Dancing with the Stars Duo Robbed

August 18, 2008

Dancing with the Stars pros Mark Ballas and Derek Hough paid a high price for being charitable — they got robbed.

The duo were in Roseville, Minn., Sunday to perform with their band, Almost Amy, at a cancer charity later that night when their rented passenger van was robbed in the parking lot of an Outback Steakhouse eatery.

“It happened at about 4 in the afternoon,” Almost Amy’s manager Daniel Catullo tells PEOPLE. “It was all of their personal belongings — iPods, laptop computers, cameras, passports, wallets.”

The band made a plea on their MySpace page early this morning, offering a $5,000 reward for the return of their personal items.

Ballas and Hough were traveling in the van with three of their band mates. A second van carrying their guitars and performing gear was untouched. The group decided to stop for a late lunch before performing at PapaPalooza, a cancer charity event held at the Deer Creek Speedway near Minneapolis.

“It was a nice area, a nice part of town,” says Catullo, noting that Ballas’s Dancing partner, Kristi Yamaguchi, and her husband, NHL star Bret Hedican, joined them for the late lunch. “It was definitely a pro job. The locks were drilled out and the van was cleaned out of all of its contents.”

“They don’t care about prosecuting anybody, they just would like their personal belongings back,” Catullo says. “Whoever did this, they can email the band’s website and drop the items somewhere and we’ll pick them up, no questions asked. We don’t care about the iPods or other items that can be replaced. It’s the personal items and the laptops they would really like back.” – Monica Rizzo

Michelle August 18th, 2008

OMG! Just goes to show no one is safe!

erin August 18th, 2008

Yeah, I can’t believe that they were robbed, and you can go to their personal myspaces as well since Derek is getting some on his personal myspace as well, but I won’t post it for privacy reasons. I hope they get their stuff back soon and I’m glad they won’t press charges. Although if they don’t get it back in the week, they will have to get the lawyers involved to get them back.

Trunuyawkr August 18th, 2008

I feel horrible for them…….. I really do. But why were their passports (and more importantly) their wallets left in the car???? Maybe I’m just paranoid having grown up in NY, but I can’t imagine leaving my wallet in the car, even if the car is parked in my driveway……..

Jonathan Bodack August 18th, 2008

It’s a shame that Mark Ballas and Derek Hough were robbed of their personal belongings, I hope they’re returned, etc.?

Andrea August 18th, 2008

That’s so not a bad area at all! That really sucks - I don’t watch DWTS, but seriously that’s my hood and I feel really bad for the guys. MN is a nice place and Roseville is not at all known for crime. Sorry guys!

Alichat August 18th, 2008

While I feel bad for them, I’m with Trunuyawkr. And, no you’re not paranoid. I’m from NC, and I’d never leave my wallet and passport in the car either. And the only time I’ve left my laptop in the car was when it was in the trunk, unseen. If someone can look in the window and see the contents of your vehicle, then don’t leave your valuables in there. I hope they get them back, but I’m not holding out hope they will.

wow ,I can’t understand why someone wouldn’t want to work and earn things the right way. people really do suck now a days.

Holly August 18th, 2008

People are idiots. Or were desperate for money. Or are some crazed fans.

I hope these people return their stuff. The pictures Marky had are irreplaceable…especially since i bet tehre was some personal stuff of him and Sabrina Bryan on there.
