the new American Idol!!! He deserves this so much. When Archie gets older and not so nervous, he’s going to succeed as well.
My other favorite was Carly, she is so beautiful, so when I see pictures of Carly and Cook together, I print them off.

Jeannie-The bar sounds like one of your favorite places to visit. Just as “Amy” says, it’s merely a stepping stone, it’s a job. A job that many Americans today wish they had. If you have a job, be grateful. Be grateful for any opportunity that is put in front of you.

This audtion was “put” in front of Cook and he took it, and he proved himself to be a “winner”
and I can’t wait til his album comes out!
Go get’em David Cook!! YOU ROCK!!

sharon s. bowers May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations David Cook! I knew from the start you were the winner. The best, Sharon

Puddinhead May 22nd, 2008

A very deserving and classy guy. You will go far.
David A. also will be a great preformer in his
time.

Wendy May 22nd, 2008

COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED TO A GREATER GUY!!!!IDOL WAS LONG OVERDUE!!! GO DAVID COOK!

Kenny Matthews May 22nd, 2008

The only vote my wife and I called in all season was the last night to vote. Im glade to see David Cook win. Been a fan for all seven years, and this was without a dought the best year ever! Very entertaining! It’s going to be hard to top this one. Thank You Fox, Ford, and everyone else involved.

Little Lon May 22nd, 2008

We voted 138 times and would voted more if we could. He’s the complete package and musically well diversed.

Quito May 22nd, 2008

This Canadian fan is cheering! Great finale. Glad DC took the title. He’s got the talent & maturity to handle what’s to come. Anyone else think that AI ought to up the age limit to 18? I’m tired of having ‘kids’ put under such obvious pressure. I guess watching these young kids break down makes for good TV, huh?

Denise May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is as classy as he is talented. He was my pick from the beginning - and I will buy his music.

cleo May 22nd, 2008

CONGRATULATIONS DAVID COOK…

CalBearsGirl May 22nd, 2008

I never vote for things like this, but I had to this time. David Cook was amazing all the way thru. From the very beginning, he established himself as a true musician, taking unpredicatble routes rather than playing it safe. It’s about time!! Congratulations David!!

Dolores Hook May 22nd, 2008

Really appreciated David’s humble attitude and knew he was a winner from the beginning. Never watched Idol until this year and found the shows to be awesome. All of the top winners wer great and performed beyond my expectations…

Karen May 22nd, 2008

When the decision came… I threw my hands up in the air and said YES!!!! I am very happy for you. There were two great talents on that stage last night. You made the show a real pleasure to watch.I bet singing with ZZ Top was an awesome experience for you also. David, you are very talented and also seem to have a good head on your shoulders. I am sure you will go far. We just never know what God has planned for us do we?God bless you always.

Felicia May 22nd, 2008

Great win for David Cook! He deserved it thru and thru. The most original and down to earth guy who won the dream.

Chelsey May 22nd, 2008

David, ALWAYS have a gentle, humble, and loving heart as a singer and perhaps a songwriter as well. When you shine in that way, people are touched by you. Be a good example to people by having a good heart and staying away from what isn’t good. I prayed for you to win and I shall continue to.

LoLo May 22nd, 2008

I was skeptical at first who would win (after the Chris Daughtry debacle). I was disillusioned with the show and didn’t tune in the next season. When I returned to watch this season, the voters seemed more mature and able to HEAR the deserving winner, based on all performances, not just “hair & make-up”. Thanks for choosing wisely, America…

wanda watson May 22nd, 2008

David, although you are from KS, OK couldn’t be prouder to have had you bartending on our turf. You are truly a stand up guy and I wish you all the best in your triumphant win! I usually don’t envy, but I’m full of it today! You rock!

http://www.wandawatsonband.com

Vic May 22nd, 2008

Fantastic! I had my doubts, but I am so happy that America got this right.
He is an awesome singer, a nice, humble, family loving guy with good midwestern values, and a hottie to boot!
I will be in line to buy David Cook’s first CD.

wanda watson May 22nd, 2008

Ooops, my bad….you are from MO….close enough, still huge congrats!

Who Cares What My Name Is May 22nd, 2008

To Jeannie: “I’ve have dirty martini.” Seriously sounds like you’ve already had a few…

To Kylee: “Alright, I’m from Utah so you’d think I’d be all about the D.A. but…” kinda says it all. Have you thought that maybe performing other covers was creative? Of course that does depend on your definition of creative. How many other AI contestants consistently spent time searching for other song versions that general viewers had not heard? From what I’ve seen, contestants on AI perform songs that have already been done, right? There is no doubt that Cook performed covers of originals. The point is that he was creative in his approach - he wasn’t typical and the songs didn’t sound like the versions we typically remember them as. If I’m not mistaken, their OWN songs are put out after winning so I’m sure if Cook could have performed his own songs, he would have. How do you know that Cooks version of ‘Dream Big’ sucked when you haven’t even heard other versions of the song? How do you know the song doesn’t just suck? For all we know, his version will end up being the best.

David A. has an awesome voice but voters did get it right.

All the best to David A and CONGRATS to David C!

Daniel May 22nd, 2008

Good For David Cook, but 52million to 40million is hardly a bad thing for Archuleta who will only and can only get better and better, can you imagine David A at 25 and what he will sound like.

Daniel May 22nd, 2008

David Cook got 52 million votes and David Archuleta got 40 million votes so how is that a bad thing for Archuleta? Imagine what Archuleta will sound like at 25

Jackson May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations David Cook!! you are a humble man and a true gentleman, your mom raised you right. You are truly a fantastic performer. Loved your performance with ZZ Top. I can’t wait to buy your CD.

