Blake Lewis on Getting Dropped From Label: ‘No Biggy’

June 26, 2008

After getting dropped from Arista Records, American Idol season six runner-up Blake Lewis says it’s not a big deal.

“Ring, ring, ring went the phone. Iain my manager baring the news. Arista isn’t picking up the second option,” writes Lewis on his MySpace blog. “Meaning, I’m not doing another record with them. I’m totally fine with this.”

Though he was a fan favorite on the show, the move comes after disappointing sales — roughly 300,000 copies sold — since Lewis released the album Audio Day Dream last Christmas.

“I guess the right time was now,” he writes. “No biggy.”

He is, at least, in good company. Past Idol winners Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard, and fellow runner-up Katherine McPhee, also lost their deals with Arista Records.

Next order of business? A tour, an album and a new label. “I’m still with 19 Recordings and I got a tour and new record on the way,” Lewis writes. As for the label, it’s “got to be a place where they actually respect my craft and electronic music.” –Danielle Anderson

i think they need to stop american idol.
its so annoying!
the people are popular for about a week and then they are never heard from again!

CATHY S June 26th, 2008

Hey there Bob. Do you even watch AI? Have you ever heard of Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Kelly Clarkson just to name a few past idol alumni still going strong! Not everyone is going to make it at first but if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Good luck Blake!!!

jo June 26th, 2008

Yeah, because no one has ever heard of Carrie Underwood or Kelly clarkson or Daughtry or Clay Aiken…hmmmm

I believe this program brings out the worst in people. The judges are cruel,I know ratings are the big thing, but this world is ugly enough.

I was a fan of Blake’s on the show and when his album came out I bought it- and love it. Probably a case of being poorly managed, (low sales) maybe not promoted properly, because the talent is definitely there. Hang in there Blake and keep on keeping on- I will buy your next album, too.

if i was him i wouldn’t say thaat it’s no biggy. being droped by your only label is a biggy.

amy2694 June 26th, 2008

Sharon..? Brings out the worst in people?? No, not so much. This show is VERY positive. Um, ever hear of that little ditty called IDOL GIVES BACK? And you look at someone like David Cook who just won the title, and he is an incredible human being who is going to bring happiness to millions with his music. SO, call me crazy, but I can quite grasp your unfounded theory.

pammie June 26th, 2008

Good luck, Blake, you’re going to need it. Recommend you try and show some respect, that’s the only way anyone will respect you. In every interview you’ve done, you never seem to be grateful for what you have…you didn’t get to where you are by yourself, grow up!

melissa June 26th, 2008

I liked Blake on his season of American Idol….Alot of singers get dropped by their label. He has alot of talent so don’t worry Blake someone will pick you up!!!

WTF??? June 26th, 2008
