Mario Lopez to Host New MTV Music Competition

August 25, 2008

American Idol may have a new judge, but MTV has its own secret weapon: PEOPLE’s Hottest Bachelor Mario Lopez, who will helm the cable network’s new music competition show.

Lopez, who also hosts MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, will host a new reality series called Top Pop Group, which will feature nine unsigned music groups to compete for a $100,000 grand prize.

Celebrity coaches will mentor the pop groups, advising them on style, sound and dance moves, while a panel of celebrity judges (whose names have yet-to-be-announced) will give the groups feedback on their performances. Viewers at home will vote for their favorites and name the official “Top Pop Group” each week, narrowing the field to a winner.

Marianela Pereyra, a reporter for Access Hollywood and a celebrity commenter on CNN’s Showbiz Tonight, will share hosting duties with Lopez.

Lopez will host a casting special Aug. 28 on MTV at 9 p.m., which will viewers will get a sneak peek at the Top Pop Group audition before the series’ premiere Sept. 11 at 10 p.m. –Jessica Gold Haralson

I hope he isn’t spreading himself too thin. I am excited that he is keeping busy and that his career is on a high note. I wish him all the best and will be praying for him.

Trust me - this is NOT sour grapes… but an honest observation.

Mario Lopez is becoming the male version of Paris HIlton. Lots of exposure and publicity… for very little real talent beyond being “eye candy”.

Add his oft- reported womanizing ways.. including his incredibly stupid dumping of the gorgeous Ali Landry… and, the message becomes loud and clear.

Mario Lopez is Hollywood’s future Scott Baio.

MY MY MY Why don’t you really say how you feel…
Don’t Hate… Sounds to me like some people are jealous…………………… Because he’s so
fine…………..He wouldn’t have gotten America’s sexiest bacholer if he wasn’t.

Oh no! He’s going to be on ANOTHER show?! He was SO annoying on ABDC! I could hardly stand to watch that show because he is such a flake! I won’t be tuning in to his new show! UGH! How about some real talent and some realy eye candy like Channing Tatum?!

Another show I won’t be watching mario is so annoying!!!!

Tom Styles August 26th, 2008

No one said Lopez wasn’t “fine”… or handsome.

Precisely my point - he’s nothing more than “eye candy” to some females… and some gay men as well i imagine.

but as A TV HOST ?…. he brings NOTHING to the table in the realm of talent except for his dimples.

Again… he is the male Paris Hilton of today…. and the Scott Baio of tomorrow.

I had the opportunity to perform in a show with Mario Lopez, and he is the most egotistical actor I’ve ever met. He is so high on himself. He was late for his call to the show, he was dressed inappropriately (it was a formal show, and he was in pants and a white t-shirt), and he was texting on stage during the performance. It was so insanely unprofessional. I was excited to perform with him, but I’ve never been more disappointed by a “star.” Yuck.