In a year Archie will be a year older and wiser and will have total control of his career. He has a great future ahead of him.

carolina May 22nd, 2008

I agree with Grandmama too. David Cook comes across as a class act and he’s so articulate. I’m so happy for him and can’t wait for his debut CD.

giraffe May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is the best! I am elated that David Cook won. He is one of the most talented performers I have seen on AI. His humble nature is touching and the fact that he said, “I came in without expectations and I will go forward without expectations.” Expect, expect and expect! The sky is the limit for you, David. All the best for you and success and every turn.

WildKAT May 22nd, 2008

Awesome! American FINALLY got it right. Thanks America. I voted 908 times for you David Cook on DialIdol.com. Those votes represented not only myself but for others who couldn’t get through using regular phone dialing and talked about it on the blogs. David Cook is very, very hip and a fabulous musician with an amazing vocal range and talent. He is a classy, yet humble gentleman. He is also a humanitarian. He’ll make a great record because he knows what he likes in music. He’ll be accepted by mainstream because he is a true artist. David is the total package. Rock ON! David. I am so happy for you.

Daniel May 22nd, 2008

The age limit should be changed to 18 because if in the end there is a competition as this time between say a 16 year old and a 26 year old both with talent- the fans start the insults about a disney cd and it gets ugly, so that needs to be changed for next year. Compare Miley Cyrus to Fergie, who wins?

lau May 22nd, 2008

I wanted to vote so bad, but I can’t in Canada. I think I clapped in front of my tv for five minutes when David won, not even realizing it! I was so excited. David A. was very talented, but David always outshined them all, even on Tuesday if you ask me! I love the U2 song, he was terrific singing it. I’m glad Simon apologized. Maybe he’ll learn a lesson. And hey, wasn’t it Simon that said NO to David in Hollywood? Yes it was! And I think Simon was really rooting for Cook in the end. Did you see how happy Simon was when his name was announced?

K Gibson May 22nd, 2008

I never understood the “hoopla” over the nasal-toned David A. when such a talent as David Cook sung his heart out each week! He deserved the win! He is the total package! David A. has a lot of growing up to do. I had no intention of buying a single CD if David A. won and now I can’t wait for David Cook’s first CD. I wish him great success!

TexAnne May 22nd, 2008

Last night’s finale was one of the best in the 7 year season and was the crest of the moon when David Cook won. I cannot wait to purchase his first album.

TexAnne May 22nd, 2008

Last night’s finale was one of the best in the 7 year season and was the crest of the moon when David Cook won. I cannot wait to purchase his first album. American Idol got it right this time!

Cindy May 22nd, 2008

I screamed my head off when David Cook’s name was announced! This is the first time that a singer that I was behind even made it to the finals….. I loved David Cook’s performances… every one of them. (I also was and am a huge Michael Johns fan… please someone tell me that he is going to be recording a CD!) Idol finalies have been boring to me in recent years. But, this year America got it right on the nailhead. In the past I have felt that it was 10 year old girls and old ladies who have choosen the Idol winners, but this year I think that everyone else felt invested. Good job David Cook, and great job voters!!!!!

Lori May 22nd, 2008

We all knew, for weeks now, who would be the top two. Both of you (Davids) are extremely talented, in 2 seperate genres. David (Cook), I think you really do have what it takes to be a star, just don’t lose yourself to the industry. You’re character and personality are great the way you are. You have always shown so much integrity and caring for all your fellow contestants. Best Wishes for your future.

Lizzie May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy for David Cook, congrats to David A. too, he did so good and didn’t let the pressure get to him. I think they both will go far in different musical aspects, David A. would be a great Gospel singer…and Cook is an awesome rocker.
Good job to both of you!!

Janet May 22nd, 2008

YAHOO DAVID COOK! You rock!!! You better print up some extra CD’s because they’re going to run out here in Colorado Springs! Am SO darned happy you won David C. Keep it sweet. Keep it real. That’s why we love you. You have an amazing imagination and genuine feel for arranging music. Keep up the phenominal work! And hey Kylee above… The Dream Big song was one of the writing contest winning songs… so why would he rearrange a song that was specifically written for him to sing that night? And the other songs he has done were “rearranged,” to suit his style. He didn’t arrange them… the original artist did. David A has a phenominal and gentle voice. He will be great as he matures into his talent. Because of his youth, he doesn’t yet have the vocal power DC has, nor the creative talents necessary to rearrange a composition without the help of others. Maybe some day. Just not yet… Cook has these talents and so much more. Not to mention that inner intuitive sense to “feel” his musical arrangements. He is sure to hit platinum a few times over! Go David Cook. We couldn’t be prouder to have you crowned our American Idol!!

Lynne May 22nd, 2008

Just goes to prove that God does have a hand in turning this world: Just happened to be in line for AI, with his brother, not planning to audition, was asked to audition and then wins the whole thing?

David, you are right where you should be. Stay the person you are and LIVE THE BLESSING! God doesn’t make mistakes!

marti8 May 22nd, 2008

Loved David Cook’s performance with ZZ top and the guitar hero commercial. DC you are a true performer. Congratulations!!!!

This is by far the best finale. All the performances were great (well, except for the guy who looked like one of the three muskateers - we could have done without that performance).

The duet of Carly and Michael Johns was awesome. Good job to the producers.

JRK May 22nd, 2008

When Ryan read David Cook as the 2008 American Idol, I actually screamed out loud! David Cook was my favorite from the get-go (and not just because he was from the Omaha auditions). I thought last year the participants were remarkably talented and nice young people, but you have all managed to take it up yet another notch. Having such a high degree of talent and character among your fellow contestants makes your win that much sweeter. Congratulations and God bless to all the top 12!

yolanda Riddling May 22nd, 2008

Happy that David Cook won,but also happy that
David A came in as second top Idol.David Cook
is very calm & mature & will go a long way in
the entertainment business!David A is still a
very young man & is not quite mature enough to
put up with the wild & crazy entertainment world.
In a few years He’ll grow more secure & able to
handle it all. He’s very talented, I love him &
God bless him, he did GREAT!!!

