David Archuleta Gets a Record Deal

June 5, 2008

So what if he didn’t win American Idol! David Archuleta has inked a record deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, the same label winner David Cook is signed to.

“Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true,” Archuleta said in a statement. “I’m really excited to start working on everything.”

The 17-year-old Utah native already has three songs on the Hot 100 chart, including his memorable rendition of “Imagine” and “In This Moment,” the song he performed at the Idol finale.

Simon Fuller, the mastermind behind Idol and the chief executive of 19 Entertainment Label Group, called Archuleta a “genuine pop star” and said he “has a great future ahead of him.”

Still, Archuleta remains humble and cautious, telling PEOPLE last month that “school is really important, especially after all this ends. It would be nice to make a living off of it but you never know.”

Fans of Archie, as Cook affectionately calls him, should expect his debut album later this year. Up first: The Idols Live Tour, which starts July 1 in Arizona. –Shari Weiss

Good for you David Archuleta but this really comes as no surprise as AI runner-ups traditionally get a record deal. I really hope your first album does well and all the best to you.

Wow big surprise another lost little puppy looking for a treat. He was so boring on the show, every song and performance was just like the one before it. I still can’t believe Carly was voted out so early, she should have been runner up. I love David Cook, he is the perfect AI!

Samantha June 5th, 2008

Good for him but unless he get’s some “coaching” his fifteen minutes of fame will be over before to long. I think he has a lot to learn and with the right teacher can do good but he’s young and shouldn’t ahve gotten a record deal until he worked on a few things and got a little older. I wish him all the best. I do see some talent in him but I don’t see it coming out on this album.
