With only two weeks left until the finale, it was down to eight dancers struggling to learn increasingly difficult choreography–and do so with new partners–on last night’s So You Think You Can Dance.
Will Wingfield and Courtney Galiano kicked things off with a hip-shaking samba. Initially, Will had reservations going into the dance (can he really shake his hips?) but all eyes were on Courtney, who came on stage in one of her trademark barely-there dresses. Noting their strong chemistry, Nigel called their routine “fantastic.”
Next, Stephen ‘Twitch’ Boss, who danced with Comfort Fedoke last week, jumped for joy when he learned that he would be paired with show favorite, Katee Shean. The pals turned up the heat with a dangerously sexy contemporary piece choreographed by Mia Michaels. And despite Shean’s rather questionable beehive hairdo, the two brought their A-game. They earned a second “fantastic” of the night from Nigel, while Mary went all out, praising the pair as the “two of the best dancers we’ve seen on this show!”
Comfort Fedoke, who survived the first cut of the Top 10 last week, paired up with Mark Kanemura this week. Their hip-hop number received mixed reviews and their jazzy fox trot fared even worse. Hmmm, Comfort and Mark, who were both in last week’s bottom two, might find themselves there again.
Joshua Allen, who has already danced with both Katee and Courtney, managed to keep that lucky streak going forward with new partner Chelsie Hightower. For their first dance together, the two took on a nostalgic Argentine tango that put Joshua’s backside on display. Nigel jokingly pointed out that he definitely “has the biggest bum in the competition.” Coming out of their sizzling tango, the duo ended the night with a feverish disco routine that proved to be just what Dr. Feelgood ordered. (Watch the clip.) The judges, who aren’t usually fans of disco, were unanimously pleased. Nigel said it best, calling it “a great finale to a wonderful show!” –Jed Dreben