Brenda May 22nd, 2008

I only have one short comment, but I think it speaks volumes.

Cook is Good.
Archuleta is God

Lisa May 22nd, 2008

Don’t hate. Be happy.

Rita May 22nd, 2008

David had me at, Billie Jean. He is just awesome and not that my voting made him win, but I literally got through 1,254 times. Go David. I love his voice. Yeah, Archuleta was good but just for sappy ballads. He proved nothing better when he tried to sing Chris Brown’s “With You”. But, Cook, oh man he has the whole freakin package. He’s good lookin, has a great voice, that sweet side and the edge to go with it!!!! I was so happy for him. Especially because we finally have a rocker to win the show!!!! David, you can rock my world any day and serenade me by night!!!!

Tina May 22nd, 2008

I don’t think David is “cursed” being the American Idol. I think that the show and the fans will springboard him to superstardom. He deserves it.

This season was by far the best because of David Cook. There are no words to describe how amazing he truly is both talently and humanly. He is really the most nicest, sincere contestant the show has ever seen. Congrats David Cook! You earned it!

Brenda May 22nd, 2008

I only have one thing to say.
Cook - Good
Archuleta - God

Gigi May 22nd, 2008

Very talented performer, very unique and diverse! I loved all his performances and actually disagreed with Simon’s comment’s on the last show. Glad he won it! Looking forward to your music!

DebTulsa May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations to David Cook. A very humble and deserving artist. I look forward to hearing much more.

Darlene Cook May 22nd, 2008

Way to go David. Great Voice, Great Attitude. I am proud to share the same last name. I look forward to your first CD.

gail May 22nd, 2008

He’s the genuine article: a true performer with soul. I just hope he can handle the success.

debbie herman May 22nd, 2008

congratulations to you david cook you have made us in kc so proud, i know you will have a bright future, cant wait for the cd

Thea May 22nd, 2008

To Jeannie and others who say DC is not original:
* yes he copied other arrangements for SOME songs
* he made HIS OWN for songs like Alway Be My Baby (one of the best performances of the year), Little Sparrow, All I Really Need is You and others. [disclaimer: at least I have not read anywhere that they were not original- and i've read a lot AI! do not attack me if some obscure band claimed it]
* he writes his own music. I love his old album Analog Heart. Maybe someone will not like it, but you cannot say he has no musical talent…

Kathleen Sauer May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations David Cook!

Personally, I think it is quite obvious that Simon knew who the winner was and therefore chose to apologize and back pedal on his remarks from the night before to save face!

All that aside, both Davids are great, both will be successful and the final show itself was truly fantastic and wonderfully entertaining!!!

Ann-marie Hewey May 22nd, 2008

From the moment you walked in I knew you were the one not even the the judges could take away what God have put in place for you.Now it is your time to shine and please give back any way you can. you deserve this very much. Can’t wait for the album.

Much love

Annelise May 22nd, 2008

David,

You are not only a great singer/rock star but also a very nice person…it total shows on stage that you are a down-to-earth guy. You deserve it!

NICOLE May 22nd, 2008

DC, I’m so very happy for you and your family.
CONGRATULATIONS! I wish that my son( who’s 10 and plays quitar) will become such a great person like you: talented, great personality ,kind and lovable!

Shanna May 22nd, 2008

I am so excited that David Cook won!!!! Now I am just waiting for his CD to come out!!!!

Lorna May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations David Cook. You are the real deal. We were unable to vote but you had mine right from the beginning. What an awesome show Fox put on last night. All the big names and the Idols getting to appear with them.. Gladys and her Pips were hilarious.. Stay true to yourself David and I can’t wait to get your C.D. I think once David A. can get out of the grips of his stage Dad we will be buying his C.D.’s as well.

cruzin4us May 22nd, 2008

I voted for David C. with 2 cell phones, one in each hand. I’m one happy camper he won. I made $15 plus we now have the best, most humble, genuine American Idol ever. Keep up the great work……YOU ROCK DAVID.

ameroy May 22nd, 2008

david cook, you’re a perfect american idol! you’re talented, kind, and well spoken. i’m so glad that america actually got it right this year.

Joy May 22nd, 2008

I rest my case,,,, David Cook was above the entire talent of the 25 cast. he outsung, outplayed, and outweighed the others 100%, He is talent personafied with great stage presence
Good Luck David C.

CyndirellaKC May 22nd, 2008

David - you are a classy guy and everyone in Kansas City is so proud of you! I got to watch with a small group of people including your step sister and niece, and we were crying right along with you with relief and joy. You have so much talent and don’t give yourself enough credit. Excellent job! This season was SO exciting to watch, not just because someone local was on it, but because the amount of talent there was. You are an amazing artist and songwriter. We are proud of you!!

Superfox May 22nd, 2008

YES!!! I too am from the show me state and David is the man just goes to show that Missouri does have talent!

Sherry May 22nd, 2008

Class act all the way.

mikey May 22nd, 2008

check out this idol stuff about the finale, etc. at http://www.jbonair.com/idol.html

Olivia May 22nd, 2008

I didn’t really care this year who won, although I think that David A. has a better voice. And as I saw David C. sing at the end, I felt no emotion like I did when Jordin won…

Emilie May 22nd, 2008

Amazing - I am so happy that American Idol finally got it right - there hasn’t been one this deserving since Carrie Underwood and I couldn’t be happier. Cooksie rocks! I’ve been a fan since day one and will look forward to seeing you live on tour this summer - yay! Little D did great with One Republic last night but someone who needed his dad to pick out his music performances shouldn’t have been the Idol. I’m so happy that Cooksie got it - he deserved it 150%! I love him! He’s great!!!

Taura May 22nd, 2008

America got it right! David C, you deserve this. Remember to stay humble and grateful on the road ahead and life will continue to be kind.

Donna May 22nd, 2008

David C: talent, grace, humility. Plus a great personality. Congratulations, the best man won! I hope you go far.

