Lost Finale Ends with More Burning Questions

May 30, 2008

Lost — with its endless plot twists, secret elevators, exploding freighters, and moving islands — had its fourth-season finale last night. We learned enough about the castaways to thoroughly make our heads spin like Linda Blair possessed by the exorcist. But we’ll have to wait til Feb. 2009, when Lost returns, to find out the answers to some of last night’s big bombshells and burning questions. The highlights: –- Nicholas White

• What would the movable island look like? Lost’s special effects team went into overdrive to suck the entire island into the sea, prompted by Ben (Michael Emerson), operating an apparent time-travel mechanism. Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Locke (Terry O’Quinn) and others disappeared with the island. What happened to them? What role will time travel (in addition to flashbacks and flash-forwards) play in season five?

• The man in the coffin (foreshadowed last season) is … dead Locke, who looks embalmed and somewhat rubbery. Or, we mean Jeremy Bentham, his apparent new alias. When Ben meets Jack (Matthew Fox) over the coffin, Ben says they all need to return to the island together … including the dead Locke/Bentham. But how did Locke get off the island?
• Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Michael Dawson (Harold Perrineau) appear to die at the hands of Ben, when Ben kills his daughter’s murderer. Ben knows the consequences of his actions, but it doesn’t matter. The freighter that Jin and Dawson are on explodes, potentially explaining why Jin didn’t make it off the island with the Oceanic Six. Is Jin dead, or did he escape the ship alive?
• The long-awaited reunion of Penny (Sonya Walger) and Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) finally happens.
• Is Claire (Emilie de Ravin) dead or alive? She pops up here and there (Kate’s dreams, for example), but she’s creeping up us out as much as Dr. Christian (John Terry). What is Claire’s deal?

what a joke of a show May 30th, 2008

the show is a joke…. it’s gonna be a dream - one of the cast members is dreaming this all up while laid up in a coma from a plane crash - being the only surivor of this plane crash… of course all the people in the dream are people he was one the plane with BUT they did not survive!!! IT’S A DREAM!!

Lost in TX May 30th, 2008

There’s no way the producers of this show would make it a dream. They would never retread on an idea that was done 20 or so years ago on Dallas. I love the way this show is so complex, and really makes you think. I can’t wait until next February!

BEST episode of LOST ever!!

anonymous May 30th, 2008

this was one of the best LOST episodes ever and had enough meat to it to keep fans goin till 09. man! i hate the wait! as i was watching i was thinking they’ve covered a lot of waht ppl were wondering and while an answer like locke in the coffin came it created a whole new bunch of questions. which is why we love this show!! to what a joke, why get all up about a show you obviously don’t like? it shouldn’t matter to you at all.

Pam May 30th, 2008

I thought it was great - I will await for the next season - I am hopeful Michael and Jin are alive.

yes, they will make it a dream. everything old is new again - as the saying goes…. they can’t come up with a better story line…

ashlee May 30th, 2008

i enjoyed the episode, i kind of figured it was locke in the coffin, but there were so many questions that arose, definitely going to ponder them until feb. As far as whether michael and jin are alive, I think Jin is, but the actor who plays Michael already confirmed that Michael died on the freightor.

Anna May 30th, 2008

It was awesom. Can’t wait till next Feb. Why did Jack still refuse to believe the island moved, even after he seen it disappear?

DR May 30th, 2008

The person saying this is all a dream - he doesn’t have the mental capacity to figure out all the questions of LOST so he goes with the easiest answer. This is the best show ever written. There is a turn at every corner and we will not know what exactly is happening until the very end

Yolanda May 30th, 2008

The best drama on television!! Thanks for letting me know the wait will be longer than I thought. I assumed the show was coming back in January. DAMN!!
