Lori Loughlin Spills New 90210 Secrets

May 26, 2008

90210 fans are dying to find out more about what to expect from the “cooler, sexier and more provocative” CW spin-off, set to debut this fall. And, Lori Loughlin, 43, who will play Debbie Mills, is talking.

“What I love about my character is she’s not just the mom that’s home parenting — she’s got a career!” Loughlin told PEOPLE recently. “She’s a photographer — she’s in the workplace. She was making a move from the Midwest to California, so it’s about her adjustment to her new lifestyle.”

And although some may call her the new Cindy Walsh (played by Carol Potter in the original), “It’s not the Walsh [family],” Loughlin says. “It’s the same premise in the fact that it is a brother and sister moving from the Midwest to California, but other than that, they’re not twins. One is my biological daughter [played by Shenae Grimes]. The other is my adopted son, who is African-American [played by Tristan Wilds]. So it’s a contemporary family. It’s fitting more of what’s happening today in families.”

But like the original show, the new family won’t be living the opulent lifestyle of some of their Beverly Hills neighbors. Explained Loughlin: “Yes, modest living. We go to live with my mother-in-law who is ailing and played by Jessica Walters, and she was supposedly a big movie star in the 1970s. But we move in with her. So, we live in Beverly Hills but we’re not like in a big mansion.”

Also like the old show, it will center on a group of high school teenagers dealing with the ups and downs of today’s world. “The spin-off is a whole new group of younger kids. They’re what teenagers are going through now in high school, and I’m the mom,” Loughlin says. “It’s going to be really good — a little more interesting — because you’ve got like the parents and their lives and Rob Estes is my husband. I’m very excited about that!”

psssst.... May 26th, 2008

I’ve got a secret too about the show….

It’s gonna fail big TIME!!

Colleen May 26th, 2008

I love how they say cooler, sexier and more provocative…. The only 90210 I want to watch would be similer to the original. The cast is ridiculous. Lori and loughlin and rob estes as the parents… whose parents look like that? Give me a break. I won’t even start on the kids. I hate it already.

I agree with Colleen. I won’t watch it….

Anyone ever watched shows on the-N? Check out South of Nowhere. Similar plot: family moves from midwest to LA, family contains mother, father, 2 biological kids (son & daughter), and an adopted African-American son. I love this show but it’s in it’s final season. Check out how similar the New 90210 might end up.

Theres nothing like the original Beverly Hills 90210! I grew up watching that show.Yeah it has its corny moments I now see when watching in re-runs. This version will fail miserably! I give it a month-maybe.

Stupid May 27th, 2008

If shows like one tree hill and gossip girl can make it I am sure this one will find an audience as well. I find myself watching these silly unrealistic shows and at the same time am thinking HOW stupid they really are! It’s harmless, brainless entertainment. Not to mention special guest appearances from the old cast would be a bonus. At the end of the day, what’s the harm in that?!

GIVE IT A CHANCE!!! YOU NEVER KNOW!!

rarely do re-makes work. It was a great show in it,s time. Think cancelled real quick.

“cooler sexier more provocative”

another teen-age wasteland show… anything out there that brings people up to higher ground, rather than dragging us down further and further (more and more provocative) with the excuse of wanting to portray things “the way they really are”?

Rene May 27th, 2008

THIS SHOW WILL NEVER MAKE IT!