Dana May 22nd, 2008

David Cook ROCKS! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TRUE WINNER OF AMERICAN IDOL. I haven’t watched Idol in ages because the contestants are usually just your regular ‘talented Joe’s”. DCook got me hooked!!! He’s got an awesome voice, talented, always switching the songs up and not to mention very sexy!

You rock David!!!!

David Cook Rocks! May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy that David Cook won! He seems like a great person and we all know how well he can sing…. Congratulations David! We love you! I look forward to buying your CD.
Good luck in everything and God Bless You and your family. I know ya’ll are going through a difficult time now, too. My prayers are with ya’ll.

Keosha May 22nd, 2008

Horray! So glad he won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deb Fox May 22nd, 2008

David:

I have never witnessed any performer display as much generosity to their fellow competitors as you have done. In the moment of your huge victory, you stopped to take the time to hug David Archuleta, say whatever words you needed to say and then ask the audience to acknowledge David. What class ! After watching you with your family all season, I am relieved to know that you will have that kind of support as you move into a career in the music industry. It will keep you grounded as you soar to the top. Good luck; thanks for the great experience of watching you grow from week to week. Until your album is released, I will have to survive on my iTunes downloads.

Diana May 22nd, 2008

What don’t you get??????????? David Archuletta CAN SING.David Cook has no emotion to his singing. David A. is clearly the BEST………

Matt's Mom May 22nd, 2008

You made your mamma and brother proud!! The best gift you can give — Way to go!!

mindy May 22nd, 2008

Cook and Archuleta became good buddy during the competition. Cook learned a lot about humility from Archuleta which is great. That being said. They both winners according to thejudges.Archuleta was clearly declared a winner on Tuesday night putting out a heartfelt performance. Cook won Wednesday night with the voters. Reason? maturity and experience, we should not overlook the fact that Cook have already put out an album in 2002-2006. That experience alone will crushed Archuleta’s chance of winning the competition. Archuleta is called a savant boy, a prodigy. I will wait for his CD no matter how long it takes.

David fan May 22nd, 2008

I would have been fine w/either David winning - I’m just not sure why we had to know that David C won by 12 million votes. That has to hurt David A - AI is just about the publicity. How sad is that? Congrats to David C - I’m sure a long and prosperous career is ahead of you. And David A - I’m sure the same thing is in store for you regardless of how many votes you lost by.

Kathleen May 22nd, 2008

I thought it was terrible that Simon would apologize to David Cook after the fact. After everyone voted he comes up with the apology. I have often wondered why he has been so critical of David Cook’s song choices when I thought he was great. Maybe they shouldn’t have judges on the show if they arn’t hearing what we the public hear (you too Paula) and they have to go home and hear it on their own TVs. That could have cost David Cook the prize.

joyzg May 22nd, 2008

CONGRATS DAVID!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

There’s no doubt in my mind you’ll go places with the phenomenal goods God blessed you with. You’ve earned it DAVID…go for it…show no mercy! Don’t settle for wooden handles…GO SUPER…GO BIG…GO LARGER THAN LIFE!!!

New Jersey LOVES YOU!!!

Janet May 22nd, 2008

What a classy rockstar!

Christine May 22nd, 2008

Sorry….but America did NOT get it right last night. Do you seriously think Cook is a better singer than Archuleta? He couldn’t even sing his Idol song on key last night after he won. Well…..in any case, Archuleta has 8 years on Cook. Imagine what he’ll sound like at 25!

Mich Cato May 22nd, 2008

Well done David! My daughter and I have been following the show here in England and decided weeks ago that you should win it! Loved your version of ‘Billy Jean’, fantastic.

Jane May 22nd, 2008

Thanks David! You were the best! Can’t wait for your success in the future!

Christa May 22nd, 2008

What a classy guy! He was my vote from the very beggining. Not only is he talented but he is humble and very down to earth. David Archuleta will do well after the show no doubt but cook was definitely more desreving of the title…

Sam May 22nd, 2008

Wow. What a great guy. I hope fame doesn’t destroy him!

Larissa May 22nd, 2008

Diana, what do you mean Cook has no emotion when he sings? He put his soul into every song, and was he ever in the bottom 3? That should say it all. Cook connected with the viewers. It’s about time someone of a different genre and not always categorized in “pop” won this competition. Rock singers on this show finally got the respect they deserve.. by winning it.

Simon May 22nd, 2008

Almost on every thread about ‘Idol’, all i have seen is the DC fans call DA names. I guess we saw “The man crying and the boy becoming the man!”.

Velma May 22nd, 2008

I am a 46 year old grandma and I am a HUGE fan! All I can say is I cannot wait for your CD to hit the stands ill be the first in line! Congratulations!

Anna May 22nd, 2008

Well said Larissa! DITTO!

Beauty May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is by far the most amazing person for this competition. Easy going, caring and most of all hott!! Good lUck David!!! We luv U!!

Donna W May 22nd, 2008

I don’t think America could lose either way. I’m so glad that America finally got the bottom two right! DC and DA both are classy, humble guys and I hope it stays that way! Bravo, American Idol!

Marie May 22nd, 2008

DAVID COOK! I hope you go far in this business, I will be behind you all the way! What a classy guy!

Maura May 22nd, 2008

David C,
What you said about David A. was so true - his talent is amazing and I voted for him quite a few times.
At the same time, I can see why you won. Your humility combined with your individualism and talent was a three-way punch!
Congratulations! Keep your humility. I pray for your brother!

Lori May 22nd, 2008

I am so glad that David Cook won. Throughout the whole season and especially at the end of the final show, he
showed everyone how nice he is - he took time out of his moment to acknowledge the other David. That was one of the most touching moments for me. That to me showed that he truly is the American Idol!!

rita May 22nd, 2008

YOU WERE VERY TALENTED, HOWEVER, YOU RECEIVED SYMPATHY VOTES BECAUSE OF SIMON COWELL’S REMARKS THE PREVIOUS EVENING.

