And I don't hate her; I think she is in a precarious situation. I just hated it when she so blithely babbled that Tom and Nicole's kids call her "Mom" (at which point they began calling Nicole "Nicole"), as if this was a positive for them and considerate treatment for the mother who adopted--and loves--them. I have to wonder if, should she at some future moment become TCruise's third ex-wife and he were to find TC-wife-number-four, how she'd take the news that Suri called the new TC wife "Mom" and called Katie "Katie"--you know, "the golden rule" test. JA remarked a oouple of years ago that BP was missing a "sensitivity gene"; KH appears to have similar chromosomal damage. My children were immensely fortunate in their late stepmother: she was very, very close to them but always made it clear that I was their mother. I made up my mind early on that the more people who love my kids the better, and she made it easy to maintain that conviction. Her death from cancer was mourned by an enormous group of family, friends, and colleagues, and I grieved the loss of her nearly as much as my children and former husband.
