One of So You Think You Can Dance’s top 10 contestants, Jessica King, has dropped out of the competition after suffering an injury, producer Nigel Lythgoe told reporters at the FOX Television Critics Association event in Los Angeles Monday.
Lythgoe says Comfort Fedoke, who was eliminated on the results show July 10, will rejoin the cast.
“I would like to say how sorry I am that Jessica cannot continue dancing in the competition at the advice of her doctor,” Lythgoe said in a statement released by FOX. “Her full recovery is paramount and will only come with rest.”
While Lythgoe wouldn’t discuss the injury with reporters, “We will say [what happened] on the show this week,” he said. “Her doctor says she needs between four to five weeks to rest.”
Comfort, meanwhile, is being given a second chance to prove she deserves a spot in the finale. “Comfort has agreed to rejoin the competition and know that under the circumstances she has Jessica’s full support,” Lythgoe said.
“It’s difficult to come back once you get eliminated from the show,” he explained to reporters. “She sat with Jessica and said ‘I’m so unhappy that you’re indisposed, but I thank God for the opportunity of coming back.’” – Monica Rizzo