Dave May 22nd, 2008

DC Fans! When is 25 considered mature… Just a few years older but maybe most cannot do math.

Sarah May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy that he won! He is such a talented and classy individual. I can’t wait for his album to come out.

melissa May 22nd, 2008

I didn’t care which David won (they were my 2 favorites). They both will be great! The one thing that bothered me about Cook, however, is his rip-off of the band Live. His singing sounded much like Ed’s (lead singer). I’m not saying it’s a bad thing…I love the way he sings, but I find it interesting that I had never heard this be said, at any time, throughout this competition. Weird. Like Simon (LOVE him) says….”just an opinion”! :)

Debbie May 22nd, 2008

What a class act David Cook is. As each week passed, he grew on me. He is going to have one heck of a career. (David A. will too.) I can’t wait to buy his first CD. Love You.

PJ May 22nd, 2008

You did it David, and you did it well!
You had the most orginal perfomances,
and I thank you.

sandra abadie May 22nd, 2008

YOU WERE GREAT LAST NIGHT, MAY YOUR DREAM COME TRUE WITH SUCCESS.

Carole May 22nd, 2008

I am so HAPPY David Cook won !!!! God Bless you, waiting on your CD !!!!!! And American Idol , last nights show was the BEST I have seen on TV in a very LONG TIME xoxoxox thanks for the entertainment, we could use more shows like this.
The american idol singers for this season were the BEST, their performences last night were excellent. Carly & Mike thumbs up xoxox (thought you both should of gone further) Anyway again David Cook GREAT JOB….HURRY WITH CD !!!!
Yeah, Simon for the apology(that was great)

mindy May 22nd, 2008

After reading the posters comment. I can see that people really do not know what’s going on It is all about business, ratings. They need to develop a story or spin. Any of the TOP 5 could have been in that position if groomed properly. A little bit of manipulation in people’s mind and judges being interviewed to subtly promote who they think will be profitable in the end. The establishment have finally succumbed to reality TV for the sake of ratings. Sad, Jason was unique, carly fantastic voice, MJ good contender as well, Cook was promoted well. groomed to become the american idol

Cheryl May 22nd, 2008

Way to go David! You showed real class, were always a gentleman and made your family proud. It is going to be an amazing ride for you, hold on and enjoy it.

Elly May 22nd, 2008

This was the first season I watched all the way. Both Davids were my favorites from the beginning. I think both will have great careers. It was a great finale. David Cook looked happy and relaxed. He was very classy last night.

Alexis May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is the first contestent on American Idol in years that I feel will go on to be successful. I find that he is a genuenly sencere guy. He didn’t have to share “his moment” with David Archuletta, but he did. He never let his talent go to his head, and that is why I believe that he won. I really don’t know how next years contestants will be able to follow up that act.

Caroline May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy that David Cook won. I really wanted Michael Johns to win but if he couldn’t take the title I’m glad David C. did

Kathy May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations David Cook. It was a great finale with two worthy finalists. I think experience won as Cook is a diverse entertainer with a great voice. David A. has an amazing voice and it was great to see the emotion come through when he sang in the finals. He gave me goose bumps. Hopefully, Cook will remain true to his sound and create a great CD; and someone, like Clive Davis, will take David A. in his wing and help him develop his performance potential — the voice is already there. Good Luck to both of them.

joyzg May 22nd, 2008

ARCHULETA should have been BOOTED OFF long time ago had the teeny boopers not kept him week after week due to popularity with teen voters ~ who know nothing about true talents!!! I still can’t phatom how he stayed after that night he forgot his lyrics and his gooey drooly breathing each time he sings won’t cut at all in the music business.

To all David C. haters, get a life and stick your nasty comments somewhere where it belongs!!!

DAVID COOK is the DESERVING WINNER!!! Take it or leave it!!!

Megan May 22nd, 2008

I have to say that I NEVER watch American Idol. To be quite frank with you I hated the show. Then a couple of months ago I turned on the TV and heard this amazing voice singing a very different version of Billie Jean than I was used to. I sat there in awe…it literally brought me to tears. So, thank you David Cook. Thank you for sharing your gift to the world. You are an amazing performer and will accomplish amazing things.

RfromMaryland May 22nd, 2008

Finally I picked a winner!! He deserves it for his creativity!

Megan F May 22nd, 2008

Before the airing on Tuesday I wanted David A. to win but after Tuesday the only song I could remember was Dream Big by David C. SO I knew he was going to win. I believe that he will do well in the music industry

Nikki May 22nd, 2008

CONGRATULATIONS DC!! My entire family voted as much as we could. We all love him!! Extremely talented, humble, SEXY, and wonderful. I can’t wait to buy his CD!

Linny B. Sialongo May 22nd, 2008

Sorry, judges, but you really appeared as if you had already prejudged the final result on Wednesday night(no offense meant for David Archuleta who is undeniably talented and sang one of my favorite songs - Imagine). Fortunately, America did not agree with you. Way to go! Congratulations, David Cook. You deserve the title - you are classy, have intensity as a singer, are good on stage, and have a genuine performer’s personality. Because of your victory, I was screaming and flailing my arms though alone in my room. Lastly, congratulations to Ryan Seacrest as well. He is one of the best people on television.I like him best after Conan O’Brien.

marko May 22nd, 2008

Everyone - get a life.

ruevkle May 22nd, 2008

Ok, Seriously. After reading these comments and seeing people who said “i voted and got through 1300 times!” it makes me not even want to watch american idol anymore. How are the votes representing America if there are a few hundred individuals voting thousands and thousands of times!?! All you need is for a few nutjobs to like the wrong person to screw up the votes (which is CLEARLY what happened when Taylor Hicks won!!!) I like David Cook and i am glad he won, but to be fair people should only be voting once.

