Cristian de La Fuente Doing Fine After Surgery

May 24, 2008

Dancing With the Stars season six finalist Cristian de la Fuente is recuperating nicely after undergoing surgery Friday morning, Dr. Neal S. Elattrache tells PEOPLE. The actor injured the tendon in his left arm while performing the samba on April 28.

“I was able to get a perfect repair of the bicep. Cristian will spend about a week in a splint, then start rehab,” Dr. Elattrache says. In three months, “He will have a full recovery and full strength back.”

“Thank you to everyone for their concern and well wishes,” de la Fuente said in a statement to PEOPLE. The 34-year-old actor, who stars in the upcoming USA Network series In Plain Sight (June 1), is recuperating at home in Los Angeles with his wife, Angelica, and daughter Laura. –Monica Rizzo

so good to know that he won’t be permanently injured! he was such a trooper staying on, and though i questioned it (for his own safety) i’m glad he’s going to be all right.

I hope your surgery goes well. It was really impresive to see someone pull himself up and do what he promised to do in pain. It is a great example to young people that anything can be done if you set your mind to it. I think you danced better after than your injury than before because you have the drive to do what needs to be done despite your pain. I was really uplifted by your performance. Good luck in the future. Dixie Prentice

I loved Christiaan from the very beginning and hoped he would win. I’m glad he made it to the finals, though. I’ll miss him and Cheryl, what a great team they made!!!!

I’m so happy to hear Christian is recovering well and that the surgery was a complete success. I agree with the poster who said he was a great example to younger people. In this day and age when it is so easy to give up on anything - marriage, school, work - it was wonderful to see someone determined to finish what he started and to persevere through what must have been terrible pain to complete the competition. I held my breath every time he hit the dance floor, hoping and praying he wouldn’t hurt himself further!

I do believe Christian was a much better dancer after the injury, and my theory is he had to work so much harder and focus and concentrate so much harder to overcome his handicap that his dancing benefitted.

I’m already missing DWTS and can’t wait until September!! Of all the seasons, I believe this one was the best because it had the largest number of really good, talented dancers which made it an even bigger joy to watch. What a great show this is - small children, teenagers, parents, and grandparents can sit together watching DWTS and all of them, from every age group, truly enjoying it. That is the stuff not good, but GREAT television is made of!!

My only complaint about DWTS is that seasons 1-5 (and now 6) have not been released on DVD! I would buy it in a heartbeat - I’d love to go back and watch all the seasons again, this show never ceases to put a big smile on my face and a little spring in my step! What gives, ABC??? Where is DWTS on DVD?!??!?!?

Totally thought he was faking. He had quite the range of motion but I’m glad I was wrong. He just got better and more daring after the injury. Wish him all the best and great pain pills.

Congratulations on your successful surgical procedure. Our family was glad to hear you are well. Your dancing on DWTS was great. Much success on your future endeavors.
