Kate Walsh Talks About Addison’s New Love Life

July 21, 2008

Private Practice star Kate Walsh promises that despite the show’s freshman season being cut short by the writers’ strike, the medical drama will be juicier than ever when it returns this fall. And more fun for Addison Montgomery, who is settled into her new digs and ready to explore a love life outside the workplace.

“You’ll see Addison dating,” she recently told PEOPLE. “There’s a lot of conflict and still that kind of mad and sick balance of comedy and drama that [series creator] Shonda [Rhimes] is such an expert at delivering.”

Walsh said her pairing with new love interest David Sutcliffe, seen briefly in the first season as a SWAT officer, is “so fun.”

“Addison around Officer Nelson, the SWAT guy, is so different than what comes out around Pete (Tim Daly) or [Grey's Anatomy's] Derek (Patrick Dempsey) or Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) or anyone else that you’ve seen,” she said. “It’s really fun to see this total other side of her come out that we never saw. It hit me, this little epiphany of like, ‘Oh, we’ve never seen Addison into someone or someone that likes her back.’”

Walsh revealed that Addison is also stronger and more centered after finally adjusting to her life after relocating to Santa Monica. “Initially in those first nine episodes she’s still getting her footing, still isn’t quite sure and a little wobbly, and then you see that she’s got her groove back.”

While the rest of her cast and crew took an extended break after the strike, Walsh was back in character as Addison on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy when she made a return trip to the show last spring. “It was a little disorienting, but it was also fun,” she said of the homecoming, which she called a case of “art imitating life.”

And to whether or not one of Addison’s former colleagues at Seattle Grace will ever visit her in sunny Santa Monica, Walsh says, “Why not? That would be a fun idea.” – Scott Huver

Thank you for the article. OMG, I am so happy Addison gets to finally have some fun and some romance. Kate is fabulous. I cant wait for Private Practice.

This sounds promising. I really hope the ladies at Oceanside can just have fun next season! That’s the one aspect of the show that needs to change…the ladies are intelligent, healthy accomplished doctors, but they were always on the verge of hysterics about their love lives. I kept waiting for the episode where they would all go out and make their own good fortune but it never happened. I’m really excited for the show now.

All sounds good :) And I can’t wait to see Addie & HotCop! dating. Hurry up October 1st.

Alias July 21st, 2008

It’s so obvious that this cop is just a plot device for Addison and Pete. Why Shonda wastes the time for some contrived plot that will end sooner or later, instead of focusing more on the main characters development. He will be gone after 11 episodes and then we still will know almost nothing about most of the pivotal characters. Shonda could make Addison and Pete dating and romancing and having fun already, if that’s their destination anyway.

PEOPLE IS NOW BECOMING A DISGRACE TO THE TABLOID WORLD…
I CANT BELIEVE THE WEBSITE I LOVED HAS POSTED SUCH A DEGRADING VIDEO OF THE INDIAN CULTURE JUST BECAOUSE NATALITE PORTMAN IS IN IT…
I REQUEST IT BE REMOVED IMEADIETLY!
YOU ARE LOSING WEBSITE VIEWERS…

Anthony July 22nd, 2008

I just have to comment on one thing that AJ wrote about the Natalie Portman video- there are alot of things in this world that I don’t like either but I would never tell someone not to do it or take the video off the web. I am an Indian as well comng from India and the point I am trying to make is that if you don’t like the video or find if offensive then don’t watch it. You can’t tell People Magazine to take it off because you don’t like it. Here in America we have something called the Constitution (don’t know if you ever heard of it) but the first rule is freedom of speech. So, ou don;t like soemthing then simply don’t watch it- you have no right to tell somoene how to do their creative work whether it is offensive or not. Thank you so much!|

ROCK ON ANTHONY!
ANYWAY! CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SHOW TO BE BACK ON THE AIR!!!!!!

JR July 22nd, 2008

Can’t wait for the Addie / HotCop! action.

I disagree Alias - we know Pete isn’t ready for a relationship. Better for him & Addie to become really good friends before jumping into bed together. The lead-up to a relationship is the best thing.

Greys ruined the Mer/Der relationship from the beginning by starting it on a one-night stand between 2 people who didn’t even know each other’s name. Some romance lol. Who cares if they got together again after that ?

I think HotCop will be good for Addie, although the fact he is a SWAT officer rings bells. But then this is a Shondra Rhimes show, so who expected anything different !!

Sambo July 22nd, 2008

Im so happy to hear about this show! Ive been waiting for news about it and what will happen with Addison. She better get someone good and good for her! I cant wait until it starts!