Idol Sux May 22nd, 2008

Cook is a phenomenal singer - wish he could’ve lost. Would’ve been the next Daughtry. but now - unfortunately - he’s stuck making Idol albums for the rest of his life, taking orders from big wigs that think they know. Suffocating his creative expression

Mimi May 22nd, 2008

David

I wish you had time to read all of the websites and posts congratulating you on your success - Your geniune humanity and humble personality is what makes you a “Star” and the way that you truly care for others is apparent on and off stage - You provided the fans with varity and songs that were truly your own style - Baby David, as well is a winner and deserves great success also - but you stayed true to your self and family - Stay true - continue to be humble and thank God everyday for all that you have achieved and your self you worked hard for it and never stop believing - Best wishes on your new journey in life and to your Brother Adam and his family may God bless him in his journey with fight to get well.

Can’t wait to see you in Sacramento on July 9th

Mimi

LadyDi May 22nd, 2008

YAH! We finally got it right! David Cook is the whole package - A True “American Idol!”

Lane May 22nd, 2008

Now we just need to work on that really bad comb over. Maybe a little trim and some highlights. The bed head look just is not working.

Melissa A Bermudez May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations Davis C. Your album will definitely sell. Cant wait to hear more. Both of you final 2 were amazing but you are more of an entertainer. I love that you are sincere and genuine. Stay that way!!!

Gracie May 22nd, 2008

I’m still crying over it. I’m so happy for him! America, welcome your new American Idol! He’s the best!

hmorici May 22nd, 2008

WAY TO GO DAVID COOK!!! I am so happy he won…he certainly deserved this. I’m not one to buy any albums from past American Idols but in this case…I may just have to pick up his upcoming album. When he did the Chris Cornell version of Billie Jean…I was speachless…Amazing!!!!!!

Kathy Koplen May 22nd, 2008

Hey, I pegged this guy to be the winner several weeks back eventhough I was afraid the younger David had the younger fan base. When Ryan announced that David C had won last night I jumped and screamed soooo loud that my cat flew off the couch and my dog ran into the back bedroom. I yelled I bet for 5 minutes and shed a few happy tears for David C. What a neat guy and a proud American Idol he was last night. I’m thrilled he won. Arch will have a good career also I suspect.
Kathy

Stephanie May 22nd, 2008

I don’t even watch this show, but reading this interview made me wish I had watched his journey. What a class act! He seems so grounded and real - it’s nice to see that in such a young guy. Reach for the stars, David … and when you get there, go even further… Best of Luck.

JoJoTaylor May 22nd, 2008

David Cook I wanted you to win since the 1st time I heard your voice during the auditions! Your amazing and so grounded through all of this!! You deserve this sooo much and this is just the beginning…did I mention your AMAZING!!

Mary May 22nd, 2008

I just want to say CONGRATULATIONS David Cook!! You are so deserving of this! I was so glad when Ryan said you won. I along with the rest of the nation watched you evolve into an extraordinary singer/musician. I looked forward to seeing what you were going to do week after week. You have such an amazing voice. Simply breath taking. You are fun to watch too. I can’t wait to see what you’re going to do next. Oh, and I LOVE the haircut and beard look that you have now contrary to what “The Love Guru” had said :) Don’t change a thing! You are gorgeous!

brianna May 22nd, 2008

I am so glad David Cook won!!!!!!!!!!!He seems like a real genuine person. I hope he sells millions of records!

meredith May 22nd, 2008

congrats!great talent, nice guy, kinda reminds me a bit of dave matthews.

K May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy for David C. He deserved to win because he was the most versatile contestant by far. I cannot wait until his album comes out. Congrats David C !!!!!

Mary Bain May 22nd, 2008

i am the mom of the 43yr old, i am also a big fan of clay but clay will have to take a back seat, can’t wait for your first single or album, ilove the magic in your voice and you are a handsome guy too, tina

Corrinne May 22nd, 2008

I think he is amazing. He comes of as such a nice guy. I think he really deserves this and I will def be buying his album when it comes out. YAY Cook!

Tawnny May 22nd, 2008

Archuleta was obviously “coached” to act humble and naive. it was aggravating really, i was sooo ready for him to get voted off.

Mo's Mama May 22nd, 2008

Yaay David Cook! Glad that a Midwestern boy took the title. And even more happy that a ‘rocker’ won, too. America definitely got it right! But David A. will not disappear - he is so young and this is just the beginning… for both of them.

Nikki May 22nd, 2008

David Cook was good but, Dave A. is a much better singer and will out sing Cook by time he turns 25. He will only get better with age.

June May 22nd, 2008

Way to go, David Cook!!! Great you are from Missouri, the Show Me State!!! You showed us what great talent you have!!!

Jennifer May 22nd, 2008

I love this man. He is amazing and talented.

Jenny May 22nd, 2008

Finally a contestant that I believed in from the start, voted for throughout the entire competition, and screamed and cheered for as he won last night. What a well-spoken, truly talented artist. I will certainly buy his CD, and can’t wait for it to come out. Way to go, David Cook!!!

Stephanie May 22nd, 2008

The right David, without a doubt, won! I literally voted myself to sleep that night! I had complete faith in David Cook and that the voters would come through for him. You do not win by 12 million votes without completely deserving it. I just can not stand the long wait til I can purchase his CD!! He is going to be the best American Idol yet! David C., do not ever lose that attitude you have, it alone will take you anywhere you want to go! We LOVE you here in NC! David A. you too are a great young man and you will be a star yourself!! Good luck to you on your journey!

Bosco May 22nd, 2008

David Cook Rocks. Hopefully on his first album, they let him use microphones from http://www.oktava.com
Can’t wait for next season….to the beach!

Larry May 22nd, 2008

BOTH DAVID ARCHULETA & DAVID COOK PUT ON A GOOD PERFORMANCE AS THE FINAL CONTESTANTS, BUT THE THING I LIKED ABOUT DAVID COOK WHEN THE JUDGES GIVE HIM CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM HE USED IT TO HIS ADVANTAGE.i WISH THE BEST FOR BOTH DAVID ARCHULETA & DAVID COOK, ESPECIALLY COOK.

