David Archuleta’s Dad Will Join Him on Idol Tour

June 20, 2008

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta, 17, will have close supervision as he hits the road for the summer’s American Idols Live! Tour. His father Jeff, who had his backstage privileges revoked in the final weeks of Idol, will be on the tour bus with his son and the other top five guys (Michael Johns, David Cook, Chikezie and Jason Castro).

“I forgot about that,” David laughed coyly to PEOPLE when fellow Idol Carly Smithson asked Michael Johns if anyone on the guy’s bus snores. “Just your dad,” quipped Johns at the L.A. press day for the Pop Tarts presents American Idol Live! Tour 2008, which kicks off in Brooke White’s hometown of Glendale, Ariz., on July 1.

“We don’t have dancers on the tour so we are utilizing Jeff Archuleta as our break dancer at the end,” Smithson joked. “He came in with his hat all bent and this big T-shirt on and he looked all like street kid!”

But David also explained that his parents will mostly likely switch off when and where they can. “I think they’re going to trade when we go to Utah,” he said. “If she has time, you know it’s all a matter of how things work out, because she has the other four kids to look after, and they all want her.”

There will be two buses on the tour, one for the men and one for the women. “It’ll be quite the experience,” said a slightly apprehensive Archuleta.

Added Smithson, whose husband will be back in San Diego during the 3-month tour, “It’s important to keep your family as normal as possible, especially for [David].” –Jed Dreben

hm. that should definitely be interesting. haha.

keosha June 20th, 2008

So wat! who the f*** cares!??????????????

Caro June 20th, 2008

Really? 17??? I think he’s almost a big boy now. Let the poor kid live a little! I can see going on the tour with him, but riding on the bus? GEEZ!

soundscene June 20th, 2008

It’s all good. The thing is, despite what the press has said about his Dad (it’s all rumor and speculation, by the way, even the “banning” story, which was blown completely out of proportion), the other Idols have said nothing but nice things about Jeff Archuleta. They like him. If they had a problem with David’s Dad, they just wouldn’t say anything at all. I highly doubt there will be any problems other than normal “roommate troubles” that any 6 people would have being on a bus together for 3 months.

Caro–it’s required by law for a parent to stay with him–which means on the bus with him, or he rides separately with a parent (and I doubt they would pay for a separate ride). The only other solution would be for another Idol to take over temporary guardianship, which I believe happened last year with Jordin and Melinda.

Andy June 20th, 2008

People should realize that since David is only 17 he has to have a guardian/parent with him. It is not about his dad, it is about the law

so I can care less…….just think they could have used this spot for something far, far, far more importaint. don’t care a bout David, don’t give a dam if his father, mother, sister or brother will join him on tour.

ron June 20th, 2008

Give the poor guy a break! He has to be there because David is 17!!! He must have a parent there.

Jenna June 20th, 2008

Oh, that’s going to be so much fun for all of the other guys who’ll have to share living quarters with dadchuleta.
Eeeeeeeeeeek!

pharmgirl49 June 20th, 2008

YAWN I agree who cares
