Paula Abdul ‘Thrilled’ About Fourth American Idol Judge

August 26, 2008

Paula Abdul is “thrilled” that old friend Kara DioGuardi is joining her as the fourth judge on American Idol.

“It’s about time another girl joined,” Abdul told PEOPLE Monday at the U.S. Open opening night celebration in Flushing, N.Y. “More girl power.”

Abdul, 46, who has been an Idol judge for the past seven seasons, says DioGuardi’s songwriter and producer experience will bring a different mix to the table. “She’s going to be a little more different and more from the industry standpoint.”

This isn’t the first time the pop singer has worked with DioGuardi. The two wrote a song for Kylie Minogue called “Spinning Around.”

Despite initial reports of a dustup after Abdul told a Phoeniz, Ariz., radio station Monday, “I am concerned about the audience and their acceptance … time will tell,” both Abdul and DioGuardi say there are no hard feelings.

“Anybody with the right brain would say something like that,” DioGuardi told reporters yesterday.

But will adding another female judge take the spotlight away from Abdul? “No,” says the singer. “This is great for the show. I’ve been waiting for this. I really have and people will love her. She’s great!” –Jeffrey Slonim and Paul Chi, with additional reporting by Monica Rizzo

It’s great that Paula Abdul is thrilled about the fourth A.I. Judge, even though she was worried about it at first, etc.

Bye Paula, should have kicked the habit along time ago, now they are going to kick you off of the show, so be ready! I’m going to miss your crazy antics!

Dianne August 26th, 2008

Sure - I don’t believe that for a second. Plus, I think if you get too many (as in 4) judges, it becomes a shouting match. One person trying to yell over 3 others. Too many people voicing their opinions and you can’t hear anybody. Something like “The View.” I do hope it works out because I love American Idol.

Why another judge? I think things are fine just the way they are. Audiences love the dynamic between the current three…why change a good thing? Not to mention, they helped us discover DAVID COOK!

SARA August 26th, 2008

I think they are grooming Kara to replace Paula someday. It is obvious Paula has either a medical issue, or a drug-related issue going on. It is not fair to the contestants or the American public to have to put up with Paula’s antics much longer if she isn’t going to take care of herself.

Paula’s obviously has something wrong. Perhaps prescription pill abuse. That judge is there to push paula out the door.
The backstage cat fights will be too much for paula to take.

oh please tell me you are going to get rid of paula. my god she claps like she is retarded and talks like she is high or drunk. who cares what she has to say. she is a puke and you all know it. i said i was not watching the show anymore if you don’t get rid of her. i will see if the new gal has some class. read all the messages about paula why do you ignor them? it is the public that keeps the show on the air not an air head like paula.

kamika August 26th, 2008

You all are haters! Paula is great and the best judge on there, it’s all about ratings, and she sure does get them. She is very talented and if she goes, here is one idol fan that has stuck by this show from the beginning, and will stop watching.. You all are jealous because she is more talented and prettier than you! Get a life!

Rachel August 26th, 2008

Does anyone in Hollywood ever tell the truth?! Paula’s about as thrilled as Ashely Simpson wasn’t pregnant, Lindsey Lohan isn’t gay, and Madonna’s blissfully married. It gets downright insulting after awhile!!

TJ August 26th, 2008

I’m sure Paula has some fans out there and I must admit that sometimes she is a little funny. But let’s get serious. Paula has no real value on that show other than to spark debate over her issues (drugs vs. insanity) and to annoy Simon and the majority of the general public with her ridiculous and incoherant rantings. She is like your lovable old dog that you know you need to put down but feel too guilty to actually do it. Enter the new puppy (Kara DioGuardi) to entertain the kids and aide in the transition of saying goodbye to Old Yeller.