Alli May 22nd, 2008

You are all class Mr. Cook…We couldnt ask for a better American Idol…We are expecting great things to come out of you!!!

yoj May 22nd, 2008

This is for Lala…I hope you enjoyed the moment that David Cook is a winner…and you’re the ____er!

Andrea May 22nd, 2008

CONGRATS COOK!!!!! I’m very happy for you!

Denise May 22nd, 2008

We are so glad for you David. Our love and prayers go out to you. Can’t wait till your CD comes out. You are a great perfromer. Best of luck to you. Make us all proud. You go man!!!

Kristen May 22nd, 2008

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe David Cook won. I’m so happy for him. He’s amazing! Defaintly deserves to be the American Idol. I cried yesterday when Ryan said his name. And I loved it when his mom and brother came on stage with him. It was so sweet. I loved how he said to his brother ” You did this to me”,it was a great moment. I wish Adam was there. I know David would have loved to see him. Congrats David!!!

AZ May 22nd, 2008

Jenny May 22nd, 2008 said:

It’s about time someone who is so diverse with his song choices won American Idol. I can’t believe everyone thought David A. was better. All his songs sound exactly the same, boring.

You may not like David. A style of music, but why don’t you try a show some class like David Cook.

Hedy May 22nd, 2008

I called it from the beginning. I knew Cookie would win!! He is talented, humble and exciting!

Jackie May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is very talented and it brought me to tears that he won! As a single gal I think he is the right guy for me =)

Sofia May 22nd, 2008

David Cook and Michael Johns were my favorite from the beginning, but as time progressed, I thought that David C was the more diverse of the two. I Loved Michael but David Cook took the crown literally……he is a true American Idol. I have enormous faith in this young man. Best of luck!!

Trin May 22nd, 2008

Had David A had the maturity and had already become an adult the results may have been very different. David C has been a favorite, no doubt he will do well. He had the common sense and maturity to deal with the pressures that await him. He absolutely was the right choice. David A has showed his common sense and solid state of mind in knowing that he needs to finish his education and live the remaining teen years grounded and focused on what lies beyond high school and living with mom and dad. I honestly do not think he expected to win and he is probably relieved it is over. But I don’t believe we have seen the last of David A not for a minute. With his talent and that voice of his, add some life experience, wisdom, and maturity, he will be back. The spirit, realness and sincerity of these two gents earned them both MAJOR BIG KUDOS. May the future bring both success and happiness. I hope they remain close friends in their future years. David C will be a wonderful mentor to David A and David A can be a source to keep life real for David C. Fame and fortune has led many young talents down a path that is anything but living a good life.

Ellen May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is an American Idol - all class all the way. David A is wonderful too…I’m just happy DC took the title. Well done.

JAMIE May 22nd, 2008

I absolutely LOVE LOVE David Cook, I was so excited that he one! I think he is an amazing artist and I can’t wait to see what he will bring to the music industry. He is truly talented and humble, and that makes him GREAT!
KEEP ON ROCKIN’!!!

brittany May 22nd, 2008

luv brittany

LuvBear May 22nd, 2008

David A. is young and has his whole life ahead of him. David C. is a little older so he deserved to win this. He got more of the votes because he sings Rock!! David A. does more Pop. I think there are more fans of Rock then Pop.

Brooke May 22nd, 2008

Congrats to David Cook. Either David winning would have been okay, but I love David Cook. Now American Idol have 3 deserving winners, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and now David Cook.

aprilmay May 22nd, 2008

Way to Go David Cook. You are the only winner of this competition….

Jen May 22nd, 2008

I totally jumped off my couch screaming when DC won! Very excited, he was my pick from the begining, I really think America made the right choice this time! I think David will go far.

debbsc May 22nd, 2008

What a class act! Both Davids are talented, but David Cook is so much more diverse. I wish him much success.

utidolfan May 22nd, 2008

I wish all of David Cook’s fans were as classy as he is. He gives credit where credit is due when it comes to Archuleta and only speaks highly of him. It’s funny how both contestants are genuinely humble, great people but only Cook is appreciated while Archie is called a fake. They’re both going to be very successful! Great Finale! Carly, Syesha, and Michael shined. Anmanda should have stayed home!

Melody May 22nd, 2008

David Cook so derserved to win!! He is so mature, humble and seems very genuine and sincere. He took time out of his winning moment to congratulate David A. What a winner!!! David A. is just not ready for the pressure it takes to be the American Idol. America definitely got it right this year.

m May 22nd, 2008

I want him to do a Phantom of the Opera retake and go to Broadway. That was his best performance in my opinion! hes great!

Jessica May 22nd, 2008

I could not decide which David I wanted to win, but I do think the right guy ended up winning simply becuase he’s a little more confident on stage..and more comfortable talking in interviews. I really love both Davids and will get both of their CD’s. They both seem like very real and genuine people…and I thought it was really nice how David Cook seemed to take David Archuleta under his wing and always put his arm around him or pat his back. Shows what kind of guy he is! I’ve been watching Idol since season one and this by far was the most exciting final to watch. Oh, and Carrie Underwoods version of Praying for Time during the Idols Give Back show was sooo much better than George Michaels last night..yawn…She is definately a star and does it in a classy way. Not like Fantasia last week..what was that???

Stacy Steger May 22nd, 2008

David Cook is an amazing artist. He will go far! He was very humble and I agree, I hope he stays that way.

Melissa May 22nd, 2008

I voted for him every week!

Leslie Shea May 22nd, 2008

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! David Cook won!! I started getting tears in my eyes when his name was announced!! Of course even George Michaels vocals on Praying for Time did the same thing~ In all the interviews i have read today, David stayed as classy and humble as he had thru the show.. people are talking about how he sang versions of other peoples songs but you know, Archuletta sang his songs pretty much like the original artist did too with the exception of holding a note longer or butchering a lyric on it so what does that say? I don’t recall DC forgetting a lyric. But in time, maybe he will grow but as of right now, the best man won. Congrats Cook!! you are so loved by many.

Mary May 22nd, 2008

I am so happy David Cook won!! I can’t wait until he puts out an album. His music reminds me so much of our lady peace, and I love that. Congrats to you David, I am big fan of yours.

Linda May 22nd, 2008

Congrats David! I didn’t really watch this year’s edition, but I did catch last night’s show and while the other David is good also, I was glad that you won. You and your family should be proud. Also, your brother is a true inspiration. Best of luck to him!

Gwen Fulton May 22nd, 2008

Congrats to you David Cook! You deserved this win! I am really looking forward to following your music career and wish you all the best! Welcome to your dream come true - ten years in the making! Enjoy every second of it!

From the very beginning I had picked David Cook as my favorite guy and Carly as my favorite gal. And I am so happy that America agreed with me on David Cook’s amazing talent. He has become one of my favorite music artists by far and I will be a fan for life! It is great to finally see a rock star emerge from American Idol … that man can do it all! From Rock Anthems to Tender Ballads - David Cook stands above the rest. DC Rocks!

lin May 22nd, 2008

Both David’s are winners! Good Luck to both of them.

JS May 22nd, 2008

Why was everyone saying David C is arrogant? I’ve never seen him that way. Simon even loved his approchable personality.
I’ll be buying the album. I’ve never been a Archuleta fan, but there is no denying his last performances were great!
Congrats to both!

Deb May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations David C……so deserving of the title…great entertainer and true to himself…gracious to David A and all the idols…looking forward to their tour…

mary May 22nd, 2008

Congratulations David Cook! You are such a nice guy and very talented.Just remember to always stay true to yourself.

Gloria in Califronia May 22nd, 2008

BOTH DAVID’S ARE GREAT IN DIFFERENT WAYS I ENJOYED BOTH AND WILL BUY BOTH OF THERE CD WHEN THEY COME OUT AND I AM A BIG COUNTRY FAN. LET’S SEE IF THEY CAN TOP CARRIE UNDERWOOD IN CD SALE. I THINK THE NUMBER OF VOTES NEEDS TO BE CHANGES. YES YOU MAY HAVE VOTED FOR SOMEONE YOU LIKE HUNDREDS OF TIME BUT ARE YOU GOING TO BUY A CD THAT MANY TIMES I THINK NOT. THE VOTE SHOULD BE ONE PER SINGER AND CHANGE EACH WEEK WE ONE GETS VOTED OFF. THIS WILL GIVE A BETTER IDEA OF HOW MUCH SALE WILL COME FROM CD SALES.
I WISH BOTH DAVID’S THE BEST AND PEOPLE STOP WITH ALWAYS PUTTING SOMEONE DOWN.

JS May 22nd, 2008

Oh yeah, Waht WAS Carrie Underwood wearing last night? I like you Carrie, but you need to have more class than nearly showing your cootchie on national TV.

Cricket May 22nd, 2008

Well, I think that David A. was just as good and just as deserving of the title. I liked both Davids but I gave David A. most of my votes. however, he is young and maybe he will be a great second place finisher just as Clay Aiken, one of the greatest of all idol seasons.

Reader May 22nd, 2008

Other than karaokeing, does he have any other musical talents? At least the other folks on that stage know how to write music, play a musical instrument, had formal training.

melissa May 22nd, 2008

Jeez, “JOYZG”…. Take a CHILL PILL!

stacey May 22nd, 2008

i guess im in the minority. I voted David A. he is a true star w/ his own unique voice. david c was good but he sounds like any other rocker you hear on the radio. nothing makes him different than any other rockstar.
david a was an allstar performer and singer. either way they will both go far.

GAgirl May 22nd, 2008

I said if David Cook didn’t win that I would not watch American Idol again. I remember the night he was going to do a Michael Jackson song. I love Michael Jackson as a singer and couldn’t imagine anyone else making his song sound good but, David did. He even changed the song and made it sound great. You go David Cook!!!

Tracey May 22nd, 2008

Yeah, D.C. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sheila May 22nd, 2008

David A is terrific but he has many years to perfect himself and gain maturity. I loved Cook from the minute I saw him and I have downloaded all his studio versions from ITunes. He is adorable, humble, talented, original and I think he just may turn out to be a superstar like Carrie Underwood did. I will certainly buy all his music. Contrats David Cook! And I’m a senior, rock loving citizen.

tracey May 22nd, 2008

amy2694 May 22nd, 2008

goodness.. here come the tears again.. i have been waterworks city since last night! everything about him amazing me and touches the very bottom of my heart. he is a true “gem” in the rough. =)

Danielle May 22nd, 2008

I am so glad someone truly deserving got the title! I have been a huge fan of David Cook from the very beginning of this season. Plus he’s so down to earth and humble. He’s amazing.

Leesa May 22nd, 2008

I honestly don’t want to take away from Cook’s win, but I do have to wonder just how much Archuleta’s dad impacted the vote. Personally, I think he cost his son the win.

Amanda P. May 22nd, 2008

I Love Him!

Cristen May 22nd, 2008

Hope you make a excellent album. I’ll sure buy it. I voted for you. You did fantasic on the show. Hope you do good with you future.
I love you David Cook!

TB May 22nd, 2008

Who cares what my Name is…..You are my hero! Thanks for saying everything I felt like saying to those HATERS!!!!

CONGRATS David Cook! America finally made the right choice since Carrie Underwood!

Terry May 22nd, 2008

It was a great show. We were hoping David Cook would win. He has shown his versatility and range, for sure. What a humble and polite young man. Man, what a fabulous voice and wonderful presence.
